About this property
Detached cosy cottage and garden, parking, walking distance to town, sleeps 4.
With flexibility on arrival day and a minimum of a 3 night stay, this tastefully decorated cottage, available all-year round, is fully equipped and suitable for couples, solo guests, business travellers, and families (regret not suitable for children under 6 years of age). The house has fast broadband, free wi-fi included, and French and British TV and free Netflix on a new Smart TV. If you are here for work, we now have a work station and chair, complete with USB and ethernet connections to flat screen. There are two pretty bedrooms, one double and one twin, a bathroom and two WCs. The private garden with seating area is loved by our guests as is the eating area, BBQ and 'quiet corner'. Sun-loungers and deck-chairs complete the exterior layout.
Note; price is all-inclusive, no extra cleaning or electricity charge. Linen and towels included and heating in the winter. A new eco-friendly heat pump has been installed for winter months, which is reversible in the summer to offer air-conditioning. There is also a cosy traditional log burner and we supply the first night's logs free of charge. A welcome pack is proving popular with our guests.
This is a spacious cottage within walking distance of the historic town centre and a few metres from the River Charente. The new leisure centre with two swimming pools (heated, one indoor, one outdoor) and gym is just a 5 minute stroll away. The house is fully equipped for all-year-round stays, complete with garden furniture and BBQ you can just relax away from the stresses of every day life. A five minute walk brings you to the heart of Civray with its bars, restaurants, boulangeries, private cinema, shops, new leisure centre with two swimming pools. Alternatively, you can stroll along the River Charente that flows through the town. If you fancy travelling out of town, you are on the edge of beautiful rural France with its fields of sunflowers, woodland and meadows. Local attractions include 'La Vallée des Singes" (Monkey Valley) where you can walk among the apes, set in a beautiful park. Futuroscope at nearby Poitiers is the largest attraction in France after Disneyland Paris and hosts a science and media-interactive park, events and concerts. A visit to nearby L'Isle Jourdain allows the adventurer in you to bungee jump off the famous viaduct, but if you don't fancy that a stroll along the river and lunch in the charming town is equally as enjoyable.
Other pretty towns abound including Verteuil-sur-Charente with its a selection of good restaurants, Ruffec, Niort, and Angouleme where each year there is an historic car race and rally that runs around the ancient ramparts of the town. A must for vintage car enthusiasts! The Val de Vienne motor circuit is also nearby. Cognac with its tours of tasting houses is just an hour away and La Rochelle on the coast just 1 1/2 hours. This really is an excellent base for exploring any part of France. Even Paris is only 1 1/4 hours away by fast TGV train boarding this direct service at nearby Poitiers,or pick up a local train at nearby St. Saviol The service also takes one directly into the terminals at Charles de Gaulle airport.
If watersports are your thing, there is canoeing available at nearby Le Rejaillant with canoeruffec.fr, in the summer months. Or why not have a peaceful morning's fishing in the river or nearby Lakes? Licences are readily available locally.
There are several excellent local restaurants, just let us know if you would like us to book on your behalf.
The town street lights go out at 10 pm, so this is perfect for star-gazing while you relax in the garden.

About the host
Hosted by Frances Wedge
I have lived in France permanently for 13 years, and had a home here for 16 years. Civray is my 'local' town and I know the area very well, happy to advise places to eat, things to do and see. My background is in public relations so going the extra kilometre to keep guests happy is second nature and I will do all I can to make your stay an enjoyable one.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this house the first time I visited it, it is set in an historic part of the town, where the Knights Templar once walked the streets. In fact their ancient Commanderie is just 200 metres away! You are just a stroll away from the market and yet also on the edge of open countryside and opposite the river; the best of all worlds! There is a new Centre Aquatique just 600 mt from the property with heated indoor and outdoor Nordic pools, as well as a small gym, and a sauna. The town boasts some good restaurants, bars and other shops, as well as a pretty park that hosts a music festival in July and antiques/brocantses during spring and summer months. If you wish to travel a bit further, you can be by the sea in under 2 hours and a visit to La Rochelle is a must, or a drive over to Coulon to relax on a boat on the canals there. Not forgetting PAris that is only 1 1/4 hours away from Poitiers by fast TGV, an easy 'go to' for lunch or an overnight stay.
What makes this property unique
Relaxing.
Peace and quiet but near to the town centre. The pretty garden is so peaceful with plenty of places to sit, eat and relax.
A few metres from riverside walks and kayaking.
Five minutes walk to two beautiful new swimming pools, one indoor, one outdoor (and heated!).
Five minute walk to the boulangerie in the morning for fresh bread and scurmptious pastries/cakes!
Loads to do and places to see, including the Vallée des Singes, where monkeys roam free among the visitors
Lovely, private garden.
Beautifully decorated throughout.
1 1/4 hours to Paris by direct train.
1 1/2 hours from the coast (La Rochelle).
1 hour 20 minutes to the chateaux in the Loire Valley
Historic town but on the edge of countryside.
Welcome pack for guests.
