An 18th-century Grade II listed fisherman’s cottage apartment set on The Cragg, one of Whitby’s most atmospheric and historic streets, with uninterrupted sea, harbour and Whitby Abbey views from every room.
Tucked away in a very quiet elevated position above the harbour, the property offers a rare combination of peace and central location. From sunrise over the sea to the lights of the harbour at night, the views are truly exceptional.

About the host
Hosted by Alan Davidson
I have been letting cottages that I own in Whitby since 2008, and over the years I have built up a real affection for the town, its history and its people.
Whitby is one of the most beautiful old fishing towns in the country, with its harbour, narrow streets, historic yards and unique atmosphere. I love spending time there myself, which is a big part of why I enjoy hosting guests.
As a host, my aim is to offer a comfortable, characterful place to stay where guests can enjoy the real Whitby — not just the main attractions, but the feeling of being part of the old town.
Why they chose this property
Whitby has a rare mix of history, character and atmosphere. The old town, harbour, abbey, beaches, independent shops, restaurants and pubs are all close together, which makes it a wonderful place to explore on foot.
I particularly like the older yards and hidden corners of Whitby, where you still get a strong sense of the town’s fishing history. Endeavour Cottage is in one of those special places — tucked away and peaceful, but still just a short walk from the harbour and the heart of the old town.
What makes this property unique
Endeavour Cottage is a traditional 200-year-old fisherman’s cottage set in a quiet historic yard in the heart of Whitby’s old town. The setting is one of its strongest features: a peaceful cul-de-sac of just six cottages, with no passing foot traffic, yet only a short stroll from the harbour, shops, restaurants and main attractions.
The cottage is double-fronted, which gives it a more spacious and open feel than many older Whitby cottages, while still retaining its period character. It is best suited to guests who value history, charm and a unique location rather than modern hotel-style accommodation.
