About this property
The Stone Cottage at Wollondibby - Heritage Listed l Renovated l Fire Place
Welcome to The Stone Cottage at Wollondibby, a unique and romantic alpine retreat where history, nature and modern comfort come together.
Dating back to circa 1855, this beautifully renovated heritage-listed stone cottage has been lovingly restored using traditional building techniques while providing the comforts and conveniences of modern living. Nestled along the scenic Alpine Way, it offers couples the chance to step away from the everyday and enjoy a peaceful escape in the heart of the Snowy Mountains.
Sleeping just two guests, the cottage is designed for cosy weekends and memorable stays. The open-plan interior features a comfortable queen-sized bed, a warm slow combustion fire and thoughtful touches throughout. Floor heating keeps the cottage cosy during the cooler months, while ceiling fans provide comfort in summer.
The kitchenette has everything you need for a relaxed stay, including an induction hotplate, air fryer, convection microwave, pod coffee machine and dishwasher. Whether you're preparing breakfast before a day exploring the mountains or enjoying a quiet dinner together, everything is close at hand.
Winter guests can make use of the drying cupboard to keep ski gear warm and ready for the next day's adventure, while the surrounding alpine region offers plenty of opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, hiking and exploring.
In the warmer months, take advantage of the beautiful countryside surrounding Crackenback Valley. Spend your days exploring the Snowy Mountains, walking through the surrounding landscape or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the property.
One of the most special aspects of staying at The Stone Cottage is its history. Guests can take a walk back in time and explore historic sites on the property, including the foundations of the old Wollondibby Inn, the historic bathing area, private cemetery and the first woolshed in the area. These remnants offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the early settlers, including Mary and James McEvoy.
There is intentionally no TV at The Stone Cottage. Instead, this is a place to slow down, curl up with a good book, enjoy the fire, share a bottle of wine and reconnect with the person you're travelling with.
The property also incorporates a number of sustainability practices, including rainwater collection, recycling facilities, water-efficient taps and showers, towel reuse, insulated walls and ceilings, double-glazed windows and protected green spaces.
Whether you're looking for a romantic weekend away, a peaceful mountain retreat or the chance to experience a little piece of Snowy Mountains history, The Stone Cottage at Wollondibby offers a truly special escape for two.

Lovely little cottage , clean and tidy, beautifully heated for a chilly stay in the Snowy Mountains. In high winds the chimney whistles tunefully. Lots of wild life and a few deer came by. The fire was a real treat.
