This was an amazing place for our family we enjoyed our stay and the kitchen had plenty of dishes and needed things for cooking meals together as a family. Close to Nauvoo beautiful home.
David was a fabulous host and very quick to respond. The house was large and perfect for our little family reunion of 4 siblings and spouses. We enjoyed all the church history sites at Nauvoo. They have a nice large dining table where we could all eat together, then play cards in the evening.
The house was perfect for our extended family, 3 family groups together with a wide range of ages from three years old to grandparents. They had everything we needed to cook (we even grilled) with a big stocked kitchen, and clean up, and the owners are so kind and helpful. They wanted us to have a great family experience and we really did! Thank you!
This was a mansion, indeed...such grand curb appeal, and a sparkling view of the river. So many rooms and comfy living areas - cozy recliners for movie watching. Best part was the kind owners, eager to make it memorable for us. They succeeded!
The owner is wonderful! This place is so family friendly. There is so much space and it is well stocked. There are lots of woods around the house and you are right on the river so if you are coming in the summer be prepared for bugs and critters. The kids loved seeing bunnies and deer. They also loved catching fireflies. Make sure you bring bug spray especially if you go to the pageants in nauvoo.
We have stayed at this time previously and it always provides what we need for space and amenities. The home is well stocked in the kitchen for ease of cooking. The only draw back was we ran out of TP/kleenex/paper towels. We will know to come prepared the next time. Over all great home!
We had a great stay here. Exactly as described. We loved to spread out and rest after our busy days. Felt even more spacious with the two story ceilings. So neat being on the Mississippi. Convenient location being in between Nauvoo and Carthage which were what we came to see. Friendly hosts. Thanks for the good memories
Overall, it was such a wonderful home to stay for our trip of 2 families with 9 people total. I only gave 4 stars for description accuracy, though, because when we arrived the basement with the ping pong table was off limits due to renovations and the A/C was out of order waiting on a part (which I understand is not something you can plan for, but would have been good to know in advance so we could have prepared better for that). It was a very clean home and had anything you might need and was close to lots of good restaurant options and a short drive to Nauvoo. The kids especially loved the themes of the bedrooms. The large 2 story main room with windows all the way up was so beautiful, but did have some wasps up there. It's obvious they do what they can for pest control, but with it being in such a beautiful location with woods & river nearby, just know it comes with that! The wasps mostly stayed up on the upper windows and didn't bother us much, but we would find dead ones below, so I know it's treated against them! So, to sum it all up, it was a beautiful home and was a fantastic location for our Nauvoo vacation, but maybe check with the owner before your trip if you're worried about anything specifically. They were very friendly, quick to respond and helpful!

We are grateful for wonderful people like all of you. We put in a brand new heating and cooling system just before you arrived. The a/c had a defective coil.
We were so grateful to stay in this beautiful house. It is surrounded by forest on three sides, and the Mississippi river on the other. What an amazing view and what a beautiful home. The home has such beautiful, big windows that let in so much light and happiness. The kitchen was well equipped, and the house was clean, tidy, and beautifully decorated. The upstairs bedrooms were Themed, which made it fun for our kids to choose their favorite room. We will definitely stay here again.
Short drive to Nauvoo (12 min drive), spacious old house overlooking the Mississippi
Worked just fine for our family of 8 with room to spare. We spent most our time in Nauvoo — were really only at the house long enough to eat breakfast and sleep. Made one dinner there. House is large but very very dated. It fit our needs for a place to lay our head at night and gather our family. The owner is passionate about Nauvoo and likes to have people enjoy the place. But, between the killing of many spiders, ants and mice sightings inside, as well as the very dated decor, linens and kitchen utensils/equipment, I would have preferred something else.
The mansion was just that! The pictures do not do justice to the actual home. Clean, orderly, beautifully appointed and nice environment. We lacked nothing and our morning and evenings together in the mansion were memorable. The location was ideal, located halfway between Nauvoo and Carthage. Easy access to stores in Keokuk was a nice affordance. My brothers and our wives get together each year. This was by far the nicest place we have stayed! Anyone spending time in Nauvoo should stay here.
The “get directions” map takes you to downtown Nauvoo. This house is located in Hamilton 10 minutes away. I had to contact VRBO to get a response from the host. The silverware drawer was full of mouse droppings. The house is big so it worked for our group but it needs a deep clean.

We arrived after a long day of traveling, and we were locked out in the dark for an hour since the key box didn't work. The home is nice, but there were some major cobwebs and piles of lady bugs. Two of the bathroom lights were burned out, the shower didn't work, and the one roll of toilet paper per bathroom didn't last the length of our stay.
We were blessed to rent this beautiful property for an extended New Year's weekend. It was a serene setting on a hill overlooking the lake. We enjoyed relaxing indoors, as well as exploring the quaint downtown of Nauvoo and sledding nearby, as well as in the backyard. Our hosts were very gracious and accommodating to our family. It was such a precious time to make memories and start the new year with anticipation.
This would make a wonderful get away for other families looking for a respite from the stress of a pandemic. My only recommendation would for fellow winter guests to prepare for potential snowy weather by bringing extra shovels, salt to melt ice, and sleds. In such peaceful, small towns, it can be harder to find these items in stock nearby. Thankfully, the hosts contacted us ahead of time to let us know that snow removal was not included, so that we could try to better anticipate the weather.
The host was kind and accommodating.
This place is indeed laid out like a mansion, and the 13 of us had plenty of room to gather or spread. The rooms look neat and kept in order. We enjoyed the ping-pong table, and the deck (after applying deet against bugs, it's a common Mississippi blessing).
There are signs of neglect, though. The driveway could use a load of gravel on the steep section so cars won't get stuck. The plants around the house could use a trimming. We found mouse droppings inside. The WiFi didn't work. If you don't mind some roughness in your experience you'll enjoy the place.
The property is fairly well maintained. There was some confusion on the checkin process (they were transitioning to a new security system), but we managed. There was quite a bit of dust etc. on the ceiling fans and the windows were quite dirty. Overall, very comfy and easy to feel at home. The grill was very nice and functional. The kitchen was well equipped with appliances and tools (difficult to find sometimes - not surprising for a rental, but well furnished). Knowing that the property owner no longer lived on the premises, I planned for delays in return messaging, and it worked out fine. Responses were within a day or two. As recommended on the website, if you have any questions, ask ahead of time and be prepared.
We had a wonderful stay! Beds were comfy, place was clean. Convenient location to the Tri State Rodeo, which is why we went.
Would definitely stay here again!
This was a great place to stay for us. There was an issue with hot water the first day and it was fixed the next day. They were very responsive to us and had great communication. We had room to spread out and a large kitchen to fix meals in. We also had a large table to play games at when everything in Nauvoo shut down. I would recommend this property.
We were impressed with this beautiful home, its furnishings and views. It was pleasant to stay there and we had everything we needed for our comfort and safety and privacy!
