A nice house on the edge of Appledore. A good size for 4 of us and two small dogs. Lovely enclosed garden but we had unannounced visits from a window cleaner and chap to mow the lawn.Easy walking distance to both the village and country park. Great views from the top floor. We enjoyed our stay and would return.
We really enjoyed our stay here.It was very clean, modern and beautifully presented. A convenient to walk into the village. The host had excellent communication throughout and wanted to be as helpful as he could. There were kind touches such as milk in the fridge when we arrived. The weather did not favour us and our host made sure heating was on.It soon warmed up. He was also very accommodating when it came to slight adjustments in our arrival time. Parking is tight but that is true all around. Overall fantastic and we would recommend a stay here.
Beautiful views, great location, just a short walk to great pubs, ferry snd shops. Ideal property for dogs with a secure garden. Maurice made sure our stay was perfect.
Lovely property. Well equipped for all our needs.
The cottage is handy for all the local amenities and exploring the coastal path.
Wonderful views and so peaceful. Made us feel really relaxed during our stay.
Good communication and friendly owners of the property.
Perfect for a family with two or three children. The top floor is fantastically beautiful. Very friendly communication with the exceptionally helpful host.
We were just using the house as a base to visit a relative in Kenwith Castle Care Home. The house was lovely, views were beautiful, as described. Parking out the front was limited but the rear parking is good for 2 cars. Maurice could not have been more helpful or accommodating to us and our reason for visiting. Thank you we had a lovely time.
Recently stayed for a long weekend
We were offered early check in which was appreciated
Beautifully appointed house, with everything we needed
Stunning views , across water towards Instow. Lovely secure back garden , safe for our dogs and great to have own parking
Special welcome of fizz, biscuits, milk and dog treats too
Thanks for a great stay
The house was gorgeous. The views from the two back bedrooms were amazing. No complaints about anything in the property. Easily walkable to all the local amenities. And not one but two parking spaces. Definitely plan on going back!
What a Gem of a property, the location was perfect, everything was spotless, the decor is gorgeous, comfy lounge seating, comfy beds, free wifi nothing to complain about at all. Will definately recommend it to family and friends. Will miss the sea views, thank you Maurice and Lisa we had a wonderful time in your property.

Dear Anne and guests.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us and for your feedback. I will pass this onto our cleaning team who work tirelessly in the background to ensure the property is spotless upon guest arrival.
We really appreciate your recommendation to friends and family as a lot of our bookings are upon recommendation. We would be delighted to welcome you again.
Best wishes

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property - it was very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
It is an easy walk to some great pubs (5-10 mins) and the Quay in Appledore. A a couple of minutes to the waters edge and coastal walks are on the doorstep.
We comfortably accommodated a family of four, a grandparent and a dog!
Stunning views to the rear and really convenient to have a designated parking space.
Maurice was friendly, helpful and flexible - he responded very quickly with his communications.
Thank you for a lovely stay, we would certainly recommend.
Lovely week at Dartonia Cottage Maurice is a great host, good communication and information. The property is exactly as described, well equipped, and very quiet. Handy to have the parking spaces at the rear - the access is quite narrow but we had cracked it after a couple of days. Easy walk from the property in to the centre of Appledore, the other way to Northam Burrow nature reserve and down to the life boat station where it is possible to swim off the slipway.. Don't miss the local Brass Band playing on the front on a Monday.
Lovely clean cottage, everything you need, with the most stunning views. Beautiful location. Lovely nearby beaches. Quaint little seaside town. Lovely walks. Dogs enjoyed it all. Great communication with owner. Dishwasher was broken and was unable to be looked at until after we left. We didn’t mind doing our washing up but the owner kindly offered us a complimentary extra night. Which we took. Excellent holiday. Will be back.
Dartonia Cottage was beautifully clean throughout and the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were well decorated. Maurice was very good and kept in touch and answered Emails and calls promptly. However, I didn't think the decking area or garden were as described. The decking needed a good clean as did the furniture and the garden needed to be kept tidier.
I stayed with my grown up children and their partners and 3 year old grandson. Initially disappointed as description of cottage inaccurate as it is a modern terraced house. However, upon entry discovered that it was spacious and very well appointed with top grade furnishings and fittings. The views from the upstairs rooms were stunning and complemented by luxury touches evoking seaside atmosphere. Overall impression that of great attention to details and little treats and complementary bottle of wine completed the welcome. Would definately stay again.
Appledore is a wonderful place! Little traffic as it is a "dead end"so no through traffic. People are very friendly and there is loads of community activity with Gig teams, music festivals and plenty of classic pubs to choose from. Our host, Maurice, was instantly very helpful when we had any queries, but particularly in retrieving an errant walking stick which one of our number left behind in the property! Overall... outstanding. Thank You.
Maurice is a great communicator at all times. He made sure we had a smooth check-in and check-out and when we arrived he has left us a file with WiFi password, lost of restaurants and his review of these places, places to visit etc. Everyone was clean, well organised and well thought out. Not to mention the milk, prosecco and biccies left there for us whoch were most appreciated after a 7 hour journey there. The views from the master bedroom were spectacular, the toothpaste my favourite brand and the seafront a few minutes walk (at that). Thank you Maurice. We will be back!

Disappointed
For the amount that we paid for this accommodation we were disappointed.
On the face of it everything seemed clean and tidy however we do feel the cottage is due a deep clean. The rubber inside washing machine was caked with grim and had to be cleaned before using it as was the soap draw. The dish washer was clean inside however all around door rubber and hinges was not acceptable.
There was mould on both glass squeegees in both showers.
Things that may help to make this a better stay for others in the future would be:
- Better kept back garden so family and dogs can enjoy.
- Deep Clean over due
- Replace the Squeegees in the showers
- Some sort of shelf or carrier for soap and shampoo etc in both showers
- Storage space - If you are okay living out of your suitcase then it is fine however we feel it could do with more hangers and then somewhere to hang clothes as well.
So to summaries we were disappointed that the actual place did not live up to the pictures and although nothing major wrong did not feel we got value for money on this occasion. With some small changes and very little expense it can be brought up to a higher standard.
What a beautiful place to stay.
The view from the back of the house is amazing and so nice to wake up to everyday. You can even lay in the bath and look at the view!
Lovely house, lovely garden.
There are really good restaurants within a few minutes walk & they are on the seafront. Really friendly people too
Would highly recommend we loved it
This property is very clean, comfortable and well maintained. It looked exactly like the photos and we really liked the decor and location. Everything we needed for our stay was provided including bedding, towels, kitchen equipment and hand wash. The WiFi was good enough for our family to use several devices at once. Communication with the owner was good and our queries were answered promptly. The property has stunning views from the first and second floor bedrooms and a nice enclosed garden for those with young children or dogs. There are a couple of pubs about 3 minutes walk away, plus further eating places in the village centre which is only about 5 mins further to walk. The fish and chips from The Royal Plaice were really good and you can eat them in the pub right opposite. We ate at The Beaver Inn twice and enjoyed our food. Dogs are welcome in many places which was a real plus for us. I recommend a stay at this property if you want a break from the hustle and bustle and enjoy beautiful sea views. Thank you for having us.
We stayed at the property for 3 nights over New Year. It is in walking distance of some great pubs, restaurants and the Quay in Appledore. Nearby beaches are wonderful for walks and gorgeous views. The property is clean, well presented and was well stocked with equipment. Whilst small, there was room for 4 adults and 2 kids with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. The contact, Maurice, was really informative, flexible, helpful and was readily available for contact. A fantastic stay and would recommend for a great break.
Cannot rate Dartonia Cottage highly enough! Clean, tidy, everything you could need. Stayed in October with a baby & it was very cosy & warm. Owner very friendly & responsive with all communications. Wonderful house in a lovely location. Thank you very much Maurice
Great property for a stay in the wonderful fishing village of Appledore.
Lovely bedrooms and two bathrooms for group of friends.
Breathtaking views from the attic bedroom.
