Fun filled weekend by the river.

Our two families both loved our stay at this charming gite with bundles of character. Pierre and Martine are lovely, they are both very warm, welcoming and friendly. Pierre helped us sort out a puncture (bad luck on our part!) and Martine showed the children all the animals a short walk away from the gite. There are a few cows in the field adjoining the back garden of the gite which the children loved. The back garden is very large and the children made the most of it for playing games. The views from the garden and gite are beautiful too. We made use of the BBQ which was great and enjoyed eating outside as Mettet was benefiting from a heatwave across Europe. As a party of 9 (4 adults and 5 children) there was more than enough space for us in the gite. It sleeps 12 easily. For 14 people the sofa bed in the large hall area on the first floor would need to be used. The bedrooms are all a good size and tastefully decorated. Two rooms have their own sinks. The towels and bedding were all provided and of high quality. There are 4 toilets and 4 shower/bathrooms The gite is lovely and clean and very well equipped, with plenty of fridge space, a freezer, wine fridge, combined microwave/oven, another oven, a coffee machine and washing machine/tumbler. There is also a sauna though we didn't use it as the weather was hot enough! The billiard table was great fun for adults and children alike. There is lots to do in and around the area and lots of information about local attractions is provided in the gite. The local bakery is a 10 minute walk or a few minutes cycle ride away and the nearest supermarkets are a short car journey away. Highly recommend trying the produce from the local Abbey - Maredsous - the cheese and beer are both lovely! We loved our holiday in the gite and would highly recommend it. The house has all the amenities and comfort you need, the large garden offers privacy and the tiny village of Furnaux is so quiet with almost no passing traffic. The location next to a former railway walking path brings you one way in Mettet with all the groceries shops you need or to the peaceful Abbey of Maredsous where beer tasting is waiting for you.

Property in quiet location at the time of year we stayed, xmas. it was clean and comfortable with nice wood burner for the cold evenings and enough room for a couple or with small child. kitchen was good although an oven would have been nice for cooking meals but we managed with the hob and microwave. the bed was comfortable and on the mezzanine with a good quality shower and bath which we enjoyed. the stairs upto the mezzanine are a bit steep with narrow treads so u need to be particularly carefully. outside is a nice raised deck with good views towards the river, one thing to keep in mind is that if you have any sort of mobility issue it is a bit of walk up hill to the property, to get luggage etc up is an effort but day to its ok. overall this is a nice and comfortable property the only issue we had was with the wifi so we could access the tv features we wanted but after communication and this not being able to be rectified the host offered to pay the cost of my mobile internet. im sure this place is lovely by the river in the summer.

The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The gite has everything needed, and is well furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen leading onto a secluded, peaceful garden, which is great for dining outside and catches the sun for much of the day. Lots of children's activities in the garden, swing, slide and sandpit, as well as bikes provided, table tennis table, table football and even an outdoor pool (unheated, so only really suitable for very hot days, unless very brave!) The local area is quiet, with little English spoken, so some French would be very useful. Nearby are many different towns to visit, as well as castles and abbeys, caves and steam trains, eg pretty Dinant and the Chateau de Veves. There is one restaurant in the village, with more in nearby Florennes, as well as quite a few supermarkets to choose from in the surrounding areas. Be aware that quite a few places don't take Visa or Mastercard, so carry cash. Definitely recommended for a peaceful get-away.
