We had an amazing stay at Villa Estia, set just a short drive from Makry Gialos in a peaceful hillside location. The villa offered everything we needed for a relaxing family holiday and then some!The views were truly breathtaking—rolling hills, sea glimpses, and beautiful sunsets right from the terrace. The pool was a standout feature for us. It was perfect for both younger children and adults, with a great layout and plenty of space to swim or cool off. There were also plenty of shaded areas around the pool and outdoor seating, which was ideal for escaping the midday sun without having to head inside.Inside, the air-conditioning worked flawlessly throughout the villa—powerful, quiet, and consistent. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable, and there was a great sense of privacy and calm throughout. We especially enjoyed the dining spaces both indoors and out—perfect for big family meals or laid-back breakfasts with a view. There are many lovely places to see in a hire car and easily fell your time up on the island. Overall, we had a fantastic stay. Villa Estia is peaceful, well-equipped, and an excellent choice for families or groups looking to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of Crete. We’d absolutely stay again!

A lovely property overlooking Makrigialos Bay! Balcony was perfect for breakfasts, lunches and family time after our evening meal in a wide variety of tavernas across the area. The pool is perfect for a gentle swim or family games and the enclosed jacuzzi at one end added to the relaxing experience. Eleni, our host, could not have been more helpful. She provided a fabulous welcome package and detailed information about the area. Through chatting with her we were able to choose a variety of beaches to visit. We loved Staoysa beach, rocky but great for snorkelling and its idyllic taverna at the top - Oasis. The food is fresh, authentic and the setting is beautiful and all the better for being away from the more touristy tavernas we visited in Makrigialos. We would definitely recommend a visit to Chrissi Island, on a smaller boat to get the full experience, and a trip to Xerokampos with its stunning sandy beach, on the east side of the island. Also, a trip up the mountain along a windy road to the taverna in Pethki is not one to miss! A car is essential to enable you to fully experience this beautiful part of Crete. We decided against the 24 minute walk to the local beach (much longer coming back we decided) and instead we explored by car - resulting in a far richer and more enjoyable holiday experience !

Lovely spacious, clean 2 bed apartment. Balcony looks out over the beach (1min walk) shingle, very peaceful . Nota very friendly and helpful. Local taverna 2 mins walk and around 5 - 10 mins walk you can be in the old harbour and main sandy beach, very shallow perfect for kids, with several more restaurants, tavernas and snack bars. Also plenty of local supermarkets/ tourist shops. We very much enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

No directions via email were given to us but we managed to find the property. The name of the Villa wasn’t displayed so we didn’t know which one it was. The key doesn’t fit the front door properly and the owner was on in contactable so it was all a bit of a fraught start. Spoke to the owner two days later, who said that I had her landline number and not her mobile. Hence she didn’t reply when we couldn’t get into the property. Villa is on a very steep slope and any cars with small engines, can’t get up it. We got stuck and the next vehicle after us did as well. No light bulbs in the downstairs en-suite. Nice property but tired. Google maps says the villa is nearer to the town when you go on it via your site. Wi-Fi was dreadful. My husband had to work daily and for two days we had nothing. Not brilliant. Great views.

When we first arrived I was worried that the villa was too remote but we were close to 2 beautiful beaches and the town was only a 10 minute drive. The pool area was lovely with great views and it was good to have all en suite rooms.
