Enjoy your time just feet from the lake on the deck or in the enclosed porch. The home offers a great room with a knotty pine cathedral ceiling and a log staircase that goes up to a loft area that's an ideal place for unwinding from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Each of the 3 bedrooms along with the private loft are decorated in rustic design. RESERVE Carefree Creek at Stepaway Vacation Rentals for a true Northwoods experience!

The sandy frontage at Carefree Creek Cottage is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for swimming for the kids and the lakeside fire pit is a great place to gather at the end of a fun-filled day. There are 2 piers for docking your boats and for fishing off of. Little St. Germain Lake is a 986-acre lake with a maximum depth of 53 ft. It's known as a very good fishing lake and has good numbers of panfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, and musky.

I am a person who does not wear shoes in my home and so does my family do the same thing so being its summer we all went bare footed so with in a couple of hours are feet were black on the bottoms. We pay a lot for a cleaning fee but it is obvious that the floors have not been washed in a long time. Also it was advertise no pets and they don't tell you to bring your own towels.From what the rules at the place we could of brought a dog. You need to make sure you're cleaning company is doing their job and redo the ad.

Good morning Harry. I completely understand your complaint about the floor. They installed a brand new floor and this has been happening ever since. I assure you the floor can be washed 3 times in a row and the color still lifts from the floor. We have tried numerous cleaners that were reccomended for the vinyl flooring and still..... The floor is and was very clean. Our cleaners do an excellent job and have battled with this floor again and again. If you would have said something right away, we could have shown you and assured you that the floor was clean. Carefree Creek will consider pets.They need to be allowed by owner and management. I am sorry that you were not told to bring towels. That is our mistake. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to help you in the future.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: View is amazing! Location is perfect. Condition of the home is very nice w/ the updates. Kitchen is stocked w/ everything you need. Home is comfortable overall w/ the exception of the beds in bedroom 2 & 3 & very small showers. Loft & primary BR had nice memory foam mattresses however BR 2 & 3 had extremely uncomfortable mattresses; you could feel the springs in your back. There was residual pet hair on bedding & furniture which wasn’t a huge deal but we noticed it. Bedrooms 2 & 3 need hanging hooks as they’re quite small w/ limited space for belongings. Spiders were plentiful as well in the home. 🥴 (But it’s the Northwoods.) Aside from these things we loved it & would stay again. The 2 docks are great! Kids loved all the panfish off the dock. Perfect space for lily pad & kids to play in the water. WiFi is great to have. Overall amenities were very good but bring extra bath towels. Surrounding neighbors are wonderful! Property management company is very lovely to work with! We really loved this place & had a great time together as a family.

Family Vacation

We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider coming back. We loved our time on the lake and made amazing memories. The bathrooms are small and have very little water pressure but otherwise it’s a nice clean little cabin.

The home was exactly as shown on VBRO. Great location. Fifty feet from car. Fifty feet from piers. Pontoon was there ready for us. New neat boat with all extras. Excellent time. WIll be back in Spring

Super peaceful week at the lake!

First time at Little St Germain Lake and we loved it. So many bays to explore. This house worked great for my family of 5 - super clean, beautiful views, comfortable furniture. We rented a gorgeous brand new pontoon boat from the property manager which was so handy as it was waiting for us at the dock. Great swim access, close to grocery and restaurants. Super helpful property manager. No wifi, which was a bummer, but blessing in disguise! A great week!!

Carefree Creek Cottage Comments

The property is in a good location on Little Lake St. Germain. Some of the furniture was different than pictured, but all in good condition. Few of the neighboring cottages were occupied so it was very quiet, which we appreciated. Everything was very clean. Enjoyed our stay very much. The steps to the loft were very steep and it is totally open to the morning light, so no one wanted to sleep up there. However, there were enough bedroooms on the lower level for our family.

Snowmobile paradise

Location was perfect for snowmobiling to go any direction... Great staff at Hiller pines vacation homes...took real good care of us all month..

Cabin is inches from the lake which makes for a beautiful setting. Very early check out of 9 a.m. Watch fee charges - on this one.

Eagle View.

The big pine by the lake had a resident eagle that “talked”to us. Didn’t have a nest there. Enjoyed fishing off the piers. Used the two kayaks tho we weren’t told about them ahead of time. Collected wood from the side of the roads and had great fires. Inside space big enuf for seven of us at some times. Could control the temp. Had two crock pots tho the info said none and we hauled one up there. Could use more small spoons. Didn’t have WIFI and that was a biggy. TV hard to understand. It was a great family reunion. .

Cute home with direct lake access

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our rental was easy to find, and had perfect access to the lake for snowmobiling. We loved that there were some movies and blankets included, but there was very limited toilet paper that sent us to the store after 24 hours. The water had an absolutely horrid smell- a cross between rotten eggs and 1000 pennies. The smaller bedroom has a metal bed frame that will keep you up all night if you or your partner moved around any- the loud squeaks were heard in the living room and upstairs. The access to the lake and trails make this home a winner for us, but I don’t know if we could look past the water smell to actually return to it.

Thank you for your review Carli! We need feedback from time to time, and we already have a plumber looking at this. We've managed the rental for several years with no water complaints, which makes us believe a remedy can be found. The owner is very responsive to customers that don't have the perfect experience.

Disappointed they don't provide shower towels or bath mats - I think that information should be listed in the listing. Also Disappointed with their check-in/out times. Nobody was using the rental the night before I wanted to come early on our check-in date and they only let us come 2 hours earlier - kind of ****** with how expensive the rental was and a 9am check-out is crazy most places it's 11am. They also said no dogs but there were several rules within the house about dogs (keep them off furniture, don't leave them alone, etc) so it makes me think we could've brought our dog and save $300 on his kennel fees.Loved the view and there was plenty of space for everyone.

The only thing I would say was the stairs to the loft were a tad narrow if you plan on using the loft as a bedroom. Also I loved how helpful the management was, we never needed them for anything but when I spoke with her she mentioned she was only a phone call away had we needed them. Plenty of parking for 3 trucks with trailers even though we had to get a little creative. Not many houses can accommodate that! Would stay here again if we book another lake cabin!

50th Anniversary at Carefree

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed the closeness of the cabin to the water as it is difficult for my wife to walk any distance. The cabin is cozy and you can see that the owners are trying to update areas that need it. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and marshmellow roasts and the great views of the lake!!!
