About this property

The Old Stables Buxton - Gateway to the Peak District

The Old Stables is centrally located, minutes from Buxton's Pavilion Gardens, Opera House, Poole's Cavern, and town centre. It's characterful, ideal for families and large friend groups. Being in the Peak District, enjoy doorstep walks and cycle rides, or brave Go Ape! Plus explore places from Alton Towers to Chatsworth House—something for everyone!
It's a great space for groups - whether that's a walking group, two families holidaying together, or a family going away with grandparents. There are two sitting areas, plus 3 bathrooms (two upstairs with bath/shower as well as a wet room downstairs).
The kitchen, second sitting room and dining area are unique - the property makes use of the old horse stalls! It's lots of fun!
There's no garden, but there is a cute terrace (with table and chairs), plus the Pavilion Gardens is just a few minutes' walk away - with playground, miniature train and plenty of room for scooters! Not to mention cafes, icecreams and feeding ducks!

Excellently located accommodation
This property has character and is very close to the centre of Buxton. There are plenty of pubs in walking distance as well as take-out and a Sainsbury's local. We were a party of eight adults and it worked well. Everything was serviceable and good value for the price. Instructions were clear and Sue was attentive, making sure we had received all the information we needed. We had two cars and one fitted in the garage, which is suitable for a smaller car. There was parking available in adjoining streets.

Historic, interesting and an excellent base for walking.
8 old friends went walking in the peaks and the Old Stables provided us with a perfect base. Room to relax, cook and eat and comfortable and well equipped bedrooms. Sue's communication throughout was excellent and all the information we needed was provided on site. The large kitchen lounge dining room meant we could all be together throughout any cooking, eating, washing up and rugby watching and the second lounge was perfect for some privacy and calls home to the kids. A great venue that I would thoroughly recommend.

Great location
The property is well located, we only used the car to drive to Chatsworth which is less than 30 minutes away. Even better than it looks in the pictures and very well equipped. We did not cook but there was plenty of crockery and equipment to do so if you had wanted to. The property was warm and cosy and each room was well sound proofed so we all slept well. Good showers and plenty of toilet paper! Always useful when 6 ladies are staying together. Two sitting areas inside if wished. We had a lovely stay, thank you.

Great Property
This house was great for our family & a few friends to stay. Great space, the kitchen had everything you needed which was brilliant. The dining area was really quirky and big enough for everyone. Sue & Janine were great at returning a bluetooth speaker that my husband had left hanging up, they couldn't have been more helpful. Would 100% reccommend this property.

Twenty years ago we came to live in the USA. For visiting family and children in UK we acquired the Old Stables in Buxton. Its location and amenities are perfect. Now we are retired we visit as often as we can and enjoy this beautiful part of England .We are glad to share our holiday home for others to enjoy the Peak District

Why they chose this property

When visiting family we found The Old Stables a great place for us to stay. Once the Duke of Devonshire's city stables, the place has given us a quirky yet spacious home and being on an adopted road parking is good and there are no cars rushing by. The property is just off the Market Square in this old spa town, so it is close to everything Buxton has to offer. The Opera House, The Pavilion Gardens, swimming pool, shops
and tea rooms, great restaurants, pubs with good food and takeaways. Pool Caverns, Go Ape, Solomon's Temple all within easy walking distance and a little further afield Chatsworth House and Alton Towers. We love the property because once you get to Buxton there is little need to get back in the car until you leave.

What makes this property unique

We love staying at The Old stables because there is so much to do for every age within walking distance. The park with its obligingly greedy ducks are a great hit with little people. The Opera House has great shows, the antique shops are fascinating and the surrounding hills of the Peak District are wonderful year round for walking but especialy at Easter time with the skipping lambs and at the end of the day the dining out is excellent and just a quick walk home .
