About this property

Amazing Courtyard! Perfect 5br near Frenchmen

Summary:
This is the perfect spot to hang your hat while visiting nola. A fantastic 5 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom property perfect for large groups! For starters, it’s walking distance to Frenchmen St., and just a quick ride to Bourbon St., and the French Quarter, but off the beaten path and quiet at night. It’s also just next to the St. Roch Market, making it super convenient to pick up anything you need. While you’ll love the history of the home, you’ll love the modern amenities even more. Amazing Courtyard.

The Space:
The house is nicknamed the "Roch Lobster"

AMAZING NEW STONE COURTYARD INSTALLED IN SUMMER 2022- YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! Slate courtyard with a fountain, the perfect gathering spot to start or end a night on the town.

This cool and eclectic house will capture your heart and your imagination from the moment you enter!
While totally remodeled, it has retained its charm of yesteryear with period touches, like a brick fireplace (non-functional) in the living room and brick accents in the bedrooms. Music fans will particularly love the old-fashioned console turntable in the dining room. If you’re really into nostalgia, there’s even a video game to have you strolling down memory lane.
Gather the group around the living room HDTV to stream a movie or maybe a few episodes of the latest bingeable show. Sink into the comfy sofas with a glass of your favorite beverage and maybe even a tray of some yummy snacks.
Nothing old-fashioned about this kitchen! It’s been completely remodeled with stainless steel appliances and plenty of cabinets for all your goodies and groceries. Share your meals in the dedicated dining room or if you prefer, there’s plenty of space out on the patio with the charcoal grill.
What a great, private spot to enjoy an afternoon beer or glass of wine as you’re waiting for the grill master to serve up your hamburgers, veggie burgers, or steaks. The mural of the home’s namesake (the Roch Lobster) is totally Instagrammable!
There will be no fighting over bedrooms at the Roch Lobster! Each of the five bedrooms offers a queen size bed, while 3 full and 1 half baths are shared. And just because we thought the second story of every home needs one, there’s a suit of armor in the hallway between the bedrooms. Think of him as a security guard.
Please note that two of the bedrooms are “shotgun-style”. This is a typical New Orleans style of architecture, in which you have to walk through each bedroom to get to the next.

The Neighborhood:
The Faubourg Marigny, commonly just Marigny, is a hip neighborhood just "below" (down river from) the French Quarter. Best known for the great live music district on Frenchmen Street, the Marigny also offers neighborhood cafes & businesses, historic architecture, and more. It has the air of what the French Quarter was in it's golden days. It has a few small hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its "heart" is Washington Square Park (bounded by Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks. At Mardi Gras, the Marigny is one of the city's hidden hot spots. Very popular with locals, who enjoy partying in the streets without the busy atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Crowds gather at the corner of Royal and Kerlerec (outside of R-Bar Inn) as well as at the intersection of Royal and Franklin. Elaborate costumes are the order of the day, along with brass bands and many drummers. Two weeks before Mardi Gras, the Marigny is also the starting place for the Krewe du Vieux, a satirical, raunchy parade in 19th-century Carnival style! Complete with small floats drawn by krewe members and mules. Local cafes, restaurants and music venues line Frenchmen Street. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians, as well as a sizable gay and lesbian population. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers, Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman. Frenchmen Street is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood just below the lower edge of the Quarter. A 4 block stretch of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops mixed with live music venues make it one of the city's most hip places, catering more to locals than tourists (though tourists are certainly welcome, and welcomed). On any given night, one might find modern jazz, swinging traditional jazz, Latin American style music, rockabilly, and more within this small area.

The property is a far more worn down than the pictures suggest. The upstairs bathroom ceiling is slanted in such a way that it is difficult to stand in if you are over about 5’10”. A fuse blew when our group tried to plug in and use appliances and the property’s own instructions for guests ask you to not turn the AC below 72 in what is a very humid city. It is also not a great neighborhood, as evidenced by an actual murder that took place across the street on the morning of our checkout.

Mardi Gras stay
Came in town with my girlfriend’s family from Chicago for her family’s first Mardi Gras. We had a great time. The house was a great size for the 10 of us and really has a New Orleans feel to it. It isn’t terribly far from the French quarter, but a little bit of a walk. There is a great food hall located right across the street St. Roch Market great food and drinks. Also Hanks supermarket open 24/7 right down St. Roch was a great option for grabbing food late the poboys are delicious. It was a pretty busy area during our stay plenty of people out and about.

A great house in a great location!
Our family rented this house while we were in town for a family wedding. The plan was never to spend a lot of time at the house because of the wedding festivities. From that standpoint it was perfect because it had five bedrooms with queen size beds and an extra single in one of them. Comfortable beds in each. As advertised, too, three full baths and 1 half bath. Not a lot of ‘gathering space’ inside the house, but it has a large, fenced, private patio surrounding a fountain with ample seating. *That’s* where you gather. Very close walking distance to the St Roch Marketplace for food & drink with a NOLA twist. Very happy to recommend…

Great place for groups
5 bedroom house with plenty of space, bathrooms, laundry room and back yard. Right across the street from St Roch Market with several restaurants, bar and coffee shop. Short uber ride to French Market (uber and lyft are super fast here) about $6. Entrance is around the corner with a Schlage lock. They will send you the code before arrival. Directions from the management company are very long and somewhat complicated- don’t let that confuse you. Just two locks to enter. Only one TV in living room but WiFi is great.
