I live with my husband in Mazamet where we work looking after the gite and making paintings and sculpture, which we show in the Atelier in our home. Gite Wisteria is next to our home, so we are usually around to help you settle in and answer any queries you may have during your stay.

We both love walking in the local mountains and swimming in the lakes and will be delighted to show you some of our favourite haunts.

We also love our gardens where we grow lots of herbs and flowers, and a few veggies (they seem to do very well here!). The gite garden has plenty of herbs for your own use on the evenings you fancy cooking at home.

Why they chose this property

We moved to this area of the south of France as it is one of the most beautiful regions we know! The scenery here is very dramatic with the mountains and beautiful valleys. There is so much history still visible – from the tiny mountain hamlets to the Cathar castles and medieval towns and cities.
We are in the Montagne Noire National Park, a range of mountains, peaking at 4,000 feet, with forests of oak and chestnut, lakes and highland meadows full of wild flowers. The air is very clean. We chose Mazamet as we love its wide tree-lined streets, its proximity to the mountains and because it is a small and vibrant working town with excellent facilities such as 4 farmers’ markets a week, a theatre, cinema, galleries, museums and good sports facilities.

What makes this property unique

The situation of the gite is very special as it is in a walled garden just a 5 minute walk away from shops, the markets, cafes and restaurants.
Each room of the gite has south facing double French windows opening onto its own garden which leads to a lockable private street gate and adjacent parking.
It is very convenient that after a lovely day out, you can come home to the calm of the cottage and garden, wash and change and then walk a short way for a drink or delicious meal.
If you do want to cook your own food, we can highly recommend the local markets for the freshest ingredients and have ensured that the gite kitchen has all the cooking equipment you might need. The gite garden is a delightful place to eat your meal in the evening sun relaxing with a glass of good local wine.
