"The Fox Den": Imagine a whole house for two people, with a yard, a large deck with gazebo that feels like a treehouse above a mountain stream, instead of a motel room. Wow! Great for a couple, 2 friends, or parent-child catch-up. Enjoy the , wood interior, fast wi-fi, kitchen, full bath, outdoor shower, 2 bedrooms, 2 swings, fire pit, and Japanese garden. Nestled in a valley with great hiking, downhill from Deep Gap on the beautiful Black Mountain Ridge Crest Trail.
Update: Nature has healed us after Hurricane Helene hit our area September 28, 2024. Roads are just fine again. We are high above the creek. A regular car can get to the Fox Den, no problem as roads are paved right to the parking spaces. We worked hard, and Fox Den is now better than ever! Reopened in April 2025 and Wow! nature is popping out all over!
This is a real getaway space, great for relaxing and being with the ones you love. Burnsville restaurants and stores are 11 miles away. Nearby are crafts, live music, gifts and groceries, hiking trails and rivers. 45 miles from Asheville with its tourist attractions when you want a city. Lounge and dine on the deck in the gazebo, enjoy the fun bedrooms, and listen to the mountain stream down below. Privacy and nature are the plan. Take a deep breath. Restore. Refresh. Relax.

Amazing hospitality and great place for a mountain get-away! -Samuel April 2019
Ron was very courteous and responsive. Cabin would be a great base for hiking in the Mt Mitchell area. -James April 2019
Very sweet spot! We were there in the winter and stayed very warm! Gorgeous location, just a short drive away from a nearby town with coffee shops, groceries, fly fishing shops, etc.
I’d definitely return! - Kate
Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Such a beautiful place in the mountains. My family and I enjoyed every second at the Fox den. We had campfires and told spooky stories and went hiking to several waterfalls. We drove into Asheville which is only an hour away and had a fun time looking through all the shops. We will definitely be back! -Sarah October 2018

About the host
Hosted by Ron Moore
I grew up traveling. I'm a musician and my parents were missionaries in Korea, so world travel was normal for me from the get go. Staying in people's homes, hotels, and my own homes has given me an appreciation of feeling "at home", and a creative, fun use of space. I spend part of my time in Asheville, NC, and often stay at the Fox Den thinking of new ways to please my guests, and enjoying this simple and surprising special place.
Why they chose this property
The Fox Den was a getaway "love nest" for a couple from Asheville. They loved to come up to be alone together, to write, and to "do nothing". Sadly the husband passed away. To keep the dream alive it continues to be a "love nest" for couples, families or just you. The Fox Den is in a long established community of people who wanted to get away from it all. It is a safe and peaceful neighborhood - great for a casual stroll along the stream, or for serious hiking along the Black Mountain Ridge Crest Trail. The valley has a long history of logging roads that wind up the mountain that are now very nice hiking trails.
What makes this property unique
I fell in love with The Fox Den for its tranquility, with my favorite place being out on the deck over the stream. Inside, I put the couch and easy chairs facing each other for conversation. I thought of not having a TV, but have succumbed with a nice TV and smart DVD player that gets internet services. Outside the house there are no less than four dining areas and two swings. The deck itself is great for a few hours of sun, and bright stars at night. We get a lot of hikers, and folks who want to visit Asheville, but want to avoid the crowds and higher prices, and just want to relax quietly when they come "home". Families like the strolls through the forested neighborhood, the creek, fishing, and nearby crafts and outdoor activities. It's simple, just rustic enough, and people say their experience here borders on the magical. That's nice to hear. It really makes me happy when i read the wonderful guest notes of what a nice time people had.
