Stylish and old-world home minutes from city yet surrounded in green and country
This is a family home, with a small library and an eclectic art collection. The dining room can host at least 8 people and is attached to a fully-equipped kitchen, which opens to a South-facing back garden, protected from chilly winds and a real sun-trap. Great for outdoor dining when the weather behaves!
Our home is on a quiet street facing the amazing Queen's Park and Arthur's Seat. It is just a few minutes walk to numerous shops, restaurants, pubs and public transport links to the city centre. It take about 20 minutes to walk to Waverly train station, Princess Street, and Edinburgh Castle. It is around 10 minutes walk to the University where many of the Edinburgh Fringe events take place.
From the airport the drive is around 30 minutes, while taxi from the train station is less than ten mins.

This was a very comfortable place for us to stay with family members, with lots of interesting places to explore within walking distance. Also a very nice place to hang around and be inside together in the rainy weather!
Incredible property, very well accommodated with a fully stocked kitchen, gorgoeus rooms ans a backyard! A pleasure to be in the heart of edinburgh- beautifully hosted house by Magnus, 10/10 would recommend.
Beyond our wildest expectations. This home is charming, warm, easy to relax, and a perfect place to use as a base camp for exploring a wonderful city. The location is hard to over hype, as you are staying in the entrance to the wonderful park on one side, and the city on the other. The host was tremendous to work with, and made out stay so incredibly easy and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone looking for a place in Edinburgh.
This was a great place to stay for a few days while in Edinburgh. Right at the base of Authors Seat and a quick walk to lots of attractions. The owner was responsive and the house was as described.
Magnus was a wonderful host, and his place has so much charm and character. We enjoyed the library, garden, and proximity to Holyrood Park. We were there during the Fringe and Edinburgh had an amazing energy. Magnus' place is close to everything but also just off the beaten path. A perfect stay!
Magnus has a fabulous home situated conveniently by Arthur’s Seat and easy access to the Royal Mile. The house is a wonderful home and Magnus was very responsive.
Fantastic location, cozy and eclectic cottage with lots of room and nice personal touches. Easy walk to Old Town, New Town, Uni and enjoyed morning walks at the base of Arthur’s Seat. Fully stocked kitchen that we used each day. Nice to have two full bathrooms.
The location of this house is great; you are on a quiet street looking out at one of Edinburgh’s beautiful hills, but you’re within walking distance of everything you’d want to see in the city. The house itself provides everything you’ll need to be comfortable in a very cool-ly decorated space. Magnus is a great host, would absolutely stay here again.
This is a really cool place to stay that is so close to everything! Only a half hour walk to Edinburgh Castle with great places to see in between! We did not find parking near so we had to pay for nearby parking. I would highly recommend this home if you are visiting Edinburgh.
Magnus was magnificently accommodating, allowing us to store our luggage before/after check-in/out! The house is beautiful and my adult children all discovered their love for piano-playing. The location is amazing with the city on one side and the Holyrood park out the front door. I would highly recommend staying here and appreciate Magnus’ hospitality!
We were so fortunate to have found this home. We really enjoyed our stay. The location was on a very quiet street and was about a 20 minute walk from many of the major tourist sites. We enjoyed cooking some of our meals in the kitchen which had all of the equipment that we needed. The home was clean, comfortable and cozy and Magnus was very responsive and helpful.
We had the most wonderful time in Edinburgh—4 perfect days staying at on the edge of Holyrood park near the distillery. This home is exactly as billed, very cozy yet spacious, art everywhere including the door knocker and drawer handles. All lovingly done. The location is perfect, whether you want to hike to Arthur’s seat out the front door or go exploring in the city. Our host Magnus was easy to communicate with and instructions were very clear. Would highly recommend!
Hi, I'm Magnus, I love being in Edinburgh but I mostly work overseas supporting refugees and people displaced by disasters and conflict. I like to be a host because we love our home and would like to share when we are not there.
Tragically, my fiancée and life partner Kasha Rigby died in February 2023 in a skiing accident in Kosovo. Since then I have dedicated my life to starting a new organisation to take forward our shared dream - of bringing sports and physical education to people stuck in displacement - refugees and people that have few options in life. We had found that sports can really change people's lives for the better if it is well coordinated. For this reason, I will be away from my home more that I'd planned, in the next few years.

Why they chose this property
I like the area where we live because we are so close to nature in front and vibrant city just a few minutes walk away. I can walk to the train station and use buses to get anywhere in the city.
I also appreciate the local community - there are often art, music or market events happening in our area. It is a mixture of family residents and students from around the world. There are so many small local shops, cafes and restaurants in our community we are spoilt for choice!
There is an Olympic-size swimming pool and great gym - the Commonwealth Pool - just around the corner. But the real wonder is to be beside Arthur's Seat, which offers hundreds of different walks or jogging paths. It's so close - just outside the front door and can be a great way to start (or end) the daylight hours.
What makes this property unique
I have collected furniture and carpets from around the world and a diverse, eclectic selection of art which we hope you enjoy.
The back garden is a real sun trap. We have built a nice wooden table there and there are seats for quite a few people, we think this really makes this property unique. In summer there is often light there till quite late, so it's nice to relax and eat there in the evening. We also enjoy having breakfast there in the morning sun.
There is a little fire pit outside - and a wood burning stove in the sitting room upstairs. Feel free to take some dry firewood from the left hand shed in the garden. There should be fire-starting lighters beside the sitting room fire place.
