About this property
Family home: Large family apartment + sauna area
Welcome to Villa La Source – Sea Side,
a large family apartment set in the historic district of seaside villas in Hermanville-sur-Mer, just steps from Sword Beach, a landmark D-Day site.
🌊 The sea is so close it calls to you every morning.
A gentle walk or jog along miles of endless sand.
Each evening, the last golden glimmers light up shared aperitifs with feet in the sand or at the water’s edge.
A house by the old railway line
The villa was built alongside the former railway line (now the coastal road) that linked Caen to the coastal resorts once very popular in the early 20th century: Hermanville-sur-Mer, Lion-sur-Mer, and Luc-sur-Mer.
At that time, the house hosted a bar-restaurant and offered a few rooms for sea-bathing holidaymakers. The spirit of hospitality was already present.
During World War II, the house was partly destroyed in the Battle of the breach at Hermanville, then rebuilt in the 1950s using war damage funds. It retains its ground floor from the 1800s and its upper floor dates from 1950. Unfortunately, it lost its original Anglo‑Norman roof.
It was then divided into two independent units:
upstairs: a large sea-facing apartment for the children and grandchildren of the former owners,
ground floor: a peaceful, flowery apartment, meant for grandparents, facing the marshland bordering this area.
The house long belonged to the Diocese of Bayeux and was inhabited by a priest. From there it got its divine name: La Source.
The two parts each have their own entrance on the two streets that flank the property.
🏡 Your lodging: the upper part, sea side
You will stay in the upper portion of the villa, a bright and spacious duplex, with:
independent access via an outdoor staircase,
a fully enclosed private garden with a sunlit terrace,
and access to the sauna area.
It can comfortably host up to 10 people, with:
5 double bedrooms,
a bright living room for parents and a small TV nook for children,
a dining room,
a dining kitchen with sea view—perfect for watching the tides at breakfast,
one full bathroom and 3 showers,
and many cozy corners for living, laughing, staying together… or taking a little quiet time!
🌞 The beach? One minute on foot
From the garden, a quiet street leads directly to the beach. No road to cross, just the path straight to the sand.
In 1 minute, you reach the fine sandy beach.
And at the end of the road, the esplanade is pedestrian only—no cars, just the sound of gulls and children laughing.
👨👩👧👦 A living cocoon for large tribes
La Source – Sea Side is more than just a space—it’s a living family home with soul, history, and an opening toward grand vacations together.
We cook together, play in the garden, share memories… and sometimes discover hidden historical anecdotes.
