The Happy Clam is a large stylish comfortable home with walls of windows, including a two story great room. This makes for wonderful viewing of the water, sky and historic bridge. Inspiring in any kind of weather. The location is ideal:

* sits right on the quiet south jetty with great views from the bay to the ocean - birds and seals are constantly in view as are fishing boats cruising by

* is at the epicenter of fun stuff, all within walking distance - a serene beach, clam beds, biking, pier for crabbing, marina, Rogue Brewery, marine attractions including the fabulous Aquarium and marine science center, restaurants, shops, glass blowing, bike trails and miles of beach.

* is wonderfully comfortable for a great night's sleep, lounging, and fully equipped for fun activities including games, ping pong, pool table, foosball

* close to fun festivals, 5 min. walk to WINE AND SEAFOOD FESTIVAL and others.

5 BEDROOMS TOTAL (including small bunk bed room) with addition of ground floor apartment or:

MAIN HOUSE ( up to 08 guests) can be rented separately at approximately $100 less per night (see vrbo.com/315491) but most groups of 8 or more prefer the entire house to spread out.

The main part of the house is on the second and third level which is also why the views are so good. There we have 3 bedrooms (1-King and 2 Queens) plus a bunk room (small room with bunk beds) and a loft area with a pull-out couch. The bedrooms all have walk-in closets and baths. There are 3 HDTV's and plenty of couches and chairs. The master bedroom has a double walk-in closet, so large a twin mattress can be put in one side for an extra sleeping place.

The dining table seats 8 (10 can work) and the kitchen counter seats 3. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pans, pots, cutlery, spices, flour, sugar.

APARTMENT is included in this option (VRBO 914857) and rates. It is a cheerful space on the first level of the home. It has a bedroom with a queen bed, a bath, a small living room and kitchen plus another HDTV. It's nice to have this space for those that are bit noisier or need more quiet time -- depending on the group.

The Happy Clam is great for smaller families and is also perfect for expanded family get-togethers, retreats, book and other clubs, reunions, birthday or other special days (including surprises) - or just plain getting away from the routine. There is no bad season to hang at the Happy Clam. It's always relaxing and never boring.

Ring doorbells with video exist outside the house for security purposes.

What a beautiful place to stay

The house was everything it claims to be plenty of room for large families and more. Tha Owners are amazing and helpful. The home had plenty of things to do games, pool table, ping pong, crab pots and close to much more. We would definitely stay here again.

Great get together

We celebrated my Dads 82nd birthday. The lower apartment was perfect for my Dad to stay in and allowed him to be able to come upstairs and join the rest of the big crazy family and then go to bed early. Loved that there was a bathroom for every bedroom and a ton of space! The windows were massive and we enjoyed watching the boats and sea lions in the bay. It was very clean and had everything we needed.

Great property for a group! We had an amazing week. Aged from 2 to 79. Beautiful views and weather. The kitchen was well appointed, and we enjoyed cooking some amazing meals here. We’re all foodies. The guys went fishing and we enjoyed a crab feast and all took home fish. Gary was a great host, but honestly, the house was so guest ready, we didn’t have any questions!! Five stars! I will look forward to staying again. Extra guests stayed at a local RV park and hotel… so convenient! Thank you Gary and Kathy!!

Our family has been coming to Newport for many years for vacations and shared a home with other families. We were overjoyed when we found this home on South Beach with such a great view and location and so many things to do in the neighborhood in walking and bike riding distance. Practically everything you want on the Oregon Coast.

Why they chose this property

We used to climb big cliffs to get to the beach. New we have a leisurely walk along the jetty to the beach, or go in the other direction to the piers, marina, aquarium and restaurants. There is always something interesting in the area: throwing our crab pots off the pier for some dinner, clamming at low tide right out front, finding treasures on the beach and watching the seals and birds splashing and diving. The Aquarium, Marine Science Center, Rogue Brewery, Marina, Glass Blowing, restaurants all close by.

What makes this property unique

The house has lots of windows and light. Even if its winter, there are fantastic sights! Some of the best weather can be in January and February. There is a loft on the top floor with great views and the master bedroom is nearly as large as the living room. Even in the apartment there is a tantalizing view. The layout of the house allows for good separation of residents if needed, such as seniors not having to navigate stairs and children in fun areas. Also great spaces for group activities.
