This place is so awesome! We loved the rustic decor. The place is huge, plenty of room and privacy for all. Our grown kids loved the bunkhouse games. We loved the two giant living room areas. Hot tub was wonderful (and already warmed up and ready for us). Parking was easy and all the people in Ruidoso (and at Ski Apache) were so friendly and grateful for us choosing to vacation there. Terrific experience!

Hi Lynn,
Thank you so much for visiting us at Hummingbird Cabins in Ruidoso NM. We hope you had a great Time.
Sincerely,
Hummingbird Cabins Team
Beautiful older property. Not sure if I understood that the kitchen is upstairs, we had one older adult who had a difficult time getting up and down for meals and this may be something for others to consider (we may have missed this if it was pointed out in the listing and is totally our fault). Overall we loved the property and would stay here again!
The bathtubs and the zinc in the kitchen getting clogged, a lot of dust and cobwebs on the windows and high parts, dirty fans, the grill does not work well (one of the burners does not turn on).
House and space was great. View was excellent and the property gave you a sense of privacy even being in a neighborhood. Really need to work on the doors not latching on most of the doors, extension cords running across to plug in TV's and such. Several lights did not work or the bulbs were out. Pool table needs a little TLC. Comforters need to be washed from time to time. Oven is top notch but you will need a road map on how to use it, took a little bit but we managed. Hot tub has a leak and we had to add water to use it the one time we did. Outdoor grill is to small for the amount of people that can stay in the house. We had 4 and it was hard to cook all that we wanted on the outdoor grill.
I want to start off by saying the the property managers, Hummingbird Cabins, were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Everything on their end was quick and polite. The property itself is definitely in need of some maintenance on behalf of the owners, but that of course doesn't fall onto the PM. The hot tub was one of our top priorities, and this one let us down. It seems that at least one of the jets are not functioning. One other jet we were able to get working sometimes, but other times it wouldn't function. But overall, the smell was atrocious. It definitely hadn't been drained and filled recently, and we avoided it after the first night because the smell was just that bad. Very disappointing to say the least. The amenities were fine. Pool table is not leveled, the felt and ball nets are torn. Still a playable experience. The ping pong table shows wear, but it's fine. The basketball game didn't turn on, but we didn't care too much. The beds were comfortable, showers got hot, laundry machines a nice touch. Plenty of space to spread out, even for a large group like ours. Overall we were pleased with our visit, but there are areas where the owner could improve the property. The place is good for what it is. If you have a large group and want the amenities, this is a good choice. Just manage your expectations and you'll be set. It is a little dated, but I feel it's priced accordingly, so it's hard to be too mad about it. But the hot tub definitely needs attention.

Not happy with what we recieved at all
The property was not what we expected per the pictures advertised. It needs alot of updating to match what is online. There is a step that needs to be repaired. Lots of the furniture needs to be replaced. Broken stools, back of the chairs were coming off. Some of the chairs look like a dog and been chewing them up. Its advertised as a 5 bed 5 bath however, the 5th bedroom is in separate bunk house that isn't full furnished as a bedroom. Its more like a game room with a couch. Therefore we did not benefit from that bath or bed because no family wanted to stay in there. I asked for pictures of that bunkhouse before renting and was denied and now I see why. I also asked for pictures of the downstairs kitchen. Instead of telling me there was no downstairs kitchen. I was just told all pictures had already been provided.

Hello Heather!
Thank you for your feedback. The bunkhouse does indeed have two twin beds upstairs. We are not sure what you mean by not fully furnished as a bedroom? There is a bathroom, seating area, game room on the lower level and then the 2 twin beds upstairs. Were you unable to find the beds? I'm not sure why you would have been denied photos of the bunkhouse or photos of the home at all? We can only add 50 to VRBO, but the full collection is on our website. Our associates would never deny a guest photos of one of our homes. This home is a wonderful big home in Alto and the owners are working with us frequently to fix it up.
In the description on VRBO and all of our websites pertaining to the bunkhouse it states:
check out the game room in the bunkhouse! There is a ping pong table and an area to rest or watch an intense game of ping pong! There is also another living/common area off of the game room, a bathroom, and a loft bedroom upstairs in the game room with two twin sized beds. The bunkhouse (5th bedroom) is completely separate from the main home for those who enjoy a bit of privacy.
Have a great day!

Rustic doesn’t mean disrepair
The property is is need of deep cleaning, maintenance, and repair. Cobwebs in kitchen and downstairs bedrooms. Mouse downstairs. 1 frig in kitchen not working. Dishwasher poor. Dishes not clean even with pre rinsing. Pots and pans dirty. Only left 1” of dish. soap to wash dishes in sink that doesn’t hold water with old stoppers. 2 chairs in kitchen and 1 bar stool broken. No salt in water softener. Inside drier vent clogged and not maintained properly. Heater in bunkhouse not working. Would not have been able to use as 5th bedroom. Tried to call maintence because it was cold so pipes wouldn’t freeze, but No response or call back. ETC……
Overall this place was great, kitchen fully stocked, spacious, too many amenities to mention. Only downside was that wifi was slow but spent most time outside and on the deck. And read description, no air conditioning so it was hot during the day but mornings and evenings were cool. Loved it and would recommend!

Great cabin that was not clean
There were no blankets on the beds. We found some in the closet but they were smelly and obviously not clean. The carpet was stained in many places. There was mouse poop under the kitchen sink. They only provided two trash bags but expected you to take out all trash. There is a putting green but no golf clubs. There is an amazing shower in the master bedroom but does not function as advertised online. We had to wash the pots and pans before we used them. They only provided one roll of paper towels. Spiders in the downstairs bathroom. The house needs an overall deep cleaning. And the outside grill was unusable because it was so dirty.
Our group was made up of family, some married, some single. That can present organizational issues, but the sleeping options are varied, so it was great!!
Old pictures on website, dirty furniture, torn towels, broken latches
The house is spacious, has nice views and is well appointed. It must be a warm and welcoming place at one point but now it looks old, dingy and poorly maintained. Minimal effort is put in making the guest feel welcome or even comfortable. The beds had used sheets with (golden) hair on it on several sheets and pillows. Really old dark comforters did not inspire confidence that they were cleaned at all. We had to buy sheets from Walmart. Thankfully it wasn't cold and we could make do with the blankets we had in the car. Kitchen was clearly cleaned before we came but several things were greasy and dirty to touch including the knives and pots/pans. The furniture and carpet are old and dirty/stained. We washed the sheets provided and covered every single piece of furniture we sat on. House is poorly lit and that does not help make things any more cheerful. One of the downstairs bedroom mattress gave backaches to everyone who slept on it; we had to abandon that room after a couple of nights and adjust within the remaining bedrooms. Old & torn towels. We ended up buying towels too. Several doors won't lock; broken or missing latches. Ants in one of the bathrooms. Website mentioned high speed internet but it is worse than DSL. We requested help for two days but slow internet was never addressed. One of the electric outlets was broken and exposed and is a safety hazard for young kids. The building had a notice of city code violation. The only saving grace was the beautiful view from the deck including the bird feeder. Deck is where we spent nearly all of our time because we stayed at home due to Covid.
Nice clean property worked out well for our large group
