Place was well stocked, clean with good location. Host was easy to contact and helpful. Trying to find a parking place could be tricky and you need to be careful on the stairs, but it was only one floor, so manageable. Bed was comfortable and shower had good pressure. Strong and reliable wi-fi.
Beautiful and well appointed property. The village is beautiful and the gorgeous apartment provides easy access to restaurants, shops and places to enjoy the sea. The hosts were outstanding and provided us with a great variety of information. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and memorable
Loved this place. The bed was amazing and so was the shower and heated towel warmer. We were sad to leave. It was a wonderful little town located amid the Normandy beaches. Just be careful to not blow a breaker.
We absolutely loved this place! It was a relief to arrive to such a welcoming place after driving straight from Charles De Gaulle airport and battling jet lag. The WIFI, hot water and especially the beds were wonderful! And Jean-Luc left us a lovely gift! It was comfortable, had plenty of character and charm, was convenient to everything and check-in was a breeze! I have no hesitation recommending this beautiful apartment! Merci Jean-Luc!
Wonderful place, comfortable and very well kept for a 16th century building with a spiral staircase inside the tower. Jean was very informative with our booking. Highly recommend staying here.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the apartment. It was extremely clean and spacious for our stay. Close to many restaurants and shops and was just an adorable community. I would definitely recommend!
Comfortable and convenient stay in Port-en-Bessin. Modern amenities in a historic building. It was close to dining, groceries, parking...and the D-Day beaches/Bayeux. Our host Jean-Luc was excellent. This was our second stay--and we highly recommend this apartment.
A truly authentic stay in the heart of the beautiful village of Port-en-Bessin, an ideal home base for this retired couple to explore the D-Day landmarks. The unit was as advertised and consistent with other reviews. Steps from the harbor, waterfront restaurants and a quality patisserie we visited all 3 mornings of our stay. Stone spiral steps lead up 1 flight to the unit entrance - doable for us - but, if you have any mobility limitations in your party, you’ll want to be aware of this and a couple of step-ups in the floor plan. A compact but efficient layout with an unobtrusive mix of modern lighting and amenities in an historically old structure. Ambiance like crazy inside and out the window. If you like “quaint” experiences rather than the standard hotel, you’ve hit the jackpot here. We could park our rented vehicle without difficulty in a free public lot just a block away. From here, it was a short drive through scenic villages to Omaha beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, Point Du Hoc and Arromanches. We also drove deeper into Normandy (about 1.5 hours) to visit the Brittany American cemetery and follow the route of a unit of particular interest to our family (51st Armored Infantry Battalion) that fought in the breakout from the beachhead in July 1944.
For a 4 night visit this was perfect. The apartment was exactly as described. Modern conveniences in a building that was many hundreds of years old. Very quiet despite being virtually in the center of town.
We had a very good stay with Jean Luc in Port-en-Bessin. As a first time in an apartment via VRBO we had a very good first impression. Jean Luc makes sure you have everything you need!
This was the perfect location to explore Normandy and all that area offers. Loved the apartment and Jean-Luc was so great at communicating and instructions. Loved the apartment. Everything was wonderful. I can’t recommend highly enough. Thank you Jean-Luc for a lovely vacation spent by the sea Tammy
Great home base for visiting the D-Day Invasion area.
Port-en-Bessin in general, and this property specifically, is a great place from which to visit all the the D-Day memorial areas. It is located on the border between Omaha and Gold beaches, so that puts all of the main invasion beaches in easy reach.
It’s a short drive to the Omaha beach memorial, the American Cemetery, and the Overlord Museum. Bayeau and Caen are close by, is is the last remaining German canon battery on Omaha Beach which still has its canons in place.
We spent three nights at the property. Jean-Luc was very helpful and the place was immaculate. A great kitchen area, comfy bed and lots of history.
Port-en-Bessain is a working fishing port, and if you’re there at the right time of day you can take advantage of the fresh catch of the day being unloaded.
Lots of great restaurants and an amazing Boulangerie.
It’s a 12 out of 10.
The apartment in Port-en-Bessin was wonderful—full of charm, history, and modern comfort. It’s in a beautifully updated historic building, right in the heart of the port town and steps from shops, restaurants, bakeries, and a small grocery store.Tastefully decorated with lovely artwork and comfortable furniture, it was the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. The kitchen is well-equipped for any amateur chef, and with fresh seafood nearby and a good bottle of wine, dinners were memorable. The bedroom and bed were very comfortable, and the area is peaceful. The only sounds were the occasional waterfowl when the windows were open—pure relaxation. Our host, Jean-Luc, welcomed us upon arrival and answered our questions. While we don’t speak French, smartphone translation worked perfectly. We were initially concerned about parking since the apartment doesn’t include a space, but Jean-Luc assured us it wouldn’t be an issue, and he was right—parking was easy and close by.Port-en-Bessin is a great base for visiting the D-Day beaches and Bayeux. The locals were welcoming and patient with our limited French. A highlight was the Sunday farmers market, full of fresh produce, cheeses, meats, seafood, and prepared foods. We highly recommend this apartment for anyone wanting an authentic stay in a charming, well-located port town.Thank you, Jean-Luc, for being a gracious and helpful host!
