About this property

1945 Farmhouse Cottage Near Asheville & The Biltmore Estate – Pup friendly!

SWEET RENOVATED 1945 FARMHOUSE
Not too long ago, our sweet Little Yellow Cottage was a diamond in the rough. It had been in disrepair for decades, with bowed walls, broken cabinets, and old carpeting. But when we saw the sunlit rooms and lifted the old carpet to find beautiful aged oak and pine floors, we knew that with a lot of love, creativity, and elbow grease (and a bit of cash) she would shine again and become the beautiful Cottage we knew she could be.

---------------------------------
NOTE: Please take your time and read our listing thoroughly - it's packed with helpful information. Most of your questions will be answered here. Once you book, I will send you a PDF of our very-informative "Welcome Book" - it's full with great info about "Yellow", the area, local restaurants, grocery stores, hiking trails, etc. (There's also a printed copy at the cottage for your reference during your stay.)
---------------------------------

Our sweet Little Yellow Cottage is situated on a large private park-like yard with shade trees, a large fire pit area with plenty of seating, and a big yard for the kids to have a game of kick ball. The new covered porch with romantic lighting, new HVAC, vintage farm-style decor, beautiful new bathroom, lighting and fans, refinished floors, new laundry room with new washer and dryer, and all new furnishings, make the Cottage feel beautiful, new and clean. From the oak kitchen counters we created from antique truck beds to the refinished oak and pine floors, Tom and I worked hard to bring our vision to life so our guests could enjoy this little gem of Asheville.

It's owner-managed and we take pride in doing all the little things to make your stay an amazing experience... a Welcome Gift, treats for your pup if you should bring them along, and more. There's a level driveway for easy parking – rare for these parts. Near Asheville and many local attractions, or comfortable to enjoy just staying in.

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION!
Our Cottage is approximately 15 minutes to the city, another 10 to the entrance of the Biltmore Estate, and about 20 minutes total to just about any wonderful hiking trail and attractions in the Asheville area. About as close as you can get and still have a whole-house rental! Perfect!

CLEAN
This property is Fresh & Clean!
Our Cottage is professionally cleaned thoroughly and thoughtfully after each stay with no same-day turns. So, if you're looking for someplace beautiful, comfortable, CLEAN, and private to get away from the hustle and bustle... you found it!

BEDS
There's comfy beds for 4, but if you'd like to bring your own air mattress and bedding, there's plenty of floor space in the living room to sleep 2 more.

SWEET BATHROOM
Did I mention the beautiful new bathroom? Just cast your eyes on those photos! It’s a beautiful all-new space with toilet (of course) and pedestal sink, large antique mirror, frameless shower door, spacious shower with built-in seat, and shiplap ceiling.

DRIVEWAY
Unlike many other properties in the area, our wide level driveway is easy for navigation and parking. Inclement weather is rarely an issue. That's a reassuring feature if you've ever tried driving up a steep WNC driveway in one of our winter snowstorms!

SUPPLIES
Stocked to get you started... paper towels, tp, coffee, sugar, soaps, and more. If you need more, grocery stores are minutes away.

WELCOME GIFT
I love to offer a Welcome Gift for staying at our Little Yellow Cottage – an assortment of delicious trail mix packets will be waiting for you in the Welcome area. They're great for a quick snack upon arrival, or to take along for a hike. Enjoy!

For those of you bringing your pup, we leave a few doggy treats, a set of bowls in case you forget yours, and a doggy bed so they're just as comfortable as you are.

STAY "HOME"
If you'd like to stay cozied up in your beautiful secluded getaway, grab a sweet tea and enjoy the mountain breezes on the covered porch. Or maybe make s’mores around the big ol’ fire pit while enjoying the laughter of friends and family. Want to keep it simple… relax in the living room with a good book or watch a movie on the 60” smart TV with cable channels – bring your Netflix login!

EXPLORE
Feeling the need to get out a bit? Visit the nearby grounds and gardens of the magnificent Biltmore Estate, drive the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, or hike to one of the area's magnificent waterfalls. So much to do, or nothing at all. The choice is yours!

It's a short drive to Asheville and many local adventures and attractions, but comfortable to enjoy just staying in and relaxing. Use the House as home base while you ski Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway, kayak the French Broad, tube the Green, tour the Biltmore Estate, sample the local shops, restaurants and breweries... whatever makes you smile!

Asheville adventure

Great place, adequate space for two adults and two pups, with room for one or two more. Spacious yard was perfect, and we enjoyed the porch. The drive to and fro wasn't bad at all, even enjoyable in many parts. Accessibility to adventures was easy, but that could be said about the whole area😍I would book with this host again for sure.

A great place to stay with children!

We stayed here for a few days - two adults and two children (4 and 10.) What a wonderful place! It’s cozy and wonderfully decorated and perfect for a small family. The kids loved roasting s’mores and playing on the lawn with thoughtfully provided lawn toys. The adults enjoyed the comfy couches, fast internet, and great communication from the hosts. We would totally stay again if we are in the area.

Great getaway!

The cottage was the perfect place to take a break and recharge. There were 4 people in our group and both the outdoor areas and indoor common spaces were big enough for us to spend time together. It was also an easy 15 minute drive to downtown Asheville. The owner was very accommodating and did her best to make sure we had everything we needed!

About the host

Hosted by Kris Mulloy

Host profile image
Tom is an experienced land surveyor with more than 30 years in the field. Several years ago, he started his own survey business here in Asheville and is well known and respected in the industry.

Kris is a Real Estate Broker, graphic designer, artist, and property manager. She loves using her skills in renovation, refinishing floors, and her vision as a designer to renew old homes into beautiful vacation rental properties to be enjoyed by folks visiting the Asheville area. Tom lovingly applies his skills at carpentry, light electric, and vision in sync with Kris. As a result, the houses shine brighter and more beautiful than ever.

Once ready for guests, Kris manages the houses and makes sure the guests truly love their experience, whichever one of their 3 vacation homes they choose. As an award-winning Realtor, Kris also helps many folks find their own forever and vacation homes here in WNC.

Together, Tom and Kris have lived in the Asheville area for over 20 years. They met a few years back when she hired Tom to survey her land in nearby Arden. Soon, they discovered their mutual interest and worked together on creating 3 lovely places... The Sweet Mount Royal House, The Little Yellow Cottage, and most recently… The Olive House.

Why they chose this property

Tom saw the cottage for sale during a day out in the field. He immediately recognized the potential in the neglected little house – the perfect size, bright rooms, a quiet rural neighborhood, the big flat yard (uncommon in this area), and the close proximity to Asheville – so he decided to make it ours. After a “few” trips to the hardware store and more than a year of hard work, she’s ready to shine again. Our labor of love!

What makes this property unique

It’s difficult to name just one thing that I love about our Cottage. When we found it, she was a worn little building with crumbling walls and a tattered old carpet hiding her beautiful hardwood floors. After many months of love and labor, she’s now a shiny happy little house.

Her location can’t be beat – a quiet country road yet close to the city and nearby adventures. In a short drive you can have lunch downtown, sample the local breweries, visit the Biltmore Estate, enjoy a concert at the Orange Peel, LaZoom, ski, hike, tube, kayak… whatever makes you smile! Then come home to our comfy little cottage, kick off your sandals (or ski boots), and rest up for the next day’s adventure.

The benefit of starting with an empty house is that now almost everything is new. We has fun adding things we felt our guests would enjoy – new HVAC for those dog days of summer and the cold winter nights, covered deck with views of the distant mountains, red chairs and a red door to match, gas grill and monster fire pit, toys and balls for the big yard, colorful mugs and our favorite coffee we discovered in Honduras, shiny stainless steel fridge, comfy beds with plush soft blankets and quilts, big lcd tv, and a chaise lounge in the big window with a few good books.

Creative touches throughout add to the character – beautiful new hickory cabinets in the kitchen topped with oak butcher block counters we salvaged from old truck beds, nostalgic farm theme of the dining room with an antique oak table that extends for more room, the tree wall in the lavender bedroom, our favorite JRR Tolkien quote in the blue bedroom, and a big compass rose in the living room for folks coming from all directions.
