About this property

Cosy and luxurious cottage in spectacular Weardale - ideal for a getaway

Weardale Cottage is situated in the North Pennines, an area of outstanding natural beauty, in the charming vilage of Saint John's Chapel. It is fully centrally heated and has a cosy sitting room with log burner, ideal to relax in front of after a walk in the countryside in Upper Weardale. It also has a gorgeous kitchen diner with a large dining table. The two large double bedrooms both have king size beds and are very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer. The village is served by two pubs, two tea shops and a local shop which provides all your daily needs. The cottage is ideally situated for High Force, the most spectacular waterfall in England. The walking is superb with the Weardale Way running through the village and the Pennine Way nearby as well as the newly opened footpath 'A Pennine Journey' which runs through the village. There are many towns to explore including Barnard Castle, Middleton in Teesdale and Alston, the highest market town in England. The area is a haven for wildlife with some of the most spectacular upland hay meadows in the country and the highest density of breeding wading birds in Europe as well as black grouse. Britain's best preserved lead mine is at Killhope which makes for a good day out. The rich mineral heritage of the area is reflected in the area's designation as a European Geopark. Allied to this is the close proximity of Hadrian's Wall, Durham and its magnificent Norman cathedral and the Lake District. The Weardale Museum is nearby. Cyclists will enjoy the fact the cottage is on the C2C cycle route but there are many gentle rides along the Wear which are less strenuous. The river Wear is an excellent fishing river for sea trout and there is even the Weardale Ski Club should you time your stay to coincide with snowfall! I am sure you will enjoy a wonderful stay.
