The property was absolutely stunning, clean, and had so much history. It was perfect for our group visiting Galway for a few days. Maire went above and beyond to host us and welcome us into the home by accommodating our arrival time, giving us a tour of the home, and even proving us some groceries! We would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Galway!
Roomy, historic property, 15 min walk to DT Galway. Owner was very pleasant who met us personally and offered many personal touches such as muffins, homemade granola, water, coffee, fruit.
Maire was a warm, welcoming, and supportive host, who provided great information about the property and environs. The house was everything and more than we expected. We were a family of six, ranging in age from 8-80! We all had a wonderful time.

It was a joy to meet you all and to have you stay here in Nile Lodge. I cannot thank you all enough for looking after the house so well.
You and your wonderful family will always be exceedingly welcome here again.
Couldn’t ask for a nicer host or a better equipped house. Ideal location. Historic and grand to boot. Lifetime memories for our family. Would love to return.
Terrific house with plenty of room. Accross the river from the town but a short walk or cab ride. Maire is an excellent host. A little surprised that another one of her family was staying there in a separated room but was not a problem. Would go there again!
We loved our stay at this beautiful historic house. It is very lovingly cared for and decorated. It is like stepping back in time and we felt right at home. Would definitely stay again!
Everything about our stay at Nile Lodge was above and beyond expectation! Marie welcomed us like family--and even supplied us with wonderful breakfast treats and excellent suggestions for how to spend our time in Galway. The house is absolutely gorgeous! It's historic and elegant but cozy and set within a quiet private garden, but is within an easy walk to all the main sites of Galway. And its great to have easy and safe parking right out front. I highly recommend!

Our stay at Maria’s beautiful home has raised our standard for the best possible travel experience. Our hostess was warm, kind, and respectful of our privacy. She lavished us with beauty and delicious accoutrements. The house is a well preserved home built with only the highest quality materials and has been lovingly maintained over the years. I have only the highest recommendations for Maria and Nile Lodge.

It was a huge pleasure having such a wonderful family stay, I just wish you all could have stayed for a long holiday. I'm still smiling at the story of the Croac Patrick climb. Anytime you want to come back just let me know and I'll always have a big welcome back for you all. Maire
We had a perfect stay ay Nile Lodge. As the other reviewers have noted, this was our best experience ever renting a property. From the initial communication to leaving on our last day, we had no issues at all. The property itself is well maintained and in a perfect location for day trips or just walking into Galway. Of course, Marie was the perfect host. We enjoyed chatting with her, and she was great at suggestions for trips. The highlight for us was our trip over to Inishmore and the guide Marie arranged for us. We are now thinking about when we can go back.
From the moment we arrived this home exceeded any expectations we had. Maire was the most welcoming, organized, hospitable host ever! The home and yard were absolutely stunning and unforgettable. You will never want to leave (mark my words!) The home was beautiful and roomy with so many options for people to lay and rest in their own corners of the house. I want to thank Maire and scream it from the roof tops that this place and her made our trip and we as a family are so beyond grateful for her generosity and kindness. the nile lodge is like no other. thank you thank you thank you!!

We had a memorable stay at Nile Lodge. The home was beautifully kept with all historical touches. The grounds were perfect for 2 busy children and the home was in excellent walking distance from any sites we wanted to take in in Galway city. About the host
Hosted by Maire MacDermott
I took over the care of this historic house in 1995. I have a great interest of Irish history and culture I have enjoyed hugely looking after this beautiful house and grounds. I very much enjoyed researching the lives of the previous owners of Nile Lodge, especially the Captain and Commander in Nelsons fleet , William Hutchinson of Nelsons fleet who was its first occupant in 1807. The famous Rev Peter Daly, was an equally colorful Galway character and in the 1770s was rector of the beautiful St Nicholas Cathedral in the city center. I love walking the old streets of this city and looking at the pieces of medieval architecture, which can be seen in the beautiful old doorways of Galway. I also enjoy exploring the nearby countryside and love finding special places to explore A brisk walk or jog on the nearby seaside promenade which is the longest in Europe is so good for fitness.
Why they chose this property
This house is a place I have always loved. I am very happy in the location near to the sea and city center and have long enjoyable walks near the sea taking in the beauty of Galway Bay. This house was part of the social life of the people of Galway for many years and it is wonderful to see guests enjoy the comfort that it gives.
What makes this property unique
Beautiful Historic House with a wonderful location, in one of most desirable parts of Galway city. Perfect for guests who want to have their own private luxurious holiday rental. Five minute walking distance to city center and beach. Located perfectly for daytrips ,sightseeing the major attractions of West of Ireland, The Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, The Burren, Kylemore Abbey, The Aran Islands, Bunratty Castle, Ailwee Caves. A fantastic base for exploring the wonderful golf courses of the West of Ireland.
