Cozy Cottage with Guest House, 15 minute walk to the beach and Pet Friendly.
This cottage is set up for a perfect vacation for a small group in all seasons! The kitchen is top-notch, well stocked and fun to cook in. The hardwood floors bring the woods inside and the gas fireplace in the winter makes it easy to curl up with a book. Each room has its own bathroom; the cottage is designed with privacy in mind. Unusual for a home in the woods to have a front lawn, but we do, which we use for games. The backyard is fenced in: there is a grill and a portable campfire, an outdoor dining table and outdoor furniture--a perfect outdoor living room. The snow in Michiana Shores is beautiful in the winter. The trees are somber in the fall. This is an all year get-a-away whether you are looking for beach time, cross-country skiing, canoeing, hiking or tennis.
We have a new guest house that has two bedrooms and a full bath and perfect for a family with children. There is an additional fee for this. If you have a larger group and want to know more, please message me.
Lake Michigan is a five minute bike ride away or a 15 minute walk. We have two ten-speed bikes for your use.

We had a great girls weekend here! If you like camping, hiking in the woods, and relaxing on a quiet beach, this is perfect for you! If you enjoy high class hotels and beaches with lots of action, keep looking. This was about a mile walk in a pretty wooded neighborhood with hills. Not necessarily an easy walk, but doable. Be ready for lots of bugs, biting flies, spiders, webs, etc. But we also saw lots of deer, including a baby! The house is well stocked with everything you need except for sheets. We did a pick up grocery order at Al’s on Karwick. Also, you can park your car for 15 minutes by the beach to load/unload your stuff. This was our first time at Lake Michigan and it was BEAUTIFUL. We would stay here again, but would love an option to rent a golf cart!
The cottage was indeed cozy, very clean and comfortable. A really big plus was the great fenced in, private backyard yard with lovely conversation seating. Thank goodness for a small, but clean basement area to sit out tornado warnings!
The location was great allowing easy access to New Buffalo or Michigan City.
Communication with the property owner was minimal, but received a prompt response when needed.
I would definitely refer someone to the property or check its availability if returning to the area.
Charming, perfectly sized cottage for four. Well supplied kitchen for cooking. Quiet neighborhood. Very comfortable outdoor furniture to enjoy in the private, shaded backyard. Great location for exploring surrounding area. Really appreciated the supplied beach chairs, wagon and boogie boards. Had some problems with smart tv, but owner very responsive and the issue was resolved.
We would definitely return to the cottage.
This was our very first trip to the area, and it did not disappoint. The neighborhood was like walking through a fairy tale forest with a beach at the end. The beaches along Lake Michigan are stunning, and there are plenty of places to hike, bike, and run in the community. There is a little nature trail a short walk from the cottage that is a hidden gem. Indiana Dunes parks are only about 15 -20 min drive, and there are shopping areas and restaurants close by. Michiana Shores is a very pet friendly community - dogs are welcome at the parks and on the beaches before / after certain times. The cottage is a short walk to the beach- we are both very active and have a high fitness level, so for us, the walk to / from the beach was very enjoyable .
This cottage was absolutely amazing and perfect for the two of us and our two small dogs. It has everything you need- the kitchen is well equipped, the fenced-in yard was great for our furbabies, and Catherine has beach equipment -chairs / umbrella/ cart available for guests to use. The cottage is very clean, well-cared for, and stocked with some initial essentials to get started.
We brought our own sheets / towels to cover the couch / chairs in order to keep the furniture free of dog hair.
Catherine is a lovely host, and very easy to work with. She gave us alot of information on the area, and all of the stores and restaurants were easy to find.
We had a magical vacation, and are planning to come back soon.
Thank you, Catherine!!
We had a wonderful time. The porch was a wonderful place to hang out. Except for the bees nest on the front porch. It was perfect.
There was so much to do up there. They had bicycles and ping-pong ! The lighthouse mall was also great fun. A wonderful time was had by all.
Wonderful little cottage in a nice woodsy area. The walk to the beach was refreshing. We saw deer, beautiful homes, friendly people, and of course the amazing beach and Lake Michigan! It’s
close to New Buffalo which boasts fun shops, restaurants, and of course Oinks ice cream parlor. We also visited Silver Beach and St Joseph. We will be back!
Cute cottage with everything you need for a fun vacation. Owner had wagon, beach chairs and umbrella for our use. We spent a day at Indiana dunes state park beach. Very nice! Two bathrooms a plus for four women. Nice background area to relax in. We would come back in a heartbeat!
We were looking for a pet friendly property and this one was perfect. It is located in a quite, woodsy neighborhood and we enjoyed the back deck and front porch. Shopping and trips to the beach are near by. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a nice, cozy getaway.
This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this marvelous cottage. The proximity to the beaches and restaurants is wonderful. I can’t thank Catherine enough for allowing dogs to stay. The fenced in yard was enjoyed by my dog, along with the proximity to Warren Dunes which is rated one of the best dog friendly beaches in the country! Then place is impeccably clean and has 2 full bathrooms. It was a great vacation.
This was our second stay in Catherine's cottage. We just love the area and have been coming for many years. Catherine's home is so comfortable, the yard is private, the cottage has everything you need, just remember to bring your sheets. Great communication too.
The House was everything we wanted The fenced in backyard was great for our little dogs The kitchen was nicely furnished as was the whole house.
First time visiting the Great Lakes and the location was perfect. We got to Wrigley Field Cubs won Close to South Bend watched the minor league Cubs. The lake was amazing
Would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for relaxed setting with lots to do
As advertised- clean, comfortable in a nice neighborhood and great location! Well supplied, but don't forget your sheets.
Short ride to the Indiana Dunes NP or Warren Dunes SP for hiking and scenery, great walk along the beach and out to the lighthouse in Michigan City and only a few minutes north to Michigan- New Buffalo and some great wineries, breweries and restaurants. Enjoyed our time up there!
My boyfriend and I along with our two dogs had a very quiet, relaxing weekend at the Cottage. The Cottage was in a very beautiful neighborhood, it felt like we were staying in the woods, it has a fenced in backyard which was perfect for our dogs to play in, we felt very comfortable there. We spent a lot of time out in the backyard, went for a couple hikes at Warren Woods and through the neighborhood, other than we just enjoyed ourselves at the house.
Being very familiar with the area, I was delighted to find Catherine’s rental. Having two full bathrooms was a big plus. The house is nicely up-to-date, the back deck is spacious and comfortable and we loved playing ping-pong in the garage! It’s on a dead-end street, so it’s super quiet, and the beach is less than a mile away. We really hope to come back next year! The only thing I would want to add would be a screen door. The wifi worked great too!
This place was wonderful. Everything you could need was here. An impeccably updated clean cottage equipped with all the comforts, including a washer/dryer, beach chairs, and bicycles. This place is located right between Michigan City and New Buffalo. The cottage is in the prefect wooded lot with a fenced in yard. The neighborhood it’s located in is so neat, the hills back in the woods. Oh and if you visit you must drive down to the end of the neighborhood on Michiana Drive for the most beautiful lake views and sunset.
The house is very clean and well stocked with supplies. Location is great and we enjoyed visiting South Haven and Warren Dunes. Catherine is very nice to work with. A few things to note: (1) The nearest beach does not have bathroom facilities so we took our kids to nearby state parks most of the time. (2) There is no cable TV but wifi works well. (3) You need to bring your own bed sheets. We don't have twin sheets at home so Catherine did let us use the ones at the house. The backyard is fenced in which is great for our little dog to run around. There is a portable file pit and we enjoyed making smores with kids. Overall, we had a peaceful and relaxing week. Would love to stay here again.
Catherine's cottage was the perfect size for myself, my husband, and our son and daughter-in-law and their small dog. The cottage was clean and comfortable, and in a great location.
Perfect getaway house, nice decor, comfortable, well stocked kitchen (we missed a toaster but the broiler worked fine!), quiet peaceful neighborhood, deer, birds. Only bummer was the beach in this area is closed due to erosion. There is a public access beach at the north end of Lake Shore Dr.
Peace and quietWhat is the plan with throwing in some activities of biking and enjoying the sand in Shores, we were able to do just that. I enjoyed some nice biking and my sister enjoyed the quietness of the cabin and neighborhood as well as the beach. We appreciated all the amenities.

About the host

I have spent nearly every summer somewhere along the Lake Michigan shore. My husband grew up near a lake in Up-State New York. We both are community college professors who believe people need to get away from their daily work and come to the woods. We are amateur naturalists, and enjoy learning about the dunal woods and it's inhabitants.
Why they chose this property
We have always wanted a cottage within driving distance from our home down state. I dreamed of being further north, but if we were going to spend time at our little cottage, we knew it needed to be close. Michigana Shores is beautiful. We like the quiet, the proximity to the lake, the tennis courts nearby and places to cross-country ski. We like that there is canoeing and hiking nearby. We like what we have come to call "cottage time" that we enter once we arrive.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with this little cottage because of it's location, our neighbors and because this cottage had been well taken-care of. The wood floors glow, the modern kitchen and baths are nicer than what we have at home, the comfortable beds, the nights that cool down in the summer, and the snow in the winter! There can be so much unreported lake effect snow--all said this was a place where we could be comfortable.
