About this property
Lovely Bright Garden Apartment With WiFi & Spa overlooking RSPB reserve. Brading
Foinavon – Your perfect holiday home, whatever the season, whatever the weather. You'll have plenty of space to yourselves
You've travelled south, straight towards the sun. You've crossed the water, you've arrived on a beautiful holiday Island, without all the hassles of going abroad (or having your luggage weighed!).
See yourself - you've just opened the door to your holiday home. You parked in your own space on the drive and walked down an easy-going flight of steps to peace and privacy, you are now out of sight of everyone. You're in your own little world, your haven, a full storey height below the busy road you arrived on, yet shielded from noise.
You wanted a private, clean, bright, thoughtfully designed, well equipped base for your holiday, conveniently positioned for the beaches or exploring the Island. That's what we've tried to create for you here.
In from the secure porch, now look around – either side of you are the two light, airy bedrooms, each room is of equal size, one with a King-size bed, the other, a pair of full-size 3' singles, complemented by all matching drawer and bedside units, also double wardrobes, more than adequate mirrors and a dressing top. The bedsides have a choice of both soft lights and reading lamps. Vertical blinds as well as thick curtains for a good night's sleep. Each room has USB sockets by the bedhead, too.
Through the hall, with mirrors bouncing the daylight around, left to the cosy sitting room, with it's patio door revealing THAT VIEW. East facing, for the morning sun, not a building in sight, looking across the lowlands of the RSPB reserve to Culver Down beyond. Step through the patio door onto the balcony, there's only the side neighbours visible. This is a perfect spot for breakfast, perhaps?
Back into the room, you see the two comfy settees, facing both the view and the swivel wall mount smart Sony TV. Also a good DAB radio (with bluetooth to play your own music through), and a USB wall socket for phone charging (unlimited, fast free WiFi from our fibre connection working right throughout the place).
On the shelves you'll find a good range of leaflets and flyers about the many varied attractions of the Island, some maps and even some local history books, if you're interested. We've also written up several driven outings, (starting from Foinavon) to help you find the best way to our choice of the best spots on the Island.
Also off the hall is the white, fully tiled bathroom – with the view – but it's private, none of your windows can even be seen from less than 200m. The shower has a big, fixed rainfall head as well as a flexible handset, over a P shape bath, with glass screen. Immediate, mains-pressure, hot water in this house, too, so there's no waiting for taps to run hot.
Next you find the fully equipped kitchen, with full sized fridge-freezer, also, a proper oven and hob for those who want to cook, Bosch dishwasher for everyone and (simple to use) a microwave, naturally. All the cooking and eating utensils you could need, a Bistro table – breakfast or dinner for two, or children's activities, maybe. The view as well, of course.
From the kitchen, you pass through a utility room with Bosch washing machine, drying lines available outside – we'll tumbledry free for you, if you ask.
Now, down some steps, and pause for a WOW. This is one huge conservatory, and it has casual seating for your whole party as well as a proper dining table and four chairs. Oh Yes - and a big, fully mosaic-tiled, in-ground spa at the far end, just ready, hot and waiting for you to use it! This is actually an eight seater design, so the four of you will have plenty of space.
The whole garden is exclusively yours, too. So step out onto the pergola terrace, then the lawn. That little summerhouse? That's for you, too. A pair of director chairs and somewhere to put your coffee. A perfect little spot.
Newly built is the 'Lookout deck' at the edge of the lower lawn, giving a wider view of the river and the unspoilt land beyond. Sit here a while with a drink.
There really is something for everyone at Foinavon, whatever the season.
From totally private sunbathing on the top lawn, to full central heating.
From birdwatching to stargazing – totally dark skies to the east, at the back.
From a short, easy drive to the beach, to Christmas dinner in the conservatory.
There will always be something to suit you.
Included in your rental is :- all bed linen (changed weekly for longer stays), duvets (choice of weight), towels – personal and bath size. We also leave you mattress toppers, just in case the beds don't suit you (not every bed can suit everybody). All cutlery, crockery and cooking requirements, electric, hot water, central heating etc.
We just don't believe in making extra charges.
All you need to bring with you is your personal requisites, clothes and beach towels.
Foinavon is all yours. Nobody will enter, nor will they come round to the back garden. It's all totally private.
Foinavon was built in the 1960's as a detached bungalow, where we raised our family in comfort. More recently we added an upper storey as a completely separate living unit, which is where we now live. Foinavon itself was replumbed, rewired and modernised throughout, with all new kitchen and bathroom, to bring it up to date to suit it's new purpose and give you the best experience we can offer.

About the host
Hosted by Sue & Rob Greenfield
We - Sue & Rob - both grew up on the Island and have always stayed living on our side of the water. We moved to Foinavon with our small daughters in 1991, drawn by it's situation and views. We've spent many happy years here, the girls attending the local schools before leaving for university. As teachers, one still lives and works on the Island, the other having moved to live and work on the mainland with her husband, whose work took them away. Every time she visits, it is important to her to take the scenic route, followed by a drive along the seafront, before arriving. That's what our Island does to you!
Rob has recently retired and partly looks after the property, Sue has now finished her work at the local hospital.
We chose to buy Foinavon (a bungalow at that time) as our home, some years ago primarily for it's location, it's outlook and ease of transport and travel. More recently we had the opportunity to invest in building a new home for ourselves; but, not wishing to lose our glorious views, we chose to build ourselves an independent apartment above Foinavon, which is where we now live.
Our guests now benefit from the spa, the large conservatory, stylish kitchen etc that we created originally for ourselves. We can't, of course, take the credit for that view!
Where else could you find these facilities, convenience, open outlook and, yet, privacy?
We really can't see ourselves moving from here; we'll continue to share our outlook with you, our guests.

We've tried to make Foinavon to be the place we'd love to visit ourselves.

What makes this property unique
Even after dark, Foinavon's views go on giving! Facing due east, with no development between us and the sea, we get some fantastic dark skies. You can watch the moon and stars rise over Culver Downs (and the Sunrise, if you want to be up that early).
There are so many countryside walks that you can start from Foinavon that it'd take you a week just to do the easiest ones. (and still have enough for your second week).
Do you want to walk to the sea? Barely over a mile. The full length of the Island to the Needles? About 25 miles, footpaths most of the way (there's a sponsored walk each spring).
A wide range of walks for everyone, all starting on your doorstep, level or energetic. In fact, if you're keen, you could be 400 feet up within a mile of your front door!
For drives out, you have quick and easy access to the whole of our beautiful Island, with few traffic hassles.
We've left you a range of maps and guides to give you some ideas.
We've also written some specially designed driving routes, starting from Foinavon, to help you see the best sights, avoiding the traffic and getting to know the Island better.
Do turn off that satnav over here, though - it will rarely take you the best way!
