Rangárþing ytra cottages

We loved our week in Iceland. The cottage was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. The beds were extremely comfortable. Being remote it was a brilliant place to see the Northern lights which was fantastic from the hot tub! Lots of exciting places to visit within 2hrs driving. Selfoss good for supermarket shopping only 20 mins away. The only improvement to the property would be for hot water and shower in the guest lodge, there were 7 adults in our party so there was often a queue for the shower. However, the shower was good and there was plenty of hot water. The kitchen was really well equipped with a nice big fridge and dishwasher. Having all the essentials like washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, soap, cleaning products, tea, coffee, salt pepper etc made it even better. Brynhidur was always quick at answering our questions and even left us birthday chocolates. A great place to stay -thank you so much!

First of all we must say that our host, Smari, was a pleasure to meet with and very helpful. The property was amazing. We have no criticism at all - everything was perfect. Having a hot tub was a bonus and we used it on many occasions. It was central to many of the sites we wanted to visit. Thank you Smari.

We had a great stay in this cosy, warm cabin with its views over fields and a river. The cabin is well equipped, fresh and clean with comfortable beds. Renate was easy to contact and very warm and welcoming. Her husband had to rescue us when we arrived as we took a wrong turn to the cabin and got stuck in snow! The turnoff to the 2 cabins is 100m or so further down the road from the farm turnoff. Beautiful views of stars at night with clearest views of constellations imaginable. We were one couple. Would be fine for 2 couples and a slight squeeze for 6. A 4 wheel drive car would be recommended especially in winter. Can highly recommend the cabin, the location (great for Golden Circle and south coast) and Renate!

original location, the impression of being alone in the world. the studio is furnished and decorated with taste, and very well equipped (especially regarding the kitchen). it's clean and quiet. the beds are good. Honestly an excellent address (we did not find anything negative!)

This cottage was spotlessly clean and very well kitted out. It was so quiet, right off the beaten path but along a decent tarmac and gravel road from the circular highway 1 near Hella. The only disappointment was that Hekla (volcano) didn't erupt for me (I am a geologist on geoloday!) but it was fascinating to walk along the road and see where the lava flows from 10 years ago ran across the road and have just been bulldozed out of the way to allow cars through! The landscape varies from rough lava flows to smooth basalt pavements to lush glacial outwash streams to sparkling rivers, with Hekla looking resplendent in her snow-capped peak overlooking the scene. We loved it and will definitely stay again when (not if) we return to Iceland. Also, Elvar, the owner, was very helpful (by email - answering very promptly) and also has a good sense of humour! Thanks Elvar for a lovely stay! We'll be back for longer next time!
