We at Hawaiian Journeys offer unique and affordable vacation experiences, by using alternative structures known as Yurts.
Our Yurt, located on the big island of Hawaii, allows for more space and a vacation experience you'll want to share with others. The Yurt is fully furnished with queen bed, refrigerator, microwaves and more. It's like camping with all the comforts of home.
Welcome to Hawaiianjourneys, we invite you to join our Ohana for a vacation designed to be one you will remember for many years to come. Our accommodations are spacious, comfortable, unique and private. Invented over a 1000 years ago, a yurt is a comfortable, cozy building with great functionality.
We have modernized it, to include one bedroom, modern amenities and gorgeous views among cool and relaxing breezes. We are an eco friendly Inn. We recycle our gray water for plants and pineapples. Because of our location you will see more of Hawaii then if you stayed in Kona and you will sleep better. After all there is MORE to Hawaii then beaches and bars... and isn't a vacation supposed to be relaxing. Stay with us once, and I guarantee you will be back again. We have other one bedroom and studio yurts available, please contact us for rates and details.

We enjoyed our rustic stay at Oceanview. Accommodations were just what we needed for this vacation. Visiting from Oahu, we wanted something away from city lights and this was perfect. The host was so nice and informational as we were notified when the volcano erupted so we were able to witnesss that spectacular event.
What a wonderful and unique place to stay! Despite very high winds, our yurt was very comfortable. Waking up to the sounds of nature was very peaceful.
The yurt was absolutely everything we were looking for! Halfway between Kailua-Kona and Hawai’i Volcanoes NP, quaint and clean. Loved watching the stars and waking up to the birds in the morning. Host was very communicative and helped us out when we got lost. Lovely stay!
Great experience. Yurt was well stocked, very cute and clean. I arrived much later thank my original ETA but Kia was at the yurt as soon as I left him know I was there and showed me around. They use a fancy #2 toilet that biodegrade but it was easy to use.
If your looking for a rustic experience in a unique part of Hawaii then you won't be disappointed.
I would stay there again!
Quite enjoyed staying in a yurt, a first for me, and talking story with both Kai and Lisa - both were friendly and welcoming. The yurt was spotless and it was fun to go semi off the grid and off the beaten path. I appreciated the quietness away from the "big" city and enjoyed the beauty of the property and just exploring the surrounding area. I may have gotten lucky as the weather was constantly breezy/windy, which I personally like, and there was only a sprinkle at night, so I was able to explore by motorcycle during the day. All in all, I'd love to "unplug" again and stay there again in the future.
Host did not show up to check us in or provide checkin instructions
NOT SAFE FOR YOUNG WOMEN. NOT SAFE FOR TRAVELERS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ISLAND. The hosts did not provide checkin instructions and asked us to let them know what time we were arriving so they could be there. We arrived at the agreed time and waited over an hour. We tried opening any yurt that didn’t have a car or shoes in front. Nothing was open, no one was around. We called the number provided and it was the wrong number! We woke up someone in Oregon and she said it happens all the time. We ended up contacting VRBO and leaving. Luckily I used to live on island and knew of other places to go to in the area. The hosts didn’t get back to us for 3 hours! By then we were asleep in a wonderful hotel down the road, called the Hawaiian Island Resort. When we contacted vrbo in the morning they put the host Lisa on the line and we listened to her go on an angry rant about us inconveniencing her. It was a wild experience and we did not feel safe going back to the property for our 2nd booked night. I can’t say this enough: pass this one up. The hosts are rude, and do not follow through. They provided wrong contact information and out dated driving directions. They knew 2 young women were traveling alone at night and blamed us for their own mishandling of the situation. We found the property on our own, we showed up on time, we waited over an hour at night, we communicated kindly and appropriately, then we left when we received no response. Only to be accosted on the phone with a vrbo rep listening. Do not book this.
We came to get a sense of what Ocean View is really like. We absolutely loved the quiet, starry nights up in Ocean View. The yurts were cozy, clean and extremely comfortable. It was just what we were looking for. The host and her son were amazing. They were knowledgeable about the area and gave us great insight into what life in Ocean View is really like. It was a different experience than we've ever had in our years of visiting Hawaii. If you want a slower pace with cool evenings and great access to the southern tip of the Big Island, then I highly recommend staying here. We would definitely come back.

Disliked: Location
Isolated Location
This yurt is approximately an hour drive from any facilities. The property is novel, clean, tidy and well equipped except for the toilet. As well as the isolated location, the major drawback of the facility is a complex sanitary system which involves separate toilets for liquid and semi-solid human waste. The semi-solid human waste must be incinerated by the toilet after each use. The instructions are complex and the resulting incineration of the waste fills the yurt with smoke and bad odor. Our stay was marred by a malfunction with the incinerator toilet for which we were financially penalized by the property owner. Also, the internet connection was very poor.
We really enjoyed our stay, and the property manager was very friendly when we checked in. The property has a great overlooking view of the area and coastline.
If you haven't used an incinerator toilet before it is a bit different but not a problem.
The only suggestion I have for the owner would be to add a hot plate or cover for BBQ grill, it dumped rain on us and we were unable to cook anything we had brought.
But aside from the weather changing our plans for meals we enjoyed our stay at the property.
The communication with Lisa and Antares has been absolutely perfect. The object was clean and totally looks in real like on the pictures online. If we'll come to Big Island again we'd stay here again.

Quiet and relaxing
I had a really relaxing stay here. The yurt itself was very clean and comfy. The area is pretty residential and quiet. I did have to drive quite a bit since the property isn't in a bustling city area, but I personally really liked that and I found it much more relaxing than if I would have stayed in Kona or Hilo. The landscape is so pretty that I enjoyed driving around, too. The one issue I did have was with the wi-fi and contacting the owner about the problem. But she was very nice about it and offered me a discount on a future stay.
One suggestion I have for the owners is to think about having an information sheet in the yurt with details about the property (how to use the TV, wi-fi password, what number to call for issues). When I've stayed in other places that has helped a lot. Also, I know it probably seems pretty obvious to you where to go for check in, but it's actually a little confusing (another couple that stayed during my time was confused too when they arrived). Just saying what to do for check in on the directions you send out to the property would solve that problem easily.

Great!
The yurt was very clean, and had a very comfortable bed. It is situated up the mountain so it can be cold in the morning, bring a sweater. Quiet and peaceful, lots of stars.

Lovely space.
The yurt was really lovely. The location is pretty remote which suited us as it was so quiet and the stars were so visible bit it is a long drive for those who want to be more central.
We didn’t manage to get any WiFi during or stay but I think there were some issues with the carrier.
Overall we had a super time.

Lisa was very nice and the Yurt was unique. The location was a bit too much out of the way.
Lisa was very courteous and friendly and the Yurt was well set up with fridge, microwave, towels etc. It was a very unique and different experience for us. This location is very Eco friendly and it took us a little while to get used to some of the details of the bathroom. Our timing was during the windy season, so we got a good dose of wind and a little rain. The location was very clean and quiet, except for the wind. Most of the people we met were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Overall the food was very good and I believed reasonably priced. For future trips I believe I would also like to stay at some of the other islands.
