About this property
Stay Above Our Antique Shop In The Ridgeview Suite @ Stony Creek Depot
The building (originally a pub for local quarry workers) was built in the late 1800s, with the upper residence added in the 1930s. We've renovated the suite (2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths) with modern comforts while retaining much of the original charm. The interior design aesthetic is a blend of new and funky vintage finds, carefully chosen to be age and gender neutral. With a large bright kitchen, office/library, wet-bar and laundry room, this suite offers many more amenities than a comparably priced B&B or hotel room in Branford. It's a perfect space for family vacations, bridal parties, corporate and academic professionals who seek fully furnished, inclusive utilities and WiFi.

Barbara has a beautiful set up. The place is so welcoming. We had a fantastic stay. Barbara was always available if we had a question. We wish we could have stayed longer. We will be coming back!
What a gem in Stony Creek! A spacious apartment above the antique store. Walking distance to the market (wonderful breakfast sandwiches). Very well stocked kitchen and bathroom. TV room had games for all ages, puzzles and books. Very clean with a quaint laid back vibe. This is a place we will put on repeat when looking for a change of pace.
We had an amazing time! The property and amenities were perfect and beautifully decorated. Walking distance to the dock/beach and nearby trail which made it pretty easy to explore. Enjoyed building the puzzles provided too!
Great stay in beautiful home and charming village of Stony Creek!
This property is full of whimsy, fun, lovely decor and perfectly placed antiques. Lots of room for the family to spread out with two living rooms. Well stocked with all the essentials. Both front patio and deck spaces give outdoor seating options. We enjoyed walks along the water with views of the thimble Islands and just across the street to the Trolley Trail and footbridge.
I’ve been visiting friends that live in Stony Creek for years, but this weekend with a wedding to attend right down the road we decided to get our own place, and this could not have been more perfect. It was clean, accessible, spacious and welcoming. If you’ve never visited the area this is a perfect place to stay and explore this great little town.
Ridiculously spacious. Barbara thought of everything. Extensive movie options, board games, well-stocked Keurig, cookies, even some vinyl LPs! We've stayed in many VRBO properties, but this one is the clear winner! 10-15 minutes away from your choice of excellent restaurants and just a minute away from the shore. Thank you Barbara!
This suite was beautiful. Very clean and comfortable. Had a lovely kitchen living room den and two bedrooms. With two baths. A shower to die for. We will be back next summer
We return to Branford because we love the area. We return to Barbara's rental because she always spoils us with her kind hospitality and attention to details. This is our fourth stay, our first in this apartment; we found it as beautifully curated and comfortable as the top floor. The weather during our stay was March-like, changeable from winter wind to spring sunshine, and the apartment met the challenge - warm and cozy throughout. Barbara has a knack for providing the elegance of a hotel with the comfort of home, with some eclectic decor and antiques thrown in. We had a wonderful stay, certain not to be our last at this unique property.
We 3 (mother, sister, adult daughter) arrived on a gray, drizzly afternoon. First comment by all: "So glad it's raining so we don't have to go anywhere!" the suite is so charming with unexpected artful touches throughout that there is no way one could not feel certain that this is a true "home away from home" for relaxing, recharging, and making new memories to last a lifetime.
We were so impressed with the location, size, cleanliness, and accessibility of this property. It was tons of room for our family of 4 and our dogs. We felt immediately right at home and it was an excellent location for our wedding at the Guilford yacht club. Even though it is 2 bedrooms we were able to make the little sitting room into a sleeping area for our infant. The host was very accessible and helpful. The yummy snacks that were left saved a few temper tantrums with our toddler and the high chair and available pack n play were great help with our infant. Thank you again!

Homey, warm and so comfortable.
The pictures on the web site don't do this lovely apartment justice. If you want to be apart of an Eastern shore town, choose this rental. I would recommend, coming before Memorial Weekend, as this little town fills up quickly. Barb and her husband are amazing. They have put so much work into the building, it was indeed a labor of love. Do take the Thimble Island boat ride to see the amazing homes on these tiny but beautiful islands. Do go to Rosso Vino for dinner one night.......great food/service and not overly priced. We will be out this way in 2019 and will be sure to stay here. Thank you Barb for everything............you are such a nice person.

Yes, Felicia was here for SPRING in full bloom - and she's right that in SUMMER our little village is quite busy (when accommodations are in highest demand): but guests will surely find something special about our neighborhood ANY time of the year.
AUTUMN in our area is stunning - when the foliage color is artistic and the air is crisp with the smell of harvested apples and pumpkin spice. Crunchy leaves underfoot on the nature trail may bring back memories of childhood adventures.
Then again, WINTER has it's peaceful charms: our place is an ideal writer's retreat setup for working on that novel, screenplay - or humble blog post. (Melville, Hawthorne, Whitman and Twain all found genius inspiration in New England's wintry days.) Walking down to the marina when the snow is falling and holiday lights twinkling is magical.
So, basically -> it's always the right time of year to stay with us at Stony Creek Depot!
Our 2 night stay at the Ridgeview Suite exceeded our expectations. It was lovely to meet Barbara at the depot. She put so much attention and care to the property. So many surprising details and ameniites. I normally stay in hotels so was thrilled to find robes and slippers! Great furnishings and decor in every room. I slept so well. More space than we needed for just the 2 of us but lovely for having another couple over for a bit after dinner. We didn't cook but the kitchen was incredibly well equipped. Great location- a quick walk down to the Stony Creek Market which has the friendliest people and great breakfast and luck. (We were lucky enough that Stony Creek Market also had pizza night during our visit.) We hope to visit again for a longer stay. Thank you!
This is a rare rental available in the "village" of Stony Creek, allowing you to walk to all the lovely spots in the community. The space is very generous, with a large kitchen/dining room, two parlors, laundry room, and a foyer/office in addition to deck/porch space. This makes it a great value for your money.
There are beautiful views out over the Thimble Islands and lots of operable windows to bring in the natural light and sea breezes. This is a sturdy historical building with plenty of charm. Ample thought has been put into the guest experience, such as providing beach towels.
The unit it is one story above the street, which is nice for privacy. This is the main street in town, but still a quiet place. The owners have another rental upstairs, so you may occasionally hear footsteps etc. - not a problem at all, just something that some would want to be aware of. The railroad bridge is nearby, so if you are not used to the train noise, it might surprise you at first; however, the trains do not blow their horns and the host has provided ear plugs.
Tiny things that made it not-perfect for me: perfumes in cleaning products and (this is a very nitpicky one!) lightbulbs with a very cool color temperature, making an otherwise cozy place feel un-cozy at night. That said, it is a very high-quality property with proactive local hosts so I do not hesitate to recommend it.
We love the Ridgeview Suite so much, we came back for a third time, and can't wait to stay there again! The suite has everything we need and them some, it's charmingly decorated, and the hosts are wonderful. Thanks for creating such a wonderful home away from home in picturesque Stony Creek!
We just finished our second stay in this wonderful apartment and have already booked a third. Barbara is a wonderful host who has created a welcoming and beautiful place to stay in picturesque Stony Creek. The decor is charming, comfortable, clean, and provides everything you need for a short or extended stay. We now call it our Connecticut home. Can’t wait to go back this fall!
We stayed at this charming property on a short spring break get away. It had everything we needed to rest and relax. The location was also great with just 20 minutes drive to New Haven.
What a wonderful vacation rental! The apartment is beautiful with eclectic decor that is visually pleasing. The kitchen is well stocked, there are multiple offerings of books, games and videos and wonderful walking trails nearby. There is space for everything from relaxing to dining to outdoor seating. There is even an office space for remote work. The apartment is so large we felt we could easily and comfortably live there. Barbara is an excellent host and fun to talk to. We loved that she welcomed our extra large Newfoundlands as guests. Stony Creek is a beautiful sleepy village with not much to do but a very short drive into downtown Branford or Indian Neck for dining or nightlife. We rate this rental as number one of all of the places we have stayed with our dogs from Florida to upstate New York and in between. Highly recommended! We were sad to leave.
Wonderful Christmas holiday at the Stoney Creek Depot
Our stay could not have been more perfect!! We arrived to find that the owner had decorated with stunning holiday decorations!! She also had delicious snacks waiting for us to enjoy after our long trip from Colorado. The location was perfect since it was next to the Legacy Theatre where our daughter and 2 grandchildren were performing in A Christmas Carol. We can't wait to return!

About the host
Hosted by Barbara Lucas
As Branford natives, we both are very familiar with the local area and enjoy renovation and preservation projects, and are happy to share our tales of what we learned about our building's history and character. Both fans of Big East Basketball, Claudio is a Providence Colleage Friar and Barbara is a Villanova Wildcat - so when it's March Madness, we are glued to the stats! After globetrotting in the yachting industry, Barbara's 15-year residence in Florida came to a halt when she relocated back to New England in 2008. As frequent vacation home renters themselves, we know what travelers expect when they arrive at their destination: clean comfort.
Why they chose this property
We renovated Claudio's childhood home in this great New England town and know that the shoreline real estate here is HOT! Together we merged our skill-sets on the Stony Creek Depot project to showcase our design aesthetic, expand our retail vintage business and secure a home in a highly coveted neighborhood. Our guests can book short-term stays in the spacious residential space to enjoy this wonderful little coastal village. Residents and tourists take in the beautiful Thimble Island views and nature hikes that are just footsteps from the Depot's front door. We love Branford and consider ourselves lucky to get a footing in the Stony Creek village, where properties often remain in the same family for generations. We are dedicated to helping this property flourish as a vibrant part of the community since it has a 100+ year history of adapting to commercial and residential enjoyment.
What makes this property unique
This property retains the original flavor of an older, coastal New England home, while bringing in some of the modern comforts that we enjoy and guests will expect in a vacation rental. Without having direct water views we are able to keep the price point a bit lower than higher dollar properties footsteps away, making it a budget-friendly alternative to a generic hotel room. Because we are also pet-friendly and only require a 2-day minimum booking (not a full week), Stony Creek Depot is a great weekend getaway retreat. We love using this residential space while we run our onsite, street-front business and we hope that making it available for short-term rental will enable visitors to appreciate the charms of the Stony Creek village.
