LUXURY BAROQUE CHIC IN SAN MARCO WITH ROOF TERRACE

Ca’ Spencer is a beautiful recently restored apartment with 15th century beams and a panoramic rooftop terrace (altana).

Tucked away in the ancient centre of the city, the apartment enjoys quiet seclusion yet it is just a hundred metres from the Grand Canal and only a few minutes walk from the bustling high spots of the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square.

Comfortable and decorated with Venetian style and flair, this spacious third-floor apartment, spread over 85 sq metres, has an open plan living area, modern well-equipped kitchen, Bisazza mosaic bathroom with WC, and two double bedrooms.

Stairs climb to a relaxing mezzanine area overlooking the living room – and then up to the furnished rooftop altana. With views of Renaissance palazzos and chiming bell towers, this is the perfect spot for blue-sky breakfasts and romantic sun-downers.
The apartment boasts air-conditioning, super-fast Wi-Fi, Blu-ray/DVD and 4k TV with Netflix.

Please note that the flat you are renting doesn't have a reception, there is going to be Irene or Francesca who will come and show you the flat and give you the keys. For this reason we would need you to confirm your phone number, your expected arriving time and to let us know if you have any delay. Please ask for arrival after 10pm (flight after 8.30pm) - there is an Extra fee of 25€ for arrival between 9 - 10pm, and 22 - 23 is 35€ after 23 is 40€. Please ask for arrival after midnight. It will be collect via airbnb or by cash.

The city imposes a tourist tax of 4 euros per adult and 2,00 euro for children per day for a maximum of 5 days. Please pay this tax in cash to Irene or Francesca when you arrive. They will also required by Italian law to check your travel documents.

A quiet apartment close to everything

This apartment was very nicely appointed, quiet, and close to everything. The kitchen is particularly nice and well equipped. When the weather is nice, the deck on the top floor is wonderful. The hosts were terrific once we were able to communicate with them via WhatsApp.

Excelente: un apartamento suficiente para 4 personas, buena cocina, cómodos dormitorios (la almohada blanda no es para mí pero los colchones estaban muy bien) y un aseo con todo lo necesario. Para llegar al apartamento hay que subir unas estrechas escaleras pero la situación es muy buena, cercana a todo, con un supermercado nada más salir a la calle. Además la relación con los arrendatarios fue muy rápida y eficaz (necesitamos alargar la estancia un día y lo arreglamos en un momento). Dos recomendaciones: usar un water-taxi para llegar (sobretodo de noche, es como un sueño) y dar un largo paseo por Cannareggio hasta la estación de tren (por el camino hay tiendas, cafeterías, iglesias...) para volver en barco línea 1 viendo deslumbrantes fachadas de palacios. ¡Ojo a los días en que se puede tirar la basura! Los domingos no puede sacarse a la calle, lo siento...

Perfect place to stay in Venice!

This flat is well located for easy travel around Venice. Francesca and Irena were very helpful with check in a great ideas for food and things to do in town. The apartment is very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. It was wonderful to stay in a place with so much character and that felt like a home. We hope to be back!

Fantastic apartment!

My husband and I spent a week in this wonderful apartment and it is one of our favorite in all our travels in Europe. The location is wonderful - right next store to a grocery store and minutes from shopping and dining but away from the crowds. Irene and Francesca were wonderful co-hosts! While we never actually met - they responded very quickly to my emails. The rooftop terrace was absolutely stunning....

Great Location, Comfortable Apartment, Loved the Roof Deck

My friend and I spent a week at this wonderful apartment and loved every minute! It was located on a quiet street about 20 feet from the rear door of a super market, which supplied all our grocery needs. The opera was about a 5 minute walk and San Marco Piazza was about a 15 minute walk. The unit has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, with a separate shower and bathtub, which worked for us. I used the air conditioning, which is available in 3 separate units throughout the apartment, in my bedroom. It worked fine.The rooftop deck, while not overlooking a canal, gave us an interesting rooftop view and we spent most evenings there drinking wine and eating cheese and snacks. A canvas cover provides shelter from rain. The kitchen was complete with useful condiments. There is actually a floor with a single bed between the main living area and the rooftop deck that could accommodate another person. We used that area to dry our freshly machine washed clothes. Everything worked--plumbing, A/C, etc. However, the apartment is a 4th floor walkup--not for the faint of heart--but being on the top floor reduces the noise and buys you that wonderful rooftop deck!! Thank you Irene and Francesca for making our stay so enjoyable!

Great Week in Venice!

The property was very easy to find, the directions took me right to the front door. I have to admit those stairs were very daunting at first, but going up and down all week, got me into shape! It's 3 1/2 floors of stairs. There was 4 of us which included 2 teenage boys and the apartment gave all of us a needed break from each other when we got back at night. The balcony was my favorite place in the apartment. We had coffee up there in the morning and listened to all the seagulls and birds and wine at night to watch the sunsets. The grocery store is very close. We ended up cooking 3 dinners instead of going out. We were able to find some great wines for not much money! I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Venice. Karen

Been twice already ! I love this place.

I’ve been many times to Venice and this gorgeous apartment is a must from the first time I stayed here. Hoping to make my third booking here for my partner’s birthday, it really feels like home. It’s right in the middle of San Marco, between Rialto (2 min walk) and Accademia. Right in the middle of where everything is happening but without being bothered by the noise of the many tourists. There’s a brilliant supermarket just outside the palazzo, where you can do your shopping (it’s so easy) and there’s also a Coop near Rialto where you can get the most tasty “Sarde In Saor” (sweet and sour sardines in onions, a typical Venetian delicacy) from the deli counter. The fish market is a must, I can’t stay away from it. Followed by the veg market where you can get white asparagus and “fondi” which are the soft bottom parts of artichokes. In spring and autumn you can get “Moeche”, that are baby crabs that shed their shell, which are considered very special by the Venetians. OMG, having written this I just want to be back there now. I think I must have been Venetian in a past life as it’s the only city that I felt I knew as soon as I arrived the first time. History, architecture, art, food, romantic walks...Venice has it all and this stunning apartment makes the whole Venice experience unique. I normally complain about uncomfortable beds and flat pillows when I travel, but staying here takes comfort to a whole new level, but maybe that’s due to the lovely wine enjoyed on the “altana” roof terrace :) Bravo to the lovely owners for sharing their bellissima casa veneziana. I’ll be back soon

Comfort and and luxury in perfect location

Had a 4 day break here to catch tail end of the Bienalle I could not have chosen a better place.....I walked everywhere from the front door. Supermarket within 10 yards. Best of all after walking miles every day the apartment was so good to hang out and relax in. Well equipped kitchen, netflix, extremely comfortable bed and fabulous bathroom. This apartment manages to combine luxury and comfort. I felt at home and pampered at the same time. So much better than a hotel and just yards from the water is stop from the airport. Also Communication with the owner was really good and responsive. I will be back.

Wonderful apartment; live like a Venetian

If you want to experience real, living Venice without spending an absolute fortune I cannot imagine there can be anywhere more beautiful and central than Ca' Spencer. The apartment is near the Palazzo Fortuny, a short walk to San Marco and a hop to the Rialto Market, yet it feels far way away from the tourists. Designed and decorated in a stunning Rococo style by the owners, film directors Chris and Caroline Spencer, the flat is beautiful and comfortable. One senses the generosity and imagination of the owners in the attention paid to every small detail from the kitchen cutlery, books about Venice, recipe books, lists of recommended secret Venice places and even the available tv channels and videos. It is rare to be able to sit outside in solitude anywhere in Venice,so to have breakfast or dinner on the altana, or roof terrace, gazing across the terracotta roof tiles and up at the crooked campanelli, with not another human being in sight is a unique and enchanting experience. Staying in an apartment and cooking for yourself is far the best way to stay in the city because you can avoid the often sub-standard and usually over-priced restaurant food. Instead enter into the life of the city by going to where the Venetians buy their food, either in the excellent nearby supermarket or the Rialto Market where scents of herbs combine with the aroma of roasting coffee; purple velvet aubergines and rich green spinach compete for attention with flashes of silver from the fish stalls, while little dogs gaze longingly at the sausages on the butcher’s counter. But be prepared to wait your turn as the stall holder discusses at length, with every customer ahead of you, food, wine, the weather, politics and life. Everyone knows everyone and, long before Shylock asked “What news on the Rialto?”, Venetians have gone there to gossip and catch up on what’s happening behind those palazzo walls and in the mazes and alleyways make up their extraordinary city. Forget the overpriced cafes of San Marco and Palazzo Ducale. The Rialto market, rich as a Titian painting, enchanting as a Vivaldi concerto and as seductive as Casanova, is the beating heart of Venice. If I've gone a little di troppo with my review its because I adore Ca' Spencer. I've stayed there three times and want to go back again. ASAP.

We immediately feel in love with this apartment. Though it required completed modernisation throughout, its light airy feel, numerous features reflecting its 15th century origins and incredible altana [roof terrace] where you hear only birds and the occasional chiming church bell made it irresistible.

What makes this property unique

All the major cultural attractions of Venice are within easy walking distance. You can visit the designer shops of San Marco, buy wonderful ingredients in the Rialto markets [four minutes away] or spend a glittering evening out at the Teatro La Fenice - just around the corner.

Here you will walk through some of the most ancient alleys and passageways in the city. The apartment is on one of the first streets to be paved. Next door was home to the Venice's most important opera house, Teatro San Benedetto - and the altana overlooks the stunning Palazzo Fortuny which still regularly hosts some of the best art exhibitions.

Next door is a large well-stocked supermarket and a multiplex cinema - and narrow secretive alleyways will lead you to the local wine bar, Enoteca al Volto, a favourite with guests.
