About this property

Characterful 4 bedroom, spacious and light coastal house in Marloes, Pembs

A spacious, comfortable and light 4 bedroom family home in the peaceful village of Marloes, within minutes of Marloes Sands and Musslewick, just two of the stunning beaches on the magnificent Pembrokeshire coast.
Attached to the house is a ground floor one bedroomed annexe flat with separate entrance and patio area. Large parties or families spanning the generations, may be interested in renting the house and annexe together. If that's the case please enquire for a price. The house is priced for 6, to give a discount to smaller parties off-season. At other times the price for full occupancy will be required - please enquire.
The house is surrounded to the rear and side by beautiful mature and secluded gardens. The downstairs is a large open plan area. A huge kitchen leads into a sun room with part glass roof and large sliding door opening onto patio area. This room has a sofa, two leather chairs and a couple of leather Turkish style bean bags. Down a step through a wide opening is the inner ‘snug’, with wood burning stove, two comfy sofas, shelving area housing TV, video and music system. A double sided thick velvet curtain can be drawn across to separate the two rooms to give that extra cosy feel to the snug, or when open, it is just one great space.
The kitchen is large and well appointed. The solid oak table, when fitted with extra leaves, comfortably seats fourteen. It has a beautiful waxed terracotta tiled floor and is fitted with a Raeburn oven (great for roasts), electric oven, gas hob with wok attachment, fridge freezer and dishwasher.
Off the kitchen is a utility / shower room. A walk in shower – ideal for use after the beach, and large enough for little ones to share. The utility room is equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, Belfast sink, wooden draining board and pulley clothes horse suspended from ceiling (good for drying out walking and beach gear). The large hall area has extensive hanging space for coats, an upright piano and shelving with a variety of books. There is also a downstairs toilet.
The upstairs is L shaped and houses four bedrooms: two are very large, each with king beds, bedroom three is a small double and bedroom four is a double bedroom with one double bed and two singles, ideal as a children's room. All rooms have shutters or venetian blinds in addition to black-out blinds. In the main bathroom, the bath has telephone style taps and shower unit, sink and toilet. In addition there is a separate shower . Off the landing is a large airing cupboard, ideal for airing any damp clothing and towels.
The solar panels are really effective and provide the bulk of hot water throughout most of the year, central heating can be turned on when the weather is not obliging. A number of roof lights allow sunshine to stream into the upstairs area, down the stairs and, via a glass ceiling, into the downstairs hall, making this a bright and airy home. The Old Post Office is an interesting mix of contemporary and traditional cottage style and has been renovated to bring together the best of both and to provide a lovely home as opposed to a holiday let.
Unfortunately I may not get to meet you, but I will answer all your queries beforehand. When not there, the house and guests are looked after by friends, should the need arise, if not you have total privacy.
The Area
The Pembrokeshire coastal path is quite spectacular; in 2012 the National Geographic voted it one of the best places to visit in the world!. The village is on the Marloes peninsula. The long and spectacular Marloes sands is on one side (watch the trailers for Snow White and the Huntsman and look out for cavalry beach assault) and the undiscovered jewel of Musslewick bay is on the other, this beach is the closest a ten minute walk from the house, whilst it is accessible only at low tide, the lagoon type bay can be accessed for swimming at any time from the rocks. At the head of the peninsula is Martins Haven, where in spring and summer there are daily boats to Skomer Island, a wildlife haven for rare birds and seals.
If you love the outdoors there’s loads to do: great walking, swimming, surfing, sailing, kayaking, climbing, horse-riding, diving, cycling and fishing. In the village there is a pub serving lunches and dinners, a café/restaurant, a shop and a children’s play area in the village green. Just five minutes away by car, or a walk or cycle over the cliffs and the old air strip, is the picturesque Dale with its pontoon (great crabbing for little ones) and characterful pub, The Griffin, with its famous wall overlooking the bay, on which, on a nice evening, the world and his dog perches their pint.
Fifteen minutes by car in the other direction is the idyllic chocolate box village, Little Haven, with choice of three pubs and restauraunts to cater for all tastes. Further along the coast towards Newgale is the wonderful and unique Druidstone Hotel, a great place to pop into for tea during a walk, a drink to watch the sunset go down or a meal (although it can get booked out during high summer).
If you’re a sucker for beaches you’ll want visit South Pembrokeshire and the incredible Broadhaven South and Barafundle. When the weather isn’t great there are a variety of day trips: the historical city of St Davids passing through the idyllic Solva village and harbor, Narberth market town with its Spanish deli (Ultracomida) and Tenby with its architectural elegance and splendour. Many activities for the younger visitors: local seal/bird spotting, a day trip to Folly Farm or Oakwood adventure park (one of UK's top ten theme parks - the longest wooden roller coaster - Megafobia!)
There is a bus service to Marloes ->Haverfordwest (route 315), also the Puffin Bus service (route 400) which travels the coastal path. Just type in "Pembrokeshire bus times" to Google.

Fabulous cottage

We absolutely loved this Wales cottage, and would stay here again in a heart beat. It has tremendous character, and is super comfortable (we all slept like logs in the comfortable beds!) It's walkable to the coast trail and spectacular beaches and views. Thank you so much, Liz!

Perfect spot for exploring Pembrokeshire

The Old Post Office was very homely and well equipped. The open plan living area was a lovely sociable space and all the bedrooms were very comfortable and tastefully decorated. 20minute walk to marloes sands which is a gorgeous beach with a stop at Runwayskiln cafe en route! Loved going to see the seals at the end of the point. Great week! P.s. Camille’s takeaway pizzas are amazing.

Great location and homely house

Basic amenities in this characterful house but everything you need for a family break. Property says it sleeps 10 but would be a squeeze at full capacity, as only one bathroom and the separate shower opens onto the landing.

Cozy bolt hole

The property provided us with the perfect location for a weekend in Marloes. It had everything we needed and plenty of room. It is close to beaches and coastal paths. I highly recommend the Runwayskiln restaurant above Marloes sands and Camille's Pizzas were the best we had ever tasted and less than a minute away.

Beautiful cottage on beautiful Marloes peninsula

We spent three great days there, mostly walking along the coastal path. The cottage is stylish and comfortable. The owner is very helpful. Highly recommended.

Spacious and stylish house in a great location

We spent a week-long, three-generation family holiday at the old post office. There were five of us but I'm sure several more could have stayed without the house feeling cramped. The house is comortable, stylish and well equipped, and we never felt we were missing anything. Two wonderful beaches are in easy walking distance, and the boat to Skomer is only a few miles away. We only visited one local cafe - Runwayskiln, in easy walking distance - but it was a very good one!

A warm and comfortable house

A lovely house in a great location for coastal walks and visiting Marloes Sands and Skomer. The Lobster Pot in the village served great pub food and the little post office shop was very handy.

A Perfect Stay

We absolutely loved our week's stay at the Old Post Office. A really peaceful, spacious and well-equipped house with the most comfortable beds ever! The house felt instantly home from home and the layout of the rooms downstairs somehow enhanced that homely feeling. It was great to have a garden and the trampoline was a big hit with the three little ones as was the nearby village play area. Even though the weather was a little damp and disappointing, we enjoyed our visits to the beautiful Musselwick beach and the equally lovely Marloes Sands. The village shop was a godsend and, for such a small store, it is extremely well stocked. We booked a Tesco delivery for our arrival and then simply topped up from there when needed. Perfect! No big shopping trips! Another joy was the wonderful take-away pizzas two or three doors down the road. Liz was in touch the first evening to check we were ok and to see if we needed anything, so everything was great from the start. We would thoroughly recommend this as a perfect place to stay.

A lovely house in a beautiful area of Pembrokeshire

Reserving the property for our stay was a breeze, Liz was quick to get back to us and confirm availability, which is always a good start. On arrival there was a little confusion about getting the key as I hadn't received an email with the the welcome info that Liz sends out to her guests before they stay. A quick text later and Liz popped down to sort us our with a key and a short introduction to the property; often it isn't about what doesn't go quite right but about how it's dealt with and Liz dealt with it faultlessly. A couple of questions came up during our stay and again, a text had them answered and sorted quickly. After that it was smooth sailing. The house had everything we needed and is in beautiful countryside with multiple nice walks on the doorstep along with idyllic beaches to relax on and plenty of land and water activities around to keep you active if you wish. When it came time to leave, Liz went the extra mile by texting me to let me know the plans for the cleaner coming in and the next guests arriving; offering that we could leave a car parked at the house while we enjoyed our last day in the area and even pop back for a shower before heading home if we wanted. I'm sure that all depends on how the schedule looks but it was a nice touch on top of our stay and sums up how welcome we were made throughout our stay.

I love Pembrokeshire and having lived in the area for many years know it well. I will be happy to help you plan your holiday and get the most out of your stay.

Why they chose this property

The Old Post Office has the feel of a home rather than a holiday let as it has been lived in by the owner and her family for many years . The property has a great vibe, with the glass roof in the sun room you can enjoy the outdoors from the sofa, kids adore the trampoline, there's so much space upstairs and room for everyone to do their own thing or enjoy being together. There's a piano too!

What makes this property unique

The price shown is for 6 people. In high season (most school holidays) please plug in 10 to get the price as I only offer a reduced price for 6 off-season. When its very low season I may consider renting to 4 or even couples for a further reduction - please enquire.
Thanks
