About this property

Stunning Family Cottage With Garden On The Seafront

Swallow Cottage is luxurious 3 bedroom seafront stone/wood house with fantastic sea views from every room. The house is 15 metres from the sea with views of Galway, Connemara and the Aran Islands.
It is situated on the spectacularly beautiful Flaggy Shore, a national heritage site and one of the loveliest parts of the 'Wild Atlantic Way'. The spacious open living area has underfloor heating throughout the kitchen, dining room, the two bathrooms and lounge which also has a wood burning stove.

Our beautiful home has large french window/glass doors in every room with stunning sea views that open out into the garden just metres away from the ocean. Perfect to watch seals and dolphins in the bay and spectacular sunsets of Galway Bay with your BBQ.

Step outside the garden gate and a lovely sandy beach faces you. There are several family friendly sandy beaches in the area. A short walk along the coast is the highly rated seafront Linnanes Lobster Bar/Restaurant which serves deliciously fresh locally caught seafood and a great pint of Guinness. The local fisherman's wife sells fresh fish on the harbour just outside Linnanes.

General information. Swallow Cottage is located in the spectacular area of Ireland known as the Burren (irish meaning Great Rock) which is one of the finest examples of glacio limestone landscapes in the world. Formed 350 million years ago, the region is rich with historical and archeological sites. There are more than 90 megalithic tombs, dolmens older than 5600 years and ring forts including the exceptionally well preserved Caherconnell Stone Fort. It is also renowned world-wide for its remarkable diversity of plants and animals.

The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular attractions of the area as are the Aillwee Caves, the most famous of the many thousands of ancient caves beneath the limestone mountains.

The Burren also has a long history of traditional Irish music which is played in many of the pubs throughout the area particularly in Doolin.

Swallow Cottage is midway (15 minutes drive) between the lovely coastal villages of Kinvarra, Co. Galway and Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare. Both offer a great choice in shops, restaurants, pubs and farmers markets selling locally produced produce.

The area has several excellent golf courses including the world famous Lahinch links course.

Fantastic place!

We had a wonderful trip to Co. Clare and staying at Swallow Cottage was such a treat! The cottage was just as described (if not better), and had everything we needed for comfort and more for four adults and two young children. The rooms were spacious, amenities were top notch, and we loved being able to vent the windows/doors (of which there are many!) to take in some of the cool coastal air. To say the views were breathtaking is an understatement. Easy walks up and down the street to Linnane’s, Russell Art Gallery, or down to the shore. The cottage’s yard provided ample space for the kids to play and burn some energy, and being a short drive away from Kinvara and Ballyvaughan was perfect for our needs. Day trips to the cliffs, Aran Islands, and Galway were easy. We were sad to leave and would return in an instant. Thank you for providing such a memorable home base for our holiday!

Beautiful house in a beautiful spot

Loved the house, comfortable and classy without being precious in any way, some very nice original art work on the walls added to that touch of home. I imagine the location might seem bleak to some in bad weather but it was really lovely for our stay (mixed but no real bad weather) plus you had the option of the log burner if you needed it. Would recommend this house.

Fantastic seaside cottage

I absolutely loved this place. A completely modernized cottage built right into a stone foundation/facade with all the amenities you would need, right on the ocean. You can open the windows and listen to the sounds of the waves crashing all day. In fact, the unit is almost entirely surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows.

Wonderful Week on the Flaggy Shore

We loved our stay at Swallow Cottage. The walks along the shoreline are spectacular and there is some interesting country lanes behind as well. The everchanging seas are a wonderful backdrop. The house itself is fully equipped and a nice size for 6 people. We found 2 bathrooms a bit of a challenge at times but we knew that before we booked so no complaints. The Flaggy Shore was central to our daytrips. Traffic to Galway was challenging at times, but we perservered. And it is easy access to The Burren and Cliffs south of it. Kinvarra is close enough to buy groceries, etc. easily. We highly recommend Swallow Cottage.

Swallows Know Best Location!

We were looking for somewhere special to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and Swallow Cottage was perfect. It has it all, stunning location nestled in it's very private spot right on the shores of Galway Bay which is famous for sunsets but with sea views from every room just as special to wake up to every morning. Built using traditional materials with a light spacious modern interior and well designed layout (bedrooms in separate wing) the luxury of underfloor heating, an extremely well equipped kitchen make this a beautifully appointed home. As for ways to spend your time, swimming just yards away, the many attractions of the Burren are on the doorstep and a little further Connemara and Galway City where a visit to Sheridans Cheesemongers or the boulangerie Le Petit Delice will have you thinking you are in France! The Russell Art Gallery close by serves good coffee and cakes as well as light lunches. For seafood lovers, like ourselves, there is the local Linanes Lobster Bar and Morans at the Weir in Kilcolgan also many more restaurants to suit all tastes. This part of Co. Clare is gaining a well deserved reputation for it's local produce so pick up a copy of The Burren Food Trail-follow it and enjoy! The owner Robert made the booking procedure easy and Diane who looks after the cottage is so friendly and helpful, we hope, like the swallows, to return next year.We would have no hesitation in recommending this this property as the perfect holiday destination. Beautiful location in the Burren on Flaggy Shore with all the outstanding attractions of local history and geology. From a simple walk along the shore, touring the wildly beautiful landscape of the Burren, viewing ancient ruins of abbeys and monasteries, to dining at Linnane's, this property has all you need for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in these troubling times. Great views from the house.

The Enchanted Swallow Cottage

The Enchanted Swallow Cottage was everything and more than I’d hoped for. Quiet, a bit remote, which I loved, but convenient to all the important sites. CLIFFS OF MOHER, ARAN ISLANDS etc. Shopping at the help yourself veg box up the hill renewed my faith in humanity. Find out for yourself! Do be careful with the garbage. Ireland is very strict and God Bless them for it! Hope to return next year, and visit the friends I made this year. Truly Enchanted Thank you, Robert and Ruth

Fantastic views - large house

The house was large and lovely furnished but a little bit old-fashioned. Some pieces of crockery were damaged. The garden was wonderful with a fantastic view, but we missed a table and chairs for outsite, as the weather was constantly sunny and warm. The house was perfectly located to explore the area (Galway, Burren, Cliffs of Moher, ...).

My wife is an artist from the area and loved the unique location and wanted to live there since she was a child. We finally built our home in 2004. We decided to rent to holiday visitors because we felt it was a waste to have such a beautiful home empty for most of the year.

Why they chose this property

Our house is a traditional stone cottage but is architecturally designed to have all the mod cons including underfloor heating as well as a wood burning stove. It has a top quality kitchen and furnishings. It is on the seafront with a safe walled garden and very short walk to a sandy beach, an art gallery and renowned seafood restaurant/pub.

What makes this property unique

The stunning location overlooking Galway Bay. The house is near some fantastic coastal walks, beaches, prehistoric sites, castles and some of the world's finest golf courses.
