About this property
Luxurious 3250sq Ft Home Overlooking Galway Bay & the Burren with WiFi
Sleeps 12
Lisheen House is a large modern spacious house covering three levels that can cater for large crowds comfortably. The kitchen dining and sunken living room is all one area and covers over half of the ground floor area. Also on the ground floor there are two spacious bedrooms with queen beds. One has a full ensuite and the other has a small washroom with sink and toilet. The next level which is again built on concrete floors for safety and noise reduction boasts an extra spacious living room with cut stone fireplace and a very large panoramic window with views of Galway Bay and the Burren hills. Sun light is a large feature in this room and is a great place to relax with a glass of wine and browse through some of the many books that are provided. Both living rooms have 54" flat screen tv's with seperate satellite controls. The main bathroom and two more bedrooms are also on this level. One is twin and the other has a queen bed with its own ensuite. The upper level has another twin and double bedroom and a wash room with toilet and sink. The house sleeps 12 in total but we can provide two extra folding beds at an extra charge. The house is centrally heated throughout and during the colder times , we provide wood for the open fires in both living areas. However, we do charge extra for the utilities which are oil and electricity. These are paid for prior to leaving so that way you only pay for what you use, which is the fairest system. All our fixtures and fittings are to a very high standard and we continually strive to maintain a high quality in the house. The house is located midway between the beautiful coastal villages of Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare and Kinvarra in Co. Galway with an approximate distance of six miles to each village. Both villages offer a good choice of shops, restaurants ,pubs and craft fair and a farmers market is held one day a week in each village. However we are very lucky at Lisheen House to have a highly rated pub and restaurant that specialises in sea food only a few hundred yards from our door. The local fishermans wife Martina , runs a small fish shop on the pier behind the pub offering a selection of fresh shell fish every day and at weekends she has a slection of other fish such as seabass ,salmon ,plaice etc. A short distance from the pub is an art gallery and pottery shop where the pottery is made. One of the owners had her origins in Italy and offers for sale a choice of organic wines and food imported from Italy and mostly produced by her own family. Within a half mile from the house is an area called 'The Flaggy Shore'. Here you have a small sandy beach , ideal for swimming and the start of a fabulous walking route along The Flaggy Shore where you can do a three mile loop taking the scenery of Galway Bay and passing by Lough Murree, a small fresh water lake , home to swans , ducks and other bird life and yet is only seperated from the sea by not much more than 100 feet of land. The house is ideally located for taking in all the scenery and attractions Clare and the surrounding counties have to offer. Galway , the City of the Tribes and the market town of Ennis are less than a forty minute drive while Shannon International Airport and Bunratty Medieval Castle and Folk Park are just an hour away.

Great place with an amazing view and convenient to many places in western Ireland. Seamus was thorough at explaining everything and responsive. Highly recommend
As a family of 12, we spent a week at this beautiful location. It was a welcoming space to come home to after a long day of activities across Ireland. There was more than enough space for all of us and not feel like we were on top of each other. The restaurant located just a very short walk away was one of our dining highlights and as dog lovers, the two dogs across from the house were a pleasure to spoil with treats as we came in and out of the driveway. Seamus was very communicative and there were no surprises once we arrived. We would definitely stay again if we have the opportunity!
Couldn’t have been happier with the property and Seamus, our host. He was very upfront about our responsibility to pay for oil usage. As a VRBO member, I completely understand the need to do this to minimize people wasting energy. I would include it in my fee using a best guess philosophy. We had a wonderful stay and Seamus was a wonderful host.
The Lisheen House was a perfect home for our family holiday. The location is perfect for day outings. The house is beautiful and comfortable. We look forward to going back again soon! Seamus made the process so easy and was very welcoming!
Excellent property - spacious, well equipped & great location. The fact that you've got one of the best seafood restaurants just 100m walk down to the pier, and a swimming beach nearby makes it all the more special. Recommended.
What a cute place to stay for our fall trip to Ireland. This was a perfect place during our time in the west. Quite centrally located if your goal is to hit several places in the west over a several days stay. The place is huge! I can imagine family vacations or multi family groups. Everything you are going to need in the kitchen. Charming.
Our family of 10 stayed here for 3 nights and had the most wonderful experience. The house had everything we needed and the location was perfect. The owners were fabulous and very accommodating. We would highly recommending this rental to anyone. 10/10
It was really nice to stay at seamus’ place. It was very spacious, clean and organized. The questions we had were answered promptly and we had a great stay.
Fabulous stay, house has everything you need, so clean and spacious ideal for a group, would highly recommend a stay. Lovely little pub/restaurant just a few steps down the road
This is an outstanding property. We were 9 guests and there were more than adequate bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces. The vistas from every corner of the house and the proximity to great restaurants, sightseeing and Galway City made for a wonderful vacation. Seamus is the consummate host. His communication and desire to ensure everyone was satisfied was much appreciated. We can’t wait to return for another family gathering.
"We had an amazing stay at this beautiful home! The location is absolutely perfect—close to everything yet peaceful and relaxing. The house itself is gorgeous, well-maintained, and equipped with everything we needed. The host was incredibly responsive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for comfort and convenience!"
The house was perfect for our family trip! My only regret is we were so busy we didn’t get to enjoy the house enough!! The washer and dryer were a huge help!!!
We had a large group of cousins who enjoyed our stay at Lisheen House. The property was perfect and the directions Seamus left were very detailed. We loved Linannes Restaurant just a short walk down the lane.
The property is in an ideal location for visiting the west coast and many of the wonderful sights Ireland has to offer. Host was amazing! We were welcomed with great detail and warmth. Family almost wanted to stay in rather than go explore as the house is amazing inside and out.
If you’re planning a trip with a large family, this is the property for you.
Great property well suited to a holiday with the extended family
We had a lovely week at Lisheen house. The house is very well set up and equipped for large family groups, with a great location for nearby beaches, Kinvarra and Ballyvaughan. The upstairs lounge is a particularly great spot for watching the sun set over the connemara mountains. The kids really enjoyed the large private garden.

About the host
Hosted by Seamus Marlborough
I was raised on a dairy farm that was unique in that we processed and packaged the milk ourselves and distributed it throughout much of County Clare. We sold that side of the business in 1998 but we still live on the farm where we now raise beef cattle. When I married my wife Mary, we built a new home on the farm and since then we totally renovated the old farm house I grew up in and started doing self catering. We now have three beautiful homes in different locations for self catering and enjoy meeting new faces all the time.
Why they chose this property
We loved the Burren National Park and spent most of free time driving or walking through it. We had a special love of the New Quay area because of the scenery and fabulous walking routes around it. In 1999 we started looking for a piece of land in the area that we could build a house on. Eventually we found this great site with views of the ocean and only three hundred yards from the local pub and restaurant. We went to an American architect who lived locally and between us we designed what we now call Lisheen House.
What makes this property unique
There are several benefits choosing this house. With its great space and two living rooms, one normally finds when families are staying with children, the children find their own space in the upstairs living room, leaving the adults free to do their own thing in the downstairs living area which is all part of the kitchen dining area allowing them to enjoy a drink and relax, while still keeping an eye on what is cooking at the same time. The location of the house is another benefit, the peace and quiet of the area and yet its proximity to the local pub / restaurant, harbour , sandy beech, beautiful walks , historic features and much more.
