We will strive to provide the best customer service and improve as we go with feedback from our guests. We hope to earn your five-star review! Your expectations should be limited to what is promised here, and reviews should reflect how we did with these promises. Before submitting your review, please remember to base it on the following criteria and what was promised to be provided for the price paid as follows:
Easy check-in process – You'll be able to self-check in. Kelli will give you check-in details prior to arrival, including a lock box code. You'll be able to access the rental at your leisure after check-in time, at 4pm. We offer early check-in options, if it's available a couple days prior to your arrival for $25-$50, depending on your arrival time.
Great Communication – Kelli is known to be responsive to guests before, during, and after their stay. You can expect prompt responses to your questions. She'll respond to web site messages as soon as she can.
Clean Accommodations – Your private apartment should be sparkling clean.
Great Mendenhall Valley Location – It's steps from the city bus stop and two miles from the famous Mendenhall Glacier which you can get to by car, or walking on a paved bike path or gravel trail. You can take the bus for one mile and walk the second mile. This is not a downtown Juneau property. Downtown Juneau is substantially more expensive than the Mendenhall Valley, so this location for the price should not be compared to that of downtown. If you want to be downtown, and don't want to take a 45 minute bus ride to go 16 miles, then this space is not for you.
Accurate Description of the space - I try to make continuous improvements when guests make suggestions and do my best to keep the changes updated and published. If I missed something please let me know, so I can update the information. If you are missing something you were counting on, please let me know immediately, so I can try to provide it for your stay.
Great Value – Juneau is expensive, especially during peak season, and while this is a more affordable option, we understand that it can seem expensive. Part of the value is the ability to rent for only one night and have an additional person. The price fluctuates depending on the season. We have to charge more when the business is there, so that we can afford to have it vacant for long, slow periods.

Weather was a big factor in out stay, as it was a residence, but they had a plow truck plow the berm and driveway, so we could get out, and a shovel to make trail out to my car. Also, when my granddaughter came up from Petersburg, it was easy to add her on to our stay. It worked out really well and we had variables as to whether we were going to have to stay one more day, if we couldn’t get on the ferry until Monday night. They also worked with us, so if we needed to extend one more day, they would accommodate us. We very much appreciated that!!

The unit is very conveniently located just down the road from the glacier. It had everything we needed.
The rooms were the perfect size for us, in the perfect location, and perfectly comfy and homey. We appreciate all the thoughtfulness you put into Grandma's Suite and the detailed instructions so we had no floundering to do. When we make it back to Juneau, we will know where to stay.Thank you!

Very comfortable and close to places we visited! Clean, well supplied (maybe add a couple of wine glasses)...we had a great stay.
We had a very nice stay at Grandma's Suite. We found it just as described. It was convenient and easy to find. It had plenty of space for two guests. We will certainly stay here for future visits!

Woderful location for exploring Juneau, nice walk straight to Mendenhall glacier. Make sure to dine at McGivney's which is very close. Everything was clean and comfortable. Super close to the airport or the Alaska marine hwy..
A pretty little place. Enjoyed my stay. On the downside, a little too far from downtown. I had no car, which made it harder.

Lovely little cottage in a quaint wilderness town that is spread out, so you'll need transportation. 4 miles from an amazing glacier and about 20 min into Juneau. Beautiful country.
Grandma suite was cozy and clean. Probably could use some updating. Location was great to get to Mendenhall Glacier and things around there. It was nice being away from the chaos of downtown.

Great - Expectations Met
I'm not a big fan of spiders, there were spiders above the shower, on the toilet brush and above the sink in the bathroom. the room was attached to the house and would be nice if there was a notice that it leads to the living room of the main house. or completely separated from the house as it's an apt.
We were very comfortable....sometimes wished for TV but we were very busy every day and Grandma's Suite was close to many places we visited! The gorgeous weather was a bonus!!

Thanks so much, Barbara! You guys were awesome! The TV in your room worked when Dawn tried, but then she reset the internet and logged you into the wrong network/password after that. The TV in the main TV room was on the wrong input/source, so she changed that and it worked. She did'n't revisit that TV after resetting the internet, so the internet settings weren't compromised. I wish you would have let me know that she didn't get that figured out. I thought that she had gone back the next day to fix it. I'm really sorry about that inconvenience. Thank you so much for everything! Next time you come back we will make sure that is dialed in for you so that you can stream TV with no effort.

Amazing location. Clean and comfortable. Super star host. Would definitely stay there again! Accomodation was perfect for my husband and I with our 9 year old. Booked a tour and got a discount. Amazing experience! Thank you!
Highly recommend. Clean well maintained. Quick response to our inquiries. It was perfect for us. Full disclosure; It is an older home the beautiful refurbish can’t eliminate some of those characteristics (closet doors that don’t close, bumps in the floor.. all very minor if you’re not a perfectionist) We would stay again without hesitation.

An Excellent Stay
I recently spent a week in Grandma's Suite and I was glad I did. Everything about the location was excellent and the site itself more than fulfilled my expectations. There was nothing that I needed to make my stay any more comfortable. I was especially glad to have such a wide variety of kitchen supplies and capabilities. To be sure, as it is clearly stated, Grandma's is no 5-star luxury locale—no chocolate mints on one's pillow at night and no valet parking—but no one ought to expect it either. If a casual, comfortable place to stay is what one is looking for at a reasonable (for Juneau anyway) charge, one should look no further than here.

We had our seperate spaces and were able to cook to save money. The location was great for people who have rented a car. I walked to Mendenhall (45 min) and did a lovely forest hike there, as well. Bus service is infrequent & taxis expensive. We got a vehicle for $224 through turo the final day. Overall we felt it was a little overpriced. The fees on top of base cost make it less affordable. The hostess was very willing to hear & address our feedback, however.

Grandma’s Suite was not at all what we expected.
Yes, it had a bed, a kitchenette, and the amenities it said it did, but for the price point I expected a lot higher quality of a vacation rental.
I will give the property credit for being quiet, easy to access, and being in a convenient valley location, however, the hair throughout the bed sheets, mold in the shower, dirty dishes in the kitchen cupboards, tattered pillows, dusty window coverings, and duct tape over the front door handle, determine my rating of only 2 stars.
Truth be told, I was appalled when I compared this rental with the beautifully renovated and clean rental a family member of mine stayed at on this same trip. It that was at a much better price point than Grandma’s Suite.
This rental does what you need it to by being a place to sleep, but it should not cost what it does. I did not want to spend anymore time here than I had to, and frankly, I didn’t even want to get under the covers. So much so that my partner and I did not even stay the last night in the place.
I would not recommend my grandmother stay here in this 'suite'.

Why they chose this property
This is a special property for me. I purchased it from my grandma's estate, after having spent a large part of my life there with my amazing grandmother who did so much for the Juneau community. I try to keep the place nice, as she would expect of me. She always ran a boarding house when she lived there, so it continues as such.
What makes this property unique
This is a studio apartment attached to a boarding house, so guests have access to a nice kitchen with granite countertops, and more kitchen appliances and amenities (they also have their own private kitchen in the apartment). Guests can use the common living, family, and dining rooms as well. All of the long-term residents in the house are nice and accommodating.
