About this property

Ca' della Frutta

A simple, well-tended ‘Home Sweet Home’ with terrace, privately tucked away close to Campo Santa Margherita.

Sitting high up above Dorsoduro’s narrow Calle de la Pazience, and directly facing the upper reaches of the 14th century Church of Santa Maria dei Carmini on one side, Ca’ Della Frutta sleeps 4 guests in recently renovated 2 bedroom accommodation on the 3rd floor reached by stairs.

So named after the floating - and exceedingly photo-friendly! - fruit and vegetable boat moored at the Ponte dei Pugni (Bridge of Fists) on the San Barnaba Canal nearby, and brought to you complete with air-conditioning* for summertime comfort and Wi-Fi connection too, its neat as a new pin accommodation comprises:

• A modern beamed main living area made up of a small yet well-equipped kitchenette/dining space and sitting room all in one, which leads to…

• A spacious and secluded tiled and furnished terrace - facing the church and offering the slimmest sideways glimpse towards the Baroque façade of the Scuola Grande dei Carmini - and an ideal spot for breakfasting beneath the blue skies of a warm spring or summer morning or winding down (Prosecco in hand!) after a fun time about town

• A spotless modern bathroom with shower and washing machine

• Two simple bedrooms in a pared down/minimalist style - one a double, the other a twin with 2 single beds and both with terrazzo flooring

OUR COMMENT

Compact, unfussy yet with everything to hand in a thriving and very ‘real’ district of town…

…Where residents and students from the university meet for a ‘spritz’ and to catch up on news, and where cafes, eateries, bars and gelaterie all join together in creating a buzzing and very local Venetian atmosphere.

Within moments of a traditional ‘macelleria’ (butcher’s shop), a well-stocked 2 floor Punto Simply supermarket, the campo’s fresh fish, fruit and vegetable stalls, plus 2 ‘vino sfuso’ (wine on tap) shops - spot the demijohns! - for all your self-catering needs.

A short walk to the Church of San Sebastiano and its marvelous Veronese paintings, and the beautiful Ca’Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Venice and vaporetto (water bus) stop on the Grand Canal.

Also close to the popular Venice Jazz Club and to some of our favourite Venice restaurants including Enoteca Ai Artisti (definitely worth booking due to its tiny size!), Da Codroma, Ai Quatro Feri, plus Pane Vino e San Daniele at sleepy Campo dell’ Angelo Raffaele.

Within easy walking distance of Piazzale Roma if travelling light.

Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in different apartments? We offer another apartment in very close proximity: Ca’ Elvira

Ca'della Frutta everything one needs in a really great location
I spent a month in Ca'della Frutta. It's an amazing and well-appointed apartment in the best location. Easy to come and go, while being near Campo Santa Margherita, where one can experience the local life. Apartment is steps away from many Venetian specialties, e.g., pizza to take back and enjoy on apartment terrace, spritz of course, cicchetti, cappuccino, fruit and fish markets, pasticcerie (Dal Nono Colussi !). Spacious closets and bigger bedroom, very comfortable bed. Ca'della Frutta terrace is a bonus right off kitchenette. Top floor location with windows on both sides of apartment brings in plenty of bright daylight. Views on Venice team is the best.

A perfect stay
From our arrival at Santa Lucia until our departure five days later we felt well cared for by Views on Venice staff. The water taxi we ordered was waiting for us as was Enrica who met us when we arrived near Ca Rezonico. The apartment was just as described and extremely comfortable. This was our second time using Views on Venice and we will definitely recommend Views to our friends.

June stay
Stayed for eight nights in June. Two adults and child. two good sized bedrooms. Nice bathroom. Nice but small balcony, no view but nice and peaceful. Location good for zattere and train station. Top floor which we prefer but does mean lots of stairs - worth it for us. Agent who met us very helpful and friendly. Better selection of crockery such as bowls, glasses would have been beneficial with it being self catering. We found it quite limited. Guests to be mindful of four flights of stairs and no lift but that can't be helped. Could only find Italian TV channels. Overall excellent

Nest over the roofs of Venezia
The situation in Dorsoduro, the sunny balcony, the nice view of the beautiful church, the privacy, the high ceiling, the good beds, the big window in the bathroom, the good air conditioning, the apartment distribution, etc...etc.. A bigger coffee machine, normal glasses for wine.

About the host

Hosted by Views On Venice

Host profile image
Views on Venice was founded in the late 1990’s when the concept of short term apartment rentals was in its infancy and rarely considered an option by most visitors to the city. As a ‘thirty-something’ Venetian excited by the new business and communication opportunities offered by the internet, I decided to link up with a close childhood friend in creating a partnership which, at the time, was a novelty in Venice.
The idea we had in mind was to approach the traditional management of my family’s apartments from an entirely different angle, while at the same time resisting the attentions of those wanting to transform my family's palazzo into a prestigious hotel.
Our aim was to offer these apartments, as well as those of friends, for rental to an international clientele who’d take pleasure in the comfort, freedom and authenticity of ‘living at home as a Venetian’ rather than merely observing the city from the confines of an anonymous hotel room or suite.
The common denominator then, as now, was to offer ‘something extra’ amidst an already extraordinary city - an added dimension which turns a ‘stay’ into an ‘experience’ and a 'dream' into 'reality'.
