Charged for a stay that was canceled by the host

I tried to add an additional day to my reservation and was told they could not accommodate. I was unsure what that meant so I asked for clarification. I asked if it was regarding the extension or the original stay and the only response I got back was reservation canceled. I never checked in to the room and was charge for my full original trip. Trying to get her refund is very difficult
