John Cleveland Osgood, a coal baron, resided at the nearby Redstone Castle and built the Crystal Farm in the 1890s to provide food for the inhabitants of the town of Redstone. This historical cottage served as the original ice house where ice was cut and stored for use by the town and the Redstone Castle.

The custom leather furnishings and rugs, antler chandeliers, unique mountain decor and wood burning stove create the perfect atmosphere for an amazing mountain getaway experience. The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare meals and the dining room, with a beautiful antler chandelier, offers great views of the estate and red mountain cliffs.

On the upper level, the bedroom features a comfortable queen bed and the tiny loft area accommodates 2 young children with two single mattresses on the loft floor. The loft is great for kids however due to the steep ladder access and low railing in the loft, this space is only suitable for children between 6-12 years of age.

The spacious bathroom is on the lower level and is equipped with an oversized bathtub, great for long soaks.

The swimming pool is located behind the main house and is ONLY open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Both the tennis court and swimming pool are shared with owners of the estate.

The hosts were excellent and treated us like old friends. The cottage was clean, cozy and expertly decorated with their beautiful antler and leather creations. Our dog had room to roam on the beautiful grounds and the owners dog was super friendly and playful. Our visit was in the Fall so the pool was closed for the season so we didn’t get to enjoy that, but it nestled perfect serene setting.

Crystal River is such a wonderful property. Rich in history and a perfect location for a getaway. The highlight of the trip was Rupert, a large schnauzer who greeted us upon arrival and was a joy to play with. Do not let his size intimidate you. He is a lover. We enjoyed the Ice Haus and took several day trips to Aspen and Crested Butte. Our hosts were delightful and gave us the opportunity to visit the workshop and their home. We will definitely be back.

Very cute, quaint, historic cottage on 30 acres of beautiful, manicured grounds. You enter through stately iron gates to a very private and quite place with a beautiful patio surrounded by forest. The perfect escape from the Texas heat. The cottage is located just outside the beautiful, historic town of Redstone, which is what Colorado mountain towns used to be like. A few minor glitches with the house, but the owners corrected the problem immediately. The stairs are a little steep and the bathroom and bedroom are on different floors, but I'm 75 years old and it wasn't a problem. My wife and I had a restful healing visit. I recommend Crystal Farm highly!

Stephen and Joan are the nicest, most welcoming people you’ll meet. Joan greeted us by saying we could let Bo, our 11 month old Golden off the leash. The property is beautiful and relaxing. Beautiful Cottage!

This property is amazing, the rustic decor is amazing. This is truly a hidden treasure, the scenery around this property is beautiful it took my breath away. On property we went swimming daily, played with the pets, played tennis and went to Crystal River. Off property we visited Maroon Bells, Hanging Lake and went river rafting. Our family loved this area in Colorado and the best thing to the cottage are the property owners Joan and Steve they treated us like family they are truly talented and the sweetest people. The coziest hidden gem of a mountain retreat!

I can't say enough good things about Crystal Farm. Truly, this stay was a dream. I went for a solo retreat and ended up making friends with the warm, hospitable owners - you even get homemade farmhouse cookies upon arrival! But the retreat was even more than I'd hoped for. I loved the idyllic, white winter setting; feeding the mini donkeys on my morning stroll; walking into Redstone and exploring; having a constant fire going in the cozy cottage. It was magical.

The cabin itself was wonderful—cute, clean, well-maintained, and clearly cared for by the host’s family. The setting had so much potential for a relaxing getaway.Unfortunately, the major downside was the host’s large dog, who roams the property freely 24/7. While friendly in temperament, the dog was very intrusive—jumping on us repeatedly (including my young niece, who he humped and accidentally scratched) and showing aggression toward my own dog, who I paid to bring along. Their dog would often stand right in front of our cabin and start tiffs with my dog, making simple things like taking my dog out to use the restroom a stressful ordeal. Several times we had to run from our cabin to the truck and hope the dog wouldn’t chase or attack. I brought these concerns up with the hosts, but nothing was done to manage or restrain their dog during our stay. This situation made it impossible to fully relax. The pool—one of the main reasons we booked—was also directly off the hosts’ back deck, and we were told their dog might “jump in and give us a hug” unless we tied him up ourselves. This meant swimming would have required actively managing their pet, which really isn’t what I expected when paying for a vacation rental. While I truly loved the cabin itself, the ongoing dog issues turned what could have been an amazing stay into a stressful one. Future guests should be aware that this is very much a shared property environment with a dog that more than once was a liability for us.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such thoughtful and detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you found the cabin clean, well-maintained, and a welcoming space. At the same time, we sincerely apologize for the challenges you experienced with the dog during your stay. Rupert is a very active dog. We do wish you had reached out to us directly rather than the owners, as our team, as the hosts and managing company, would have done everything possible to address the situation promptly. Your comfort and peace of mind are very important to us, and we truly understand how uncomfortable this must have been, especially with your young niece and your own dog present. Please know that we take your experience seriously, and we will carefully review your feedback to help ensure future guests enjoy a more seamless and relaxing stay.

Hidden Mountain Gem

This stay was a relaxing true Colorado experience. Beautiful property next to the Crystal River. We left our bedroom window open at night and could hear the river. Our hosts Joan and Steve were awesome! They are true animal lovers like us and it was such a pleasure to stay on their property! We travel with our dogs and they had the time of their lives staying with us on the property!!! Joan and Steve gave us great ideas on hikes nearby. Hiked the Avalanche Creek Trail and that was amazing! Not too far away is one of our favorites...Slow Groovin BBQ, did that after a hike. Did some SUP’n on the Roaring Fork River in Northstar Nature Preserve which was to die for! The cottage was perfect for two! Please note there are some levels and steps in the historic cottage, but when you are there for an active vacation it was no problem. The cottage is furnished inside and out in the incredible Crystal Farms furniture and decor, which they make in their cool studio! As an interior designer by profession I totally appreciated the vibe and decor of the cottage! We LOVED the whole experience! We hated to leave but, hope to come back and also make it to see their ranch sometime!

Western, memorable and exceptional

You can go anywhere and find luxury accommodations with perfectly appointed everything. But precious few lodgings have the rich, authentic character you will find in this irresistible cottage. I was in love from the moment I walked through the door. Don’t get me wrong; it’s not without its extravagances—like the butter-soft leather couch for curling up with a book or watching your choice of streaming distractions in front of a fresh-laid fire. Not to mention the gorgeous, super-comfortable bed and wonderfully equipped kitchen. Even the bathroom was a spacious treat with stone floors, pedestal sink, clawfoot tub, and fluffy towels to spare. What makes the Ice House truly special, though, is the most amazing array of hand-crafted elk antler furniture, lamps, light fixtures and more, all designed and built by your hosts—hard-working ranchers and artisans with a special gift for kindness. Joan and Steve made sure we had everything to make our stay pleasant and memorable. Even our St. Bernard gave the place a five-bone rating. How could you not have fun on a fenced full acre, a pond to cool off in, other doggies to play with, and a hefty jar of complimentary dog treats. All beneath the stunning red cliffs and near the pristine waters of the Crystal River.
