Beautiful house with spectacular views and an infinity pool. Very private—no other guests and nothing to share. This is truly something special. Villa Vetteglia is built on a hilltop, offering truly 360-degree views. 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The location is private and secluded, yet close to Lucca, Pisa, and Florence. Bagni di Lucca (for shopping) is 7 km away. Regarding the location, it’s on a paved mountain road, but please check the photos before booking :)
The space:
Living room with TV (no cable or satellite, only DVD). There are 3 bedrooms. One has a large double bed; the others have single beds (which can be placed side by side if desired). There are also 3 bathrooms with a shower, toilet, and sink. Washing machine; kitchen with dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, freezer, and gas stove. Central heating in all rooms. Bed 7/8 is a double pull-out bed with proper mattresses (160x200) and is located in the living room.
Outdoor area with an infinity pool (8x4 metres, unheated), multiple terraces, 6 sun loungers by the pool, and a private parking area for 4 cars.
During peak season, we only rent the house for full weeks from Saturday to Saturday. Outside of peak season, the minimum stay is 4 nights. The house and pool are all yours—nothing to share with anyone else.
The area is in the Lima Valley, which is part of the Apuan Alps. It’s a truly special area with plenty of wildlife. If you enjoy hiking, there are countless trails to explore—ranging from fairly easy walks to serious mountain climbing.
For cultural attractions, there’s Lucca, with its medieval city walls that you can walk (or bike!) around; Pisa (easiest to reach by plane); Florence; and Barga. In addition, there are many smaller villages to explore. Montefegatesi is one of them—just a 10-minute drive away—and is famous for its beautiful location atop a mountain and its statue of Dante (you can walk or hike up to the statue, leave your car outside the village since the road is too narrow to drive on)
Bagni di Lucca and Fornoli both have a supermarket and some nice restaurants, as well as places for takeaway pizza (a 20-minute drive from the house). On the way to Lucca, there’s a very large Esselunga supermarket that has everything you could wish for. It also has an excellent selection of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, and fish.
Some useful distances:
Bagni di Lucca: 7 km (supermarket, restaurant, pizzeria)
Lucca: 30 km
Florence: 100 km
Pisa: 55 km
Siena: 170 km
Barga: 25 km
Esselunga supermarket: 25 km (very large supermarket on your way to Lucca)
For those interested in some background information:
Building the house was a real challenge. Beneath the house lies an old ruin. Because of that ruin, we were permitted to build a new house on that very spot. However, the spot where the ruin is located does not offer the spectacular views. After a lengthy process (spanning years), we finally got the go-ahead to start building on the desired spot. This presented new challenges, since the hilltop where the house now stands wasn’t suitable as building land. It took a lot of planning and landscaping to build the house in its current location. The same goes for the pool—that took another year—but the spot where it stands now is the only right one, so it was worth the wait. The access road was the final hurdle. It was a terrible dirt road. It was maintained, but it wasn’t much fun to drive on. It took two years to get permission to pave it (Italian style, I guess), but we ended up with an access road that anyone can navigate. All in all, the entire construction process from start to finish took seven years. But now even the Italians come over to take a look and are amazed by the views and the house.
Guest access:
Guests have full access to the entire house and the private pool. The parking area is private as well. The access road was built specifically for the house. The only other people who use that road are a few local farmers and a shepherd.
Other details:
The last 300 metres to the house used to be a dirt road and was paved for this project. Now any car can drive on the road, but of course
