A peaceful getaway ideal for 1 or 2 couples, the Edelweiss is in the Chugach National Forest, surrounded by acres of trees, with Kenai Lake just steps away! Perfectly situated for touring the area: 20 miles to Seward or 25 miles to Cooper Landing. Enjoy the screened-in porch, deck, lakeshore, and the outdoor wood stove. A spacious living/dining room with mountain and lake views is warmed with a gas wood stove. Large well-appointed kitchen has a dishwasher and double ovens. King bedroom has en suite bath with walk-in shower. Queen bedroom has its bath and closet across the hall. Handmade soaps and Alaskan art pieces put this comfortable home on the Alaskan side of elegant! We look forward to meeting you! The rate is for 2 guests (ideal for honeymoon or couple's getaway!); your 3rd and 4th guests are an add'l $95 per person per night. No other fees. 3-night minimum stay. Adults only. No wifi.

This home on the lake was over the top! Mark and Dawn made sure we had everything we needed down to firewood for the firepit. Home was so amazing we didn't want to venture out. Thank you for such an awesome stay!!

Alaska bliss on a gorgeous glacier blue lake

Loved this property inside and out! Especially enjoyed walking the well kept trails to bird watch and explore the lake scenery and river’s edge; appreciated the stocked and very clean kitchen to cook up our halibut catch of the day; always love a hassle-free check in, and valued our hosts’ kindness, generosity and attention to detail. This is truly a PRIVATE Lakefront home. It was well equipped, comfortable and clean. The hosts Mark and Dawn were so hospitable. After giving us time to settle in they stopped by and told us about the history of the house and showed us were everything was. They gave us great information on activities, dining locations and hiking trails.Great house and Great Hosts!

It was incredible. Dawn and Mark were extremely communicative from months before the trip to during our actual stay. We were given countless recommendations and tips for vacationing in Alaska. The place was immaculate and the attention to detail and design was highly aesthetic. Dawn even baked scones for us on our last morning. We cannot recommend this cabin enough!

Beautiful Cabin on a beautiful lake

This cabin did not disappoint! We enjoyed everything about this cabin! We hiked around the cabin, panned for gold, and enjoyed the view of the lake! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The host was so kind and we took their advice when picking where to eat in Steward. We would definitely stay here again!

Could not have had a better stay. The hosts were more than accommodating. We even saw a grizzly bear our second day there. The house is immaculate and the views from the window breathtaking. We had perfect weather, and it became perfect homebase for all the activities we wanted to do.

Amazingly Peaceful

This property was pristine. Dawn made the check in and checkout seamless. It was refreshing to not have wifi and be off the grid digitally, but have every comfort of home. The home had everything one would want; coffee, soap, utensils, etc. and they provided a wonderful gift basket to help make you feel at home. The view overlooking the lake was priceless and not seeing any other homes or people was amazingly peaceful and private. Dawn and Mark treat you like their house guests and their hospitality was second to none. Thank you!

A slice of heaven

We stayed at Edelweiss house 4 days/3 nights and wish we could have stayed twice as long. The lake views and forest are like a postcard. The house was warm, inviting and the hosts had many special touches to make our stay absolutely perfect. This is a treasure!

Amazing house with beautiful views

Dawn and Mark are absolutely amazing! They are such nice hosts. The house itself is very nice, a lot of detailed designs. The house is also super clean, all the towels, bed sheets are more clean than any hotels. The only thing that needs to be noted is there is no Wi-Fi and the phone signal is very bad. We actually enjoyed it however, for some people it might be a downside. Overall, highly recommended.

Kenai Lake heaven

This property is so amazing. We showed up early evening and there were accent lights on throughout the home, so welcoming. A gift basket with snacks/wine. The homes pics dont do it justice, very clean, everything including windows were spotless inside and out which was amazing as the view to the lake was breath taking. And need to also mention how wonderful the mattress/pillows/towels were. Mark and Dawn definitely know how to pamper people. Hope to someday make it back as we would not consider staying anywhere else. Lovely folks, and the going away scones....to die for!!

Truly Extraordinary

It is hard to summarize the absolute charm of this amazing hidden oasis. The pictures are beautiful but the experience is even better. You will love the fairytale-like views of the back yard as you make your way through moss and driftwood to the lakeshore which is surrounded by stunning mountains. Even more amazing than the property itself are the owners. Mark and Dawn went out of their way to make our Alaskan experience everything we hoped for. Prior to our stay, they provided us with details about what to expect regarding travel, weather, hiking conditions, etc. They left us personalized notes and treats, and even continued to provide excellent suggestions and knowledge about our next destination, even after we had already left. I cannot recommend this experience enough. It truly added to the entire first time Alaskan experience for us.

Lakefront Beauty near Seward

The cabin home is beautiful inside and out. Super clean and well maintained in every way. A great place to stay in a great location. From the cabin you see no neighbors and nothing but beauty. Quality quality quality -from towels to furnishings to include all your kitchen needs. The hosts, Mark and Dawn, provided a nicely stocked welcome basket, a great selection of coffees, and half n half! Really nice and thoughtful. Thank you! Mark and Dawn came over and introduced themselves and we had a nice conversation, that included the topic of a young brown bear that visited earlier in the day. If we were to ask for anything more - it would be that they add wifi capabilities. With a college student doing summer classes online and our business dealings -we missed the ease of timely and efficient communication. Resurrection Coffee House in Seward filled the need and was a nice hangout. Yes we want it all! Remote beauty and wifi 😆 oh well. We had a great stay and we would definitely look forward to another stay.

This was the best home that we've ever stayed at! We loved everything about it! Not only was the home perfect but the hosts were also the best. Dawn went above and beyond in providing lots of info and answering any questions that we had about the area. She also provided lots of info about activities that we were interested in as well. We've never had an experience with such thorough hosts. The little details that they put into making this stay wonderful didn't go unnoticed and was very much appreciated. The lake fronting the home is breathtaking! We also loved the screened in porch where we could be "outside" but still safe from mosquitoes. Loved the gas fireplace also...instant fire and warmth! The view from in the home was also beautiful. While part of our family went out to fish, the rest of us didn't feel like we were wasting any time while we relaxed back at the home and took in the beautiful views. The little details that Mark and Dawn put into our stay made it so special...a beautiful welcome basket, a selection of coffee, teas, and hot chocolate, scones that were freshly baked when we checked out, beautiful fresh flowers for us to enjoy, pans to go gold panning at the creek nearby, a great selection of books to choose to read next to the fireplace, cozy warm throw blankets that we could use on cold days, even a selection of different pillows for for everyone's different preferences! This place was perfect! Would recommend and stay here again in a heartbeat!

Million Dollar View

This was our last stop on a 2 week “land cruise “ of Alaska and Edelweiss did not disappoint. All the special touches ie. welcome basket, well stocked kitchen with a variety of Keurig coffee pods and creamer in the refrigerator, laundry detergent and makeup remover pads to name just a few. The home was clean and spacious and beds comfortable. Great location for easy access to nearby hiking trails and downtown Seward was a 20 minute drive away. Thank you Mark and Dawn

Both Mark and Dawn grew up near Chicago, somewhere between farm fields, Lincoln historical sites, the Chicago Symphony, and Fermilab. Mark moved to this area of Alaska with his family almost 50 years ago, thrilled to leave the city behind. Mark's father emigrated to America from Switzerland as a young man (hence the Swiss connection and Edelweiss name) and ventured to Alaska in 1973 with his family to make it home. Mark and Dawn have been married for 35 years, and have two grown children who work with us in our printing/graphic design business. We thrive on enjoying boating and fishing, hiking, mushrooming, berry picking, hunting, 4-wheelers, snow machines, x-country skiing... as well as being lovers of local fare, a perfect cup of espresso, and sitting at evening fires by the lake!

Why they chose this property

You're within a few minutes of wonderful hiking trails: Victor Creek, Lost Lake, Vagt Lake, Grayling Lake, Johnson Pass, Ptarmigan Lake, to name a few. You're in the middle of all the great fishing grounds. You're surrounded by mountains and trees and amazing fresh air, birds, and the unique glacial blue color of Kenai Lake. You're on the road system, so can be in Anchorage in 2 hours, or in Seward in a 25-minute drive, or in Cooper Landing in a 25-minute drive. And you're on multiple acres of private, wooded forest where you can stroll on our own trails or sit in peace and quiet.

What makes this property unique

This property is historic, the original homestead of Alaska's first registered hunting guide, Andy Simons. There is a mountain nearby named after him. When the lake level is lower in the spring and fall, you can see the foundation of his cabin destroyed in the 1964 earthquake, and remnants of his home sometimes appear... we've found lots of "useless treasures" over the years!
