We loved staying at this immaculately renovated ranch cottage where every detail has been carefully thought out. We enjoyed spending a few nights at this private, romantic and charming location after spending several nights on the Kona coast. Be sure to check out the pool!

Relax, unwind and enjoy
Peaceful, quiet, private and charming.
Great local restaurants in Hawi. 5 minutes away.
Morning coffee at Kohala Coffee. Locals are welcoming some great conversations. Every morning the fellow with his dog and goat show,up. Sushi Rocks is great. Let the owner decide what to bring you for dinner.
Gills,Taco Shed in Ka’paa is terrific. Stop for lunch after going to the end of the road (literally) and hike down to the black sand beach.
Waimea and the Kona coast are a restful,30 minutes away if you decide you can’t stand being relaxed.

We are delighted you stayed with us at Puakea Ranch and enjoyed our amazing community, shops, restaurants and gorgeous north side of the island. Please come back and join us again soon.
Warmest aloha,
All your friends at Puakea Ranch
We were dazzled at every moment of the day. What a place for four folks to relax, explore and ponder the history of Havi. Christie’s attention to detail is impeccable: from beach bags and sheets, to delightful bath items in the coolest bath house ever, to cooking basics for grilling, to the plantings around the pool and fish pond! The morning greeting of the peacocks are a delight. The ranch land and views are beautiful and mesmerizing. If this review seems over the top and unbelievable, I’m really sincere about what I’m saying. The four of us have done a lot traveling together and this property is at the top of the list. Thank you, Christie.

Miles Away Vacation -- Words Barely Suffice
Unique, charming, inviting, quaint, calm, unpretentious . . . pick a superlative. My wife, 15-year old son and I just had the most pleasurable and relaxing week in the Miles Away Cottage at the Puakea Ranch. The place is fantastic and I recommend it without qualification. I can't remember when I've ever forgotten about work so quickly on a holiday. The entire ambiance is special, from the wading pool off the back deck to the Japanese bath out the back door to the fresh eggs and large herb and vegetable garden 100 yards down the main path. Ocean breezes on the front porch and through the master BR windows all night. Fully equipped, including beach chairs. Great place. Christie (owner) and Josh (caretaker) were awesome and Angus and Beau (resident dogs) were perfectly behaved, periodic companions.
Miles Away cottage was absolutely perfect! We could not have asked for a better location or a more beautiful setting. We ate every meal on the front porch under a gorgeous huge tree with a view out to the ocean. The house is fully equipped with everything you would need! Christine is so sweet and helpful and is the perfect hostess. We miss our little gecko friends and especially Lucky the duck now that we are home. You cannot go wrong booking this place.
This place is magical. Wonderful. We have stayed here many many times, same place, and it feels like our home away from home. Has everything you need. The detached bathroom/shower is delightful, the beds/linens great. Will be back again!
I’ve traveled to Hawaii seven or eight times and this house near Hawi was easily my favorite. Incredibly peaceful and quiet, gorgeous views, friendly animals; my 2-year-old was endlessly entertained. If you love adventuring off the beaten path and avoiding tourist crowds, this is for you. We could have stayed indefinitely and will definitely be back. Big thank you to our hosts!
Beautiful place to get away. Stunning views, friendly pets, and very quiet.
Loved this place!!

An ideal retreat
My husband and I stayed in the Miles Away cottage at Puakea Ranch in March 2011. I read about the ranch in Sunset magazine and was obsessed with the idea of staying there for many months before I could finally schedule a getaway. The cottage and the ranch did not disappoint. They were both beautiful and felt like the perfect home away from home. We made delicious breakfasts with eggs from the resident chickens and made friends with the dogs who learned our breakfast schedule. The view was amazing. And the bathhouse was better than a spa. The town of Hawi is adorable, with some of the best restaurants on the island (Zest, Sushi Rock). Due to 30 mph+ winds and rain during most of our stay we couldn't enjoy the pool as much as we would have wished. And the wind also caused the old windows to rattle mightily throughout the night, so sleeping was challenging. Locals assured us that the wind was unusually strong. In spite of the terrible weather, Miles Away is now our standard for vacation accommodations and we hope to be back soon --but I will check the weather forecast first.

What a lovely surprise! ...
What a lovely surprise! A daughter made the choice
and reservations for our stay in "Miles Away"
Cottage on Puakea Ranch and we had no idea
where or what it would be. We walked in, said
WOW, gave her a kiss and opened the champagne!
Everything about it warranted champagne - the
seclusion, the oh so tastefully decorated rooms,
the private swimming pool with the sound of a
waterfall, the lanai overlooking the ocean and the
most amazing Japanese bath house. A niece and
her family joined us for a weekend family reunion
and they stayed in the treehouse up the road. Their
children were amazed and delighted by it - as well
as being able to collect fresh eggs in the morning
and getting up on a horse. Then when they left and
we had the place to ourselves, we really really
enjoyed the privacy and quiet of the place, sitting
on the lanai, watching the whales in the ocean, the
sunsets, the rainbows, and even the neighboring
cows and their newborn calves - so much nicer
than any resort - yet equally as classy as any we
have stayed in. We didn't want to leave so signed
up for one of the other cottages that was open.
I pass on a very enthusiastic recommendation for
Puakea Ranch and "Miles Away' Cottage and offer
heartfelt thanks for offering this unique place to the
owner, Christi and her ranch manager, Claudia.
Their attention to detail and the comfort of their
guests is outstanding.

About the host
Hosted by Christie Cash
Why they chose this property
Puakea Ranch is a one of a kind historic property that was desperately in need of recusing. Local developers re zoned the historic homestead to make room for one new luxury estate home. By putting the property on the Hawaii Historic Register and restore the original plantation era homes, we saved a great piece of history for Hawaii and North Kohala.
What makes this property unique
You really feel like you have stepped back in time to the heyday of the Hawaii Sugar and ranching era. Year round sunsets, views of Maui and So close to Hawi, Kapaau and Pololu Valley, we think this is one of the very best location on the island. Elopements, Special events, Private Parties.
