About this property
The Boathouse overlooking Green's Point Lighthouse and Passamaquoddy Bay
Ready for an adventure? The Boathouse is tucked away on Green's Point Road in L'Etete, just a three-minute stroll from the Green's Point Lightstation and museum. Once a rugged workspace, we’ve flipped it into a cozy coastal retreat that puts you right in the middle of the wild Atlantic landscape.
Kick back on the deck and soak in the raw sights and sounds—think crashing waves, barking seals, and the deep moan of the foghorn as the mist rolls in. Keep your binoculars handy, because you’re likely to spot everything from migrating birds to whales right from shore. When the tide pulls back, it’s game on: head out to explore the nearby islands and discover treasures like sea glass and tide pools left behind by the Bay of Fundy's famous tides.
You’ll feel totally off the grid, but you're actually minutes away from Seascape Kayak Tours, fishing trips, the Algonquin Golf Course, and local shops.
Essential Adventure Gear
To make the most of the rugged L'Etete coast, we recommend packing the following:
Footwear for Land & Sea: Stiff-soled hiking boots are a must for rocky trails. For island hopping and tide pools, bring water shoes or neoprene booties to handle wet, slippery surfaces.
Layered Clothing: The weather near the water can change fast. Pack moisture-wicking base layers (wool or synthetic) and a waterproof rain jacket to stay dry during mist or sudden spray.
Exploration Tools: Bring a small mesh bag or bucket for beachcombing finds like shells and sea glass. A headlamp is also great for navigating back if your island exploration lasts until sunset.
On-Water Safety: If you’re bringing your own gear, don't forget a Coast Guard-approved PFD and a dry bag to keep your phone and camera safe.

To top off your stay at The Boathouse, you're perfectly positioned to hit some of the best coastal eats in the region. Whether you're staying local in St. George or taking the scenic drive to St. Andrews, here is where to refuel after a day of island hopping.
🍴 Local Eats (St. George & L’Etete Area)
Birch Grove Restaurant: A local legend in St. George. If you want a massive seafood platter with deep-fried clams and scallops that practically overflow the plate, this is your spot.
The Rouxbarb: For something a bit more refined, head to nearby Utopia. This "culinary gem" offers contemporary, farm-to-table dishes that are perfect for a celebratory dinner.
Ossie’s Lunch: A classic roadside "food shack" famous for its lobster rolls. It’s the ultimate stop for a quick, fresh lunch before heading back to the lighthouse.
🌊 A Trip to St. Andrews-by-the-Sea
Just a 40-minute drive away is St. Andrews, a truly unique seaside town designated as a National Historic District. It’s one of the few places where you can dine on a deck overlooking the same waters where you just spotted whales.
The Red Herring Pub: Grab a seat on the dog-friendly patio for world-class fish and chips and a pint of local craft beer while watching the tall ships in the harbour.
Salt Bight: A dog friendly waterfront favourite where you can share a seafood boil for two as the sun sets over the Passamaquoddy Bay.
Honeybeans Coffee & Treats: The essential morning stop. Grab a Lavender London Fog and a homemade scone to fuel your walk along Water Street’s historic shops.
Char and Chowder: Famous for—you guessed it—creamy seafood chowder and lobster rolls, right in the heart of the historic district.

About the host
Hosted by Maureen Cowan
As a retired nurse I'm a parent to three children, a grandparent to three boys, and a caregiver to two cats and a dog. My husband, a retired biologist and professor, are spending our retirement years renovating an 1863c fisherman's cottage. At our daughter's suggestion, we converted the old boathouse on our property into a cozy short-term rental.
Why they chose this property
Green's Point Lighthouse and Museum stands as a maritime gem, rich in history and resilience against nature's fiercest elements. This area serves as a haven for diverse wildlife, amidst unpredictable weather patterns, the Bay of Fundy high tides fosters an intimate connection with the raw beauty of nature.
Growing up with family ties to the sea, I harbored a childhood dream of coastal living, immersed in the rhythm of the tides, the spectacle of storms, the moan of the fog horn, and the serenity of sunsets. The cries of seagulls, the annual migration of birds and whales, and the occasional visits from deer and other wild creatures were all part of the enchanting tapestry of life by the ocean.

What makes this property unique
Tucked near the iconic Green's Point Lighthouse at L'Etete Passage, where the Bay of Fundy meets Passamaquoddy Bay, our location is surrounded by rugged coastlines, abundant wildlife, and the captivating ebb and flow of the Bay of Fundy tides. Our restored 'Boathouse' has been transformed into a bright, welcoming guest cottage, seamlessly blending modern comforts with timeless charm.
Perfectly situated, The Boathouse is the ideal starting point for countless memorable day trips. Discover the nearby cities, towns, and harbors of New Brunswick, or cross the border into Maine at St. Stephen. The picturesque town of Saint Andrews by the Sea invites you to explore its rich history and connections to figures like Lord Beaverbrook and Sir William Van Horne. Nearby islands, including Deer Island and Campobello, offer fascinating excursions, with Campobello being home to President Roosevelt's historic summer retreat. Just ten minutes away, the working-class town of Saint George, where the fishing industry thrives, provides easy access to supplies, fresh seafood, and laundry services.
After a day of exploration, return to The Boathouse and unwind on the deck, taking in the stunning views—a perfect way to end your day of discovery.
