About this property

A Typical House - Santana - Parking - Free Wifi

The Pico House is a typical country house with thatched roof surrounded of 3000 meters of cultivated land and fruit trees. Santana gets in the way of burning (Forest Park) 5 minutes from Laurel forest and taken and paths.
The typical neighborhood is very quiet and friendly always ready to help.
The local supermarket is very well supplied and is a 5-minute walk away. The center of the small town (Town Hall, pharmacy, post office, police, health center, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants) is a 10 minute walk away.
Very easy access to various paths taken and (guides and maps in the house).
The pebble beaches (small and plump stones) closer are a 10-minute drive, Faial and São Jorge, the latter with a pool.
Pico House was built in 1966 as holiday cottage. Its thatched roof, kept using traditional methods, its significantly larger and also better equipped than local houses, mostly rehabilitated with tiles instead of thatch, makes it almost unique.
So it is an experience beyond very pleasant, quite curious and unusual to spend a few days vacation in this house.
Ideal for nature lovers who want to relax and explore our natural beauties.
The house has 4 bed rooms being 3 singles and 1 double, a full bathroom with bath, a fully equipped kitchen (there are no washing machines and dishwasher) a common living room and dining room. On the first floor are the double bedroom and two singles. There are two access stairs to the upper floor, one inside and one outside.
The house in winter can be cold and as it has no central heating there are several heaters and heating for the beds of the beds.

Great stay

Fantastic authentic house on a good location. Close to supermarket and hiking spots. Rita is a superb host. The house is large with a nice garden. Perfect place to explore the north eastern part of Madeira!!

Lovely house and garden

We, a family of four plus a grandmother, stayed at the house 8 nights in the end of February and had a lovely stay. Both the house and the garden are beautiful and located in a stunning setting with mountains in the background.The house is well equipped with everything you need. The kitchen has a lot of utensils, spices, pots etc so cooking is a good option if you prefer. We felt it was a bit cold inside at times so a pro tip is to bring slippers or socks to wear. There are heating mattresses in all beds and a couple of radiators placed around the house. The garden has a lot of citrus trees, bananas, flowers etc and is well taken care of. There are tables, chairs and sunbeds so you can enjoy the outdoors when the weather is nice.The house is located a 10-15 minute walk from central Santana with restaurants, pharmacy and some shops. A big supermarket can be found 5-10 minutes walk away.We really enjoyed our stay and we feel it was a good spot for exploring the island, especially the north side. A rental car is a highly recommended if you stay in this house! need for a nice stay.

Maravilhoso So great Fabuleux La plus belle et desirable maison qui soit, devant laquelle on était passé plusieurs fois ces années-ci et qu’on rêvait d’habiter. C’est enfin réalisé, et, hormis le temps, froid et pluvieux au même moment, tout fut parfait, correspondant à nos rêves. Il y a le grand jardin avec ses fleurs, ses arbres, et deux moutons dans leur enclos dont un voisin vient s’occuper, il y a l’immensité du paysage de montagne avec sa lumière, ses nuages soudains, ses forêts, et il y a la maison elle-même, pareille à un dessin d’Alice in Wonderland, avec son toit de chaume, ses fenêtres et volets ouvragés, son décor de meubles et bibelots anciens comme en préservent certaines familles attachées aux objets d’autrefois, ceux des parents et grands-parents souvent. Les lits sont confortables, agrémentés d’un tissu chauffant pour y entrer, ce qui est agréable en hiver, avec un temps peu clément. Par dessus tout, Rita a été la plus adorable et attentionnée des hôtesses, nous accueillant avec un grand sourire, un premier janvier, disponible pour un peu de conversation, ayant eu l’attention d’acheter quelques victuailles, vu que tous les magasins étaient fermés, ayant déposé sur la table une coupe avec des fruits, et même deux vases aux fleurs blanches fraîchement cueillies. Les quelques échanges entre nous durant le séjour ont été simples et amicaux par WhatsApp.

Charming and relaxing

If you want a quiet country hillside setting stay this is the place. The home is an older country home with thatched roof. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Was nice in the morning to have breakfast outside. Very close to Santana square (less then 5 min drive). Rita, bless her heart, was patient in helping me find the place. Also patient with helping me fix a blown fuse. Her gardener and his wife are close by and friendly and helpful. Overall I had a wonderful stay.

Das schöne Landhaus

Rita hat uns persönlich begrüßt und sie hatte sogar Obst und Brot gekauft. Der Garten ist schöner als im Internet zu sehen. Wer gern ein rusticales Ambiente mag, ist hier genau richtig. Sehr angenehm waren die beheizten Betten. Schön wäre noch ein Shuttleservice zum Flugplatz. Rena und Hubert

A unique and very special housing

We loved this house with its wonderful garden. It is unique. If you are tired of hotel rooms without atmosphere - this is the right accommodation for you. Not everything is perfect, but some things are unforgettable great. We loved to have our morning coffee in bed with open door and windows and listen to the awakening nature - the birds and the goat. Rita - the owner - is very friendly and helpful. She surprised us with some local food and drinks when we arrived. We felt very welcome ! We liked walking the levadas. The most beautiful is just 10 Minutes away ! So everything was perfect for us and we had a great time.

Our first visit to Madeira.

As this was our first visit to Maderia we had no idea where we were staying. The house was within an easy 30 min drive from Funchal Airport on a superb road. The house itself from outside was like something out of a child's fairytale. Thatched roof, old oak doors and white painted external walls. Inside on the ground floor there was a spacious living room with plenty of chairs, cupboards, television and heaters which is as well as they were needed nearly every evening. The kitchen had a modern cooker and fridge freezer and new electric kettle and coffee making machine. There were lots of pots, pans, cooking utensils and glasses. A first class kitchen. The bathroom/WC were also on the ground floor and were adequate. The water pressure was very low and it was a bit of an art taking a shower. There was also a small bedroom on the ground floor with a beautiful, if fairly small, four poster bed. Upstairs was reached by a narrow and steep wooden staircase. There were three lovely bedrooms one of which had a veranda and access to outside. The house was spacious and really lovely. The only complaint besides the water pressure was that it was rather dark at night even with all the lights on. There was facilities for sitting outside at the front and in the garden at the side of the house. The problem was that the sun, when it did shine, soon disappeared from the front and the side garden grass was left very long and was often wet. The worst thing about the house was the drive and entry on to the road. The drive was extremely narrow and fairly steep and the exit through the narrow gates onto the road was blind. You had to listen and hope nothing was coming up or down. I think a mirror opposite the entrance is a must! The house is set in wonderful quiet countryside, when you can see it through the low cloud. There are beaches (well what goes for beaches in Madeira), swimming pools, village bars, restaurants, wonderful walks and many other places to see within a few minutes drive. The road to the top of a 3,000ft plus mountain passes the bottom of the garden. The one thing that spoilt our holiday was that it was too cool to sit out in the garden in the evening and we had to go indoors and put the heaters on around 7-00pm. I loved Madeira and where we stayed, my wife was not so keen.
