Quaint Rustic Cottage in Charming Caroga Lake -100 Steps to Lake (not on lake)
Ladybug is quaint, lovely little 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage that sleeps up to 4/5 people comfortably, and is just 100 steps to a shared private, deeded beach on Caroga Lake. The house is not located on the water, but rather on a quiet street in the rustic, sleepy, charming village of Caroga in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.
The cottage is over 100 years old and campy, but very clean and lovingly decorated with vintage antiques and furniture and peppered with modern amenities. The two bedrooms are upstairs and the one bathroom is downstairs.
For decorative purposes only, the house features several antique wood and cook's stoves and a large hearth fireplace. There is a smart TV that you can use to stream your favorite channels (with your own personal subscriptions) and we do have a DVD/VHS with some amazing old DVDs and VHS tapes for your viewing pleasure. We also have some comfy chairs and a rocker to curl up in on a rainy day to watch a movie, read a good book or play one of the many board games available.
The kitchen is well stocked with a refrigerator, electric stove, and plenty of pots pans, dishes, utensils and cooking utensils, as well as a blender, a toaster, a toaster oven, a coffee maker and grinder, and a tea kettle. There is no microwave, but we don't miss it with the toaster oven and stove. There is also no dishwasher, but there is a drying rack next to the country style kitchen sink, and another sink located on the back porch.
The shower/tub, toilet and bathroom are downstairs, just off the back porch off the kitchen.
Both bedrooms are upstairs, although there is a twin sleeper sofa bed on the ground floor in the living room. The Twin Room has two single/twin beds, a dresser, desk, bedside tables. The Full Room has a full bed sleeping one to two people. It also has a trundle bed with two twin beds, sleeping one person on top and one below comfortably, a dresser, desk and bedside table. The house is definitely best suited for a small family or very close friends as there are only two bedrooms and one bathroom. Please be sure to note that the bedrooms are upstairs and the only bathroom is downstairs, outside of the kitchen.
This is a three- season cabin, so there is not central heating and no air conditioning. On chilly nights, you can simply put on extra clothes and use some of our extra blankets available. In the summer, when its hot, we find opening the upstairs windows generally cools the place right down as you get the mountain breeze and breeze off the lake. On those few very hot days, you can use the fans in each bedroom and in the downstairs closet, as well as the window fans in each bedroom window.
Lady Bug has large, screened in front and back porches with some vintage wicker chairs and comfortable throw pillows to enjoy the view from the front or back of the house. On the back porch, guests can take in the sunset over the lake through the trees and our neighbor's houses.
Outside, there is a picnic table, a BBQ, and a fire pit with four Adirondack chairs, as well as the working well supplying water for Lady Bug, housed in its own charming well house. Although it goes without saying, guests may not under any circumstances climb or sit on the well, as it is an active well.
Lady Bug is in a neighborhood, there are lake houses and camp neighbors, it is not secluded or in the woods. It is not a party house, and we are not located in a resort town or area. But you will have peaceful time in a beautiful, tranquil place that will do wonders for your soul. We do hope you will come stay with us. This really is a lovely place to relax and spend time with family and friends.
We are so close to so many amazing outdoor adventures and activities, between the lake, fishing and swimming, to boating, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and canoeing (you can rent all of these at the Caroga Lake Marina about 1 mile down the street), to hiking in abundance, including Cane Mountain's Fire Tower, Nine Corner Lake and many more great trails, to the concerts on the lake and at Shermans, amazing antiquing in Caroga and surrounding areas and in Gloversville and Johnstown. We are also close to golf and horseback riding. And all this just in the summer. Cooperstown, Albany, Saratoga, Howes Caverns, Great Escape Water Park and Lake George are all about an hour away, give or take 15 minutes or so, depending on which one you want to visit. There is the Amsterdam Mohawks baseball team, which has exciting baseball games at a high level playing weekly at Shuttlesworth field, just outside of Amsterdam. And the Wild Animal Farm is on the way!
We also have a few great local restaurants and bars that are not to be missed, like Dick and Pegs and Vroomans, as well as some very quaint camping stores, and grocery stores nearby in Gloversville and Johnstown.
We love Caroga Lake and we love Lady Bug - we hope you will too!

We had a wonderful 4 days at the Lady Bug. Friendly neighbors and a quiet area. We were able to kayak several lakes and hiked three trails. The cottage was rustic, but we could relax on the front porch or in the living room. Enjoyed the fire pit on a couple of nights. All in all we had a great time.
This property was exactly as the write up says: quaint, rustic and charming. Perfectly located near the lake. We had one small issue which was addressed immediately by management. Very impressed! I would highly recommend staying at Ladybug.

Historical. My kids live history so it showed them a lot. Unplugging from the world was great
Traveling from FL made it difficult to bring my own linens. We had to go buy them. Overall it was good.
Opening the walkway in front would be good as well as the driveway. Scrapped the car on the bushes.

Cute lil' Ladybug
The cottage is ADORABLE!!!! It is certainly old but we like that. The check in process was strange to me but no one bothered us. We were just us two, but I cannot imagine having much more people in this cute lil' cottage. The backyard was great so glad we could have a fire outside since we could not have one inside. The walk to the lake was EASY. Too cold for us to swim but I wanted to. Great place to relax and do nothing, they even have a book on that!

So glad you enjoyed Ladybug and all it has to offer! Sad that you only gave us three stars with such a nice review. Ladybug is as described, a sweet rustic cottage. Check in is simple, open the door!

Hi Roger, we are glad you enjoyed Ladybug! Unfortunately we don't have anything to do with the timing of the billing- we don't even get paid until you check in. If you have an issue with VRBO I don't believe it should be reflected in your review of our home. Perhaps another site would be a better fit for your next vacation. In any event, hope you visit again! Be well.
It's rustic (but they told us that), needs some TLC n a good clean. Bathroom is a bit inconvenient if you get up multiple times during the night (lol 60+),but tolerable. It's cute, in a very convenient location to Sherman Concerts. Internet was not working for 1 day but i figured it out, toaster didn't work, wild vines are cumbersome to get in /out. Wish i had our weed shaker, lol. I don't know if had beach rights as not mention in rules. We had a nice stay.

Hi, thanks so much for you stay and your comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage cute, in a good location and relaxing. We only wish you had simply contacted us immediately upon check in rather than post a 3 star review about very simple, quick fixes.
The gardeners could have trimmed back vines, and management could have easily fixed or replaced the toaster, and addressed the internet issue with you immediately, so you would not have been without. In fact, within several hours of your review posting, the toaster was easily fixed and the vines trimmed back even more so than they were before.
Our charming cottage is indeed rustic as it was built over a hundred years ago. There is one bathroom, downstairs off the kitchen, as clearly stated in the property description.
The cottage is carefully and thoroughly cleaned between guests. If for some reason it did not meet your standards, again, you should have called and our cleaning staff would have promptly popped by to see what more they could do to meet your expectations.
There are deeded beach rights as it mentions in the binder, the description of the property and the rules. Again, had you simply reached out if you couldn't find this information for some reason, we could have confirmed this very easily.
You cannot really beat $120 for a two bedroom quaint cottage, nestled in the sweet town of Caroga, steps from the lake and as you mentioned Shermans, with a cozy front and back porch and beautiful large garden.
Regardless, we are very glad you enjoyed your stay and wish you safe travels.
A quaint charm filled cottage with no frills but all of the peace and quiet I so wanted. All of the necessities were there plus some thoughtful extra touch’s like umbrellas, slippers and extra beach towels .It was refreshing to be off the grid, a very short walk to the lake and an overall wonderful experience. I hope to get back to the lovely Lady Bug again soon!
We loved our time at Lady Bug. This is such a cute place - it is old and rustic as they say, but it is so charming. We sat on the front porch and read, watched movies on the smart TV (there is high speed wifi) and outside, sat around the fire pit and played horseshoes in the horse shoe its. The cottage is centrally located in a sweet little neighborhood, and is only a short block away from the lake and Shermans, where they have live music. The kids used the two bikes to bike around the village and area. We went on some great hikes, and swam at the lake. All in all a lovely stay and we will be back to Lady Bug!!
We had most of the family staying only 3 miles down the road. This was a perfect spot for my mom, dad and gramma to go to get away from the hectic main house! Such a sweet little home.

About the host

We are two sisters whose families own this property together. This home has been in two families prior to ours, and given many years of love to each family, watching their children grow up playing in the house and big yard, on the quiet, peaceful street and in the lake and surrounding lakes, mountains and woods. It is an old quaint cottage, and we love it. We hope it gives you and our families as much joy as it provided to its prior owners.
