Cedar Cliff Retreat - Stunning 1920's Craftsman on Lake Superior Shore

Cedar Cliff is located on a dead-end road that runs along the Lake Superior shore. From the moment you walk through the doors of this incredible home, you will feel transformed.

The magnificent great room with a massive Carlton Peak fireplace has an antique dining room table that seats 12 and a drop-leaf English table that can seat 6 more. Two large screened-in porches flank this room and the windows that run its length have window seats for bird watching and reading or lake gazing. French doors in the middle open to the stairway that leads down to the water. The north shore is known for its craggy rocks and vistas and our shoreline offers a private experience of this magnificent place.

A fully-equipped kitchen has a six-burner, professional restaurant stove and connects to a charming breakfast nook and pantry. The six bedrooms are comfortably furnished with antiques, fine linens and local artwork. The bedrooms are set to the back of the house affording privacy and separation from group activities in the great room.

Cedar Cliff is a unique environment for your north shore vacation, combining old fashioned relaxation with modern amenities and many local attractions. For special events -please inquire.

Gorgeous Arts and Crafts vintage home on Lake Superior. Beautifully furnished with "period pieces" and lots of cozy quilts. The kitchen was extremely well-stocked with cookware and the huge fireplace was a delight to sit by. It was a wonderful home for my family's New Year's gathering.

Fabulous location for a large group

Such a beautiful place to stay, especially for larger groups. We come back every year because of the incredible view and the big stone fire place and the ability to sit our entire group together for dinner and give each couple their own room.

When booking, Kathy was helpful with all of my questions. The owners seem understanding, flexible, and happy to accommodate larger groups. This is a spacious and beautiful property. The home has been very well taken care of and maintained. It is easy to locate. Accommodations (like towels, parking, etc.) are adequate. Bring spare linens if you would like extra blankets and towels. My check in was slightly delayed (15-30mins) as I didn’t receive my code to get in on time and cleaners were still finishing sorting the property from the big group before us. Kathy and both of the cleaners were kind during this transition. The trash disposal area was not completely empty before the start of our stay. When entering the kitchen it smelled strongly of trash/ garbage disposal so we opened the windows. There is no central AC. Some of the outdoor photos in the listing are inaccurate (mainly the yard and fire pit areas). I was made aware the day before check-in that much of the property has changed due to erosion. The owners seem to be doing everything they can to protect the property. You will have to pay for firewood for the fire place and fire pit, the stereo does not have functioning adapters to connect manually and the remote was missing to pair via Bluetooth, there were no toiletries provided besides hand soap, and previous guests tend to leave behind charcoal for the grill. Overall, we had a great time but were missing some of the complements appropriate for a stay of this price.

We stayed at this property for 4 days and it was perfect, the view is amazing, it’s bigger in person than what the pictures show. it was very spacious, the campfire area was beautiful, its very quiet but we did have a stranger walk up on the property though so make sure you are locking the doors!

Our stay was great. A little problem with getting the code for the lock box but it was resolved. The house is a beautiful old home. We loved that there was plenty of room for all of us. The steps down to the lake were very steep so some in our party chose not to go down to the lake. The only other thing was that again some in our party would have liked a walk in shower but other than those two issues our stay was great. Loved the two screened in porches where you could hear and see the lake. Booked again for next year!

My name is Kathy and I have a boutique in Minneapols where we live. Doug is a musician and a software engineer. We have 5 children and 5 grandchildren . We enjoy being involved in the care and maintenence of Cedar Cliff and watching it bring such pleasure to its visitors.

Why they chose this property

Doug and I love the North Shore and wanted to share the magic with others and this was the perfect way to do it! We love the community and wanted to help support the local economy and bring more awareness of this incredible wilderness in our own back yard. We chose this large historic Craftsman because we love the quality and simplicity of the architecture and the ability to house large groups comfortably and most of all because we love the Lake! Being on a dead end road is a big plus and the location makes it easy to get to outdoor activies , shops and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Cedar Cliff offers a truly unique North Shore experience. You have an entire house that was on the historic homes tour with an amazing Carlton Peak fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, organic coffee, tea and cocoa, wonderful bedding and quilts plus lots of character and lots of privacy.

We have hosted family reunions, yoga retreats, weddings, birthday celebrations, craft weekends, girlfriends weekends and workshops to name a few.

The Great Room is perfect for the group activities and the bedrooms are set to the back of the house for more peaceful quiet time. The two large screened porches give even more great relaxing lake time opportunities and you can even sleep out there on an air bed if you want!

We are a Green facility and use recycled and environmentally friendly products and high quality natural fibers in our linens, towels and rugs.

The biggest plus, of course, is the Lake. The feeling you get looking out over that vast expanse of water just has to be experienced.
