About this property
Beautiful Old Barn | New Forest | Just For Two
The Barn at High Forest Cottages is a beautifully restored retreat in the New Forest, perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing holiday for two. After exploring the Forest on foot or by bike, or visiting quaint villages, unwind by the cozy fire. The highlight of your stay will be the stunning mezzanine bedroom, accessed via a spiral staircase, and the luxurious bathroom. A serene and romantic escape awaits!
Nestled in the ancient North Ridge of The New Forest National Park, The Barn at High Forest Cottages provides a peaceful hideway to relax and enjoy the unique beauty of the forest.
Situated within the forest boundary, inside the cattle grid areas, our regular visitors include the famous ponies and cattle that make the forest such a stunning wildlife environment. Whilst deer are a rare sight, we often welcome a small herd into the paddocks, to enjoy some free grazing!
The Barn has been beautifully restored to provide an open plan living area with a mezzanine bedroom and bathroom, which is accessed by a stunning spiral staircase. The Barn has underfloor heating throughout and a cosy wood burning stove for chilly evenings.
The fabulous double height vaulted lounge with its character beams and fabulous double height windows make this a lovely space in which to relax. Heated by underfloor heating with the addition of a log burner, it is always cosy whatever the weather. A basket of wood and kindling is provided for you and you can top this up from the log store throughout your stay. The large Smart TV is connected to the free WiFi so you can log in to your own Netflix and Amazon accounts. A Blu-Ray player is also available if you fancy watching an old school movie.
The kitchen is well-equipped and you can easily cook a Sunday roast if you fancy. There are plenty of pans and dishes, a fan oven with grill and electric hob. The fridge has a small icebox and the dishwasher will take care of the washing up. Dishwasher tablets, as well as washing up liquid and tea towels, are available for your use. Milk, tea, sugar and ground coffee together with a cafetiere are provided so you can settle in as soon as you arrive.
The mezzanine bedroom, which is accessed by a beautiful spiral staircase, features a comfortable double bed (140*90cm), with luxury cotton sheets, a 10 tog microfibre duvet and four microfibre pillows. A dressing table with swivel mirror and hair dryer is situated at the end of the bed. With the bedroom in the eaves of this old Barn a low level hanging rail and hangers will provide space for you to hang your dresses, shirts and jackets.
The bathroom leads off the bedroom and is enclosed by a sliding door. It features a shower over the bath, towel rail, sink with mirror over and toilet. Lovely fluffy white towels and face cloths are provided for your stay. The underfloor heating ensures that little extra luxury during your stay.
A lovely patio garden, enclosed by a beech hedge is the perfect spot for a morning coffee or a lazy afternoon on the sun loungers. In the evenings you can light the BBQ for some alfresco dining and the outside lighting extends your evenings after sunset. Parking for two cars is available next to The Barn. The shared laundry with washing machine and dryer is available should you need it.
Guests have access to a private garden and parking space for two cars. Guests will have access to a shared guest laundry with washing machine and dryer. There is a log store to stock your log basket just in case you run out!
Due to the current pandemic we provide a contact free check in through key lock boxes. On the day of arrival we will send the code and location of the key lock box to you. We live on site so will be available if you have any questions.
We would love to welcome you to The Barn at High Forest Cottages. We have four cottages in total and welcome larger family or friend groups wishing to use multiple cottages for a special event or annual holiday together.
We are pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with only a small holding as neighbours. Cross the road and you will find open heathland, forested areas, small rivers and plenty of wildlife. There are lovely paths to explore for an early evening stroll or a proper hike. You can bring your bikes or hire them locally and explore the extensive off road cycle network in the Forest. Road cycling is very popular too and there are regular races held.
There are plenty of pubs nearby which serve good food and serve good beer. There is a little village shop 2 miles away, and bigger supermarkets a little further away. You are more than welcome to get online shopping delivered after your arrival.
You are most likely driving to the accommodation, although a taxi from Salisbury, Brockenhurst or Southampton stations is an option. A popular option is to cycle from the property, so feel free to bring your bikes. Alternatively, you can hire bikes from a number of locations in and around the forest, and some will deliver to your property. And, of course, there is walking directly from your doorstep, with miles of forest and heath to explore.
There is an additional charge of £25 per stay for upto two dogs. We have often accommodated more than two dogs and please get in touch prior to booking to discuss your pack!
For the enjoyment of all our guests, with and without dogs, we ask you to adhere to the following:
- dogs must never be left unattended, the security deposit is forfeited if found in breach of this;
- in The Barn dogs are allowed everywhere in the cottage, however please keep dogs off the bed. If the dog is found to have been on the bed we reserve the right to charge £100 per bed to replace bedding;
- please clean muddy paws after forest walks (please bring your own dog towels);
- please bring your own dog bowls, dog beds etc
- dogs must be toileted outside our gates, dog waste must be bagged and deposited in our black bins;
- dogs under one year must be crated at night;
- dogs must be kept on leads outside of the enclosed garden;
- any damaged caused by your dog will be charged.

We would love to welcome you to our special corner of the New Forest. We have both given up successful careers in London since our twin boys were born in 2013. And moved to the New Forest at the end of 2014.
Since then we have spend three years renovating and, in the case of The Hayloft, completely rebuilding our cottages. We have loved designing the lay out and choosing the best furniture and fittings always with our guests in mind.
We just love welcoming guests to our beautiful holiday cottages and helping them make the most of their stay.
We work with a brilliant cleaning team who take pride in looking after our cottages. They ensure every cottage is spotless for our next guest.
We hope you will love our cottages as much as we do and we look forward to welcoming you. Please do get in touch if you have any questions prior to booking.
