Beautiful place

Absolutely beautiful property perfect for large groups. Close enough to Galway and other destinations with the charm of the local village. Wonderful!

Charming town with friendly residents

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Plenty of room in the house! It was an easy walk into town which we really took advantage of to catch bus to Galway or for dinner or AM coffees. Great food and pub life here. Highly recommend (would have loved to stay longer) Many thanks for the hospitality!

They took out deposit with zero communication. We booked and paid half, they didn’t contact us for the further payment, just took the deposit and cancelled without notice, ruined our joint family reunion, then kept the large deposit.

Family trip

The home was large and accomodating and the grounds are beautiful. We had a little hiccup checking in and the host could not have been nicer in trying to rectify the situation. It's a very quick walk to town with plenty of restaurants, pubs, grocery etc. All in all a lovely vacation.

Wonderful experience!

WellPark was exactly as advertised! Very roomy and inviting, with a family kitchen and sunroom, that my family of 7 enjoyed. Oughterard is a very easy walk, with a few small sops , pubs and restaurants. I would especially recommend the Greenway Cafe! We hope to be able to visit again.

Perfect Irish country estate

We had a superb stay at Wellpark House. The home is charming and historic, with beautiful grounds. It's a short easy walk into Oughterard, which has everything most people will need--multiple nice pubs and restaurants, a decent grocery store, a good butcher, several other nice little shops, and Catholic and Anglican churches. Mary, the caretaker for the house, is extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

Week at Wellpark

Perfect location and size for our 10 adult group. We prepared an evening meal twice in Kitchen and grill area. Plenty of kitchen utilities and place settings. Visited Conermara National Park,Kylemore Abby played golf 2 days shoped in Oughterard and visited pubs all great fun. Roundstone was a great find. Bedding could be fresher

Superb stay

Beautiful home & location , toured most days returning for Leisurely dinners / bbqs , great location , house, garden -well equipped didn’t lack anything. All comforts available . Dined at boat inn , oughterard - lovely and lunched at Baidin in clifden beach - fab . Swam at beautiful Finny lakeside beach , walked in Cong forest, glenagowna mines , aughnure castle , great lunch and day at brigit’s gardens, zipped and climbed walls at wildlands , cycled greenway section mulranny to achill return . Loads to do and lovely house to return to

Birthday celebration

Fabulous property. There were 10 of us, three generations and all had a ball. Big extended family party catered by Patrick at Connemara caterers, was a big success. A lovely ginger cat was a frequent visitor during our stay adding a lovely extra dimension. Big thank you to Mary’s for going the extra mile to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves, especially the footballers! Visited Clifden, Kylemore Abbey, some beautiful beaches, pubs and restaurants. Beautiful memories for everyone who was part of this celebration. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Great location for exploring the region. Walking distance to pubs, restaurants and local shops.

We were a family group of 10, with three generations. The house is very large so plenty of room for all to enjoy different activities or just to relax in their own way. The garden is beautiful and the apples from the tree were delicious! There are beautiful walks along the river just outside the house, and lots of activities nearby such as cycling, fishing etc. We explored the whole region and the house was perfectly located. The owner provides a great information pack after the booking is made and we followed nearly all of her recommendations! All of the restaurants we visited in Oughterard were of a high quality. The only negative is that the kitchen and bathrooms need upgrading. They are fully functional and the kitchen is well equipped but all are a bit tired. However, this would not prevnt me from booking to stay at Wellpark again. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Wellpark review

This georgian house is impressive but in great need of some TLC. Mary the house keeper/property manager does a great job of keeping it clean and tidy but there are serious things that need addressing in order to maintain the house: the house has damp - stained peeling wallpaper shows this, as do the mushrooms growing out the beam by the front door. I'd urge the owner to get this under control before it takes hold of the property. A few features in the description are untrue: there is no games room - a disppointment for the 5 kids in our party; the TV does not work - it needs to be tuned; the playpark is not in the ground of the house but in the village. All of this aside, we had an amazing stay. The area is stunning, the people friendly and weather was kind to us. Would we stay at wellpark again? Probably not, but we'll certainly be back to the area.

Mary, the caretaker was great. She took action on our concerns immediately.

This was our second stay at Wellpark. It’s location is ideal and offers many bedrooms and a large yard for little travelers. The owner had done some improvements and they were lovely. The only issue we had was with the upstairs shower, and Mary had the plumber come right out. However, I think the unit that controls the water needs to be replaced. This property is very close to the village which offers excellent restaurants & pubs. Don’t miss eating at the Greenway Cafe (make reservations!) and Powers has good food and pub fare. There is a nice children’s park at the entrance to Oughterard. There is a new ‘boutique’ grocer, Sullivan’s’ that is a nice addition to the other grocers. Don’t miss popping into Keogh’s for a fine selection of everything Irish to take home with you. All in all, we love Oughterard & staying at Wellpark! I hope we get to return, again.

Did not meet our expectations

We planned for over a year for our family trip to Ireland, 9 of us (4 grandchildren) a special vacation, and we reserved the house for 5 nights. Upon arrival, the house exterior presents poorly; appears poorly maintained from the outside, lowering expectations for the inside. However, the entire grounds are impressively maintained and landscaped, the grandchildren enjoyed playing on the private well-protected grounds. Mary the housekeeper works hard to keep the house clean. She is a real asset to the house and the owner. The location is a short walk to the town for restaurants & pubs. It is well located for touring parts of western Ireland, especially Galway and Connemara. The bus stop is convenient to the house and an easy ride to Galway City. The house smells musty and moldy, especially in the living and dining rooms. We had issues with 2 of the 3 toilets. The house needs maintenance and reinvestment. Our stay did not meet our expectations and could have been better. Require coins to pay for the electricity. Very frustrating! One of the three bathrooms functions well. One had flushing issues, and one had a seat that would not stay up for men. The kitchen is well equipped; however, the coffee maker doesn’t work (kept overflowing). Overall, if you are handy and can adjust expectations, the house works OK for a large family with plenty of beds and bedrooms. However, we would not recommend it to anyone who has allergies or breathing issues.

Terrible, Stay Away

While the house had character, it was a disaster. The day we arrive there was no electricity to the house- no power, no water, no heat. The house manager, Mary, got an emergency electrician to come out. This restored only partial power to the house. Despite NUMEROUS attempts to contact Mary, Gerladine (the owner) and hours on the phone with VRBO customer support, the issues were never resolved. 1. The House: We never had working kitchen appliances, working laundry services, only 1 working bathroom and shower with warm water for 12 people, outlets that only worked on the first level in 2 of the 5 rooms and thus inability to charge electronics sufficiently, inadequate heat as there were space heaters in the bedrooms, but they didn't work as the outlets didn't work. No working kitchen appliances nor laundry. The electrician said the lines from the county to the house were in bad repair and were actually sparking against the house and may cause a house fire. 2. The host- The house manager, Mary, was never able to contact the host. VRBO was never able to contact the host. We were never able to contact the host. So that avenue for assistance was a dud. 3. VRBO- After spending numerous hours on the phone they finally escalated the case to rehoming. The rehoming team never contacted us, and we were never able to get new placement. Their customer service was horrendous and made us feel unsupported. We're seeking a refund at this time. Don't stay here.

Der Aufenthalt war für uns sehr schön und zufrieden. Bei der Ankunft haben wir den Schlüssel gefunden, aber die Fronttüre liess sich nicht öffnen. Nur mit aller Gewalt konnten wir die Türe öffnen, sie war total verklemmt und einer meiner Freunde ist Schreiner, der konnte die Türe mit schleifen und schaben wieder einpassen. Der Aufwand war einige Stunden, die Herstellung durch einen Fachmann in Auftrag wäre ein grösserer Betrag angefallen. Ich kenne das Haus und war schon in den Jahren 1997 und 1999 für je 4 Wochen im Wellpark House. Der Aufenthalt hat uns sehr gefallen, für eine Familie oder eben 6 Freunde war es ideal. 6 Fischerfreunde aus Deutschland und der Schweiz.

Un bon séjour en famille

Nous avons passé un bon séjour dans cette maison traditionnelle irlandaise. Le côté typique traduit par une décoration vieillissante et usée nous a un peu déçu (ensemble négligé et poussiéreux- ménage à parfaire dans la finition). Un renouvellement du mobilier et de cette décoration serait sans doute bienvenu. Le paiement par pièces de l'électricité suivant notre consommation nous a surpris et un peu agacé. (C'était mentionné seulement sur le guide d'arrivée). D'un autre côté, la maison est très spacieuse, les lits confortables. S'asseoir dans la véranda est un vrai bonheur et nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir utiliser le superbe barbecue du jardin très bien entretenu. Mary a été très sympathique et nous avons eu des échanges de qualité avec elle et la propriétaire. Nous recommandons également une soirée au pub Powers Globalement, nous avons tous apprécié notre séjour!

Wonderful space and location. The house desperately needs some upgrading. Too many details to go into (everything from bedding to curtains to walls to ....) but what is required should be obvious to even a casual observer

An older home with some issues, but good location.

Mary was very helpful and accommodating during check-in, and the location just a 10 minute walk from town is great. However due to lots of older rugs, furniture, draperies, etc. in a damp climate, the house is dusty/musty, and I wouldn’t recommend it to those who have any breathing/allergy issues. My sister has asthma that has been well-controlled for many years, and she had an asthma attack on our first night in the house.

This big,old house was like"castle meets country" in atmosphere...But,most importantly,it fit the dozen of us quite comfortably with lovely outside grounds and terrific(walkable) access to nearby town!

100% Irish quaintness

Cute Historical House Conveniently Located Near Town

We were a group of 8 people, ranging in ages 10 - 70, that stayed in the house April 2022. The house was walking distance to everything in town, which was fantastic. It has a beautiful river right across the street. A wonderful back yard and sunroom. We had some confusion with how to calculate the heat usage but the owner and care taker were very responsive and helpful. Overall it was a fantastic stay.

Mary and Geraldine were great help and very nice.

We had a great stay. Only thing that can be improved in and I’m saying this from 40 years of renting vacation homes with my girlfriends is we had to buy more household necessity like paper towel & dish soap. We had a bit of dust and cobwebs but given Covid I’m sure it’s been awhile since anyone stayed there. The house is old but definitely grew on us. Great area and we had a blast with the locals. Powers pub (Fish & Chips)was delicious and enjoyed the music. Great time! Mary was a gem too!

We have a large family, so Wellpark is very family friendly and consequently very well equipped to cater for large groups.
We all look forward to our annual get together to enjoy the comfort of Wellpark and our various Favourite Trips, the superb countryside, and include delightful Irish Pubs and delicious fresh food in our favourite Restaurants. Why they chose this property

Wellpark is unique.
Built in another age it is oth elegant and comfortable. It will cater for 12 guests comfortably. The dining room can be used for table games or for your wi-fi connection. The sitting room has digital TV with plenty of popular channels and will accommodate more guests. The sun room is a favourite for tea in the garden. There is a place for everyone and the garden is spectacular.

What makes this property unique

Wellpark lies in an acre of mature, well kept gardens with a separate fuchsia hedged garden for barbecues.
The large barbecue is hand built in local stone and there is table and seating for all. Try the locally produced lamb chops from Finnerty's, the butcher and their super sausages. Finish off with apple pie & irish Cream, made with apples from the garden!
