About this property
Stunning Private Compound with Hot Tub, Nearby Beach, Flat Lawn, at ski resort
Beautiful, remodeled home has everything you need for a great vacation! The house is over 5,000 square feet with 4 suites and 2 bunk rooms. It sits on two acres adjacent to state lands and is below Homewood Mountain Resort (with good snow you can ski through trees back home). We're also two blocks from our homeowners association private beach-- where we have all the toys and chairs you need to enjoy the lake! You have it all right here (except for noise and crowds...)
The house and guest house frame the front yard-- perfect for all types of lawn games. The main house has a beautiful covered deck overlooking it. It's where you want to be on those hot summer afternoons when a squall blows through. Note: rent the guest house separately for guests that need more space but it will not be occupied by another party during your stay. You'll have our 2 acre property to yourselves!
Enter the house and there's a mud room and powder room off the entry. Pass into the living/dining/kitchen area, which is all open. The game room offers a bit of seclusion while still allowing you to be part of the action. It's fully stocked with games! There's another covered deck off the kitchen where the built-in deluxe BBQ is located. In back is a sunny deck with two large picnic tables and the hot tub.
Behind the house is a beautiful year-round creek that cascades down behind the house, giving you great background noise and beautiful views. The rear yard is another great place to hang out, surrounded by forest.
The living room features a huge wood-burning fireplace that adds to the ambiance of the mountains (and a 50" TV...). We stock wood and kindling for guests.
The dining room features a custom table that seats 14 people. The kitchen has soaring windows and high ceilings making it a bright and happy place to cook your meals or at least make a cup of coffee... We have a Miele double oven (one steam), microwave, 2 dish washers, a large fridge + a beverage center, and everything you should need to cook great meals!
The game room is probably the most beloved in the house. It's cozy with a game table surrounded by book cases and cabinets filled with games of all types. The window seat at the back is a great place to take a nap, read a book, or listen in to those playing games.
Upstairs is the beautiful master suite with a king bed and two other luxurious suites each with queen beds and private baths. The master bath has a free-standing tub, large shower, double vanity, and separate water closet.
All beds have luxurious Ralph Lauren sheets and the baths are stocked with L'Occitane products. We have beautiful towels, hand towels, and wash cloths in each bathroom and beach towels for everyone to use. We also stock the house with toilet paper, paper towels, laundry and cleaning supplies. You should have what you need for a very comfortable stay!
On the top floor is the huge bonus room, two bunk rooms, and their private bathroom. The bonus room has a TV area with large sectional and hanging chair, and a large table for games, homework, or drawing. There are tons of books on the bookcases and shelves full of games and art supplies.
The main bunk room has 4 twin beds, each with a charging port and reading light. The smaller semi-private room, enclosed by 2 barn doors, has two more twin beds. Their bathroom has a trough sink and separate shower room and water closet-- there's enough room for everyone to be comfortable!
The bottom level has another large private suite with queen bed and private bath. The bottom level also contains the laundry room with oversized machines.
The yard has many great places to hang out-- the seating area around the firepit, the front deck, the back deck with its hot tub, the lawns, and a guest favorite, the hammock next to the creeks lovely cascades.
Because the house sits on approximately 2 acres, it's very private. In summer the landscaping is lush and beautiful. In winter it's a wonderland-- much of it sloped perfectly for incredible sled runs and jumps.
The bike path is nearby where you can ride, walk, jog to numerous state parks, restaurants, Tahoe City, or Squaw Valley. You can also walk the path, or through the neighborhood, to Eagle Rock, a local attraction you can climb (more of a steep walk) for incredible views of the lake and mountains.
There are trails nearby to quiet lakes, abandoned gold mines. There is a great restaurant within 2 blocks-- Swiss Lakewood with its great Alpine cuisine. And, if you just want coffee or a sandwich, you can go to Obexers Market (and pick up some wine and cheese or dinner for the evening).
I have tons of local recommendations to share and am always happy to answer questions about the area so you can make the most of this incredible place.
We hope you'll create some great memories with your family and friends as we have over the years at this beautiful property.

Nathan, so happy you guys enjoyed your stay! Thanks for spending your birthday with. Come back anytime. We’d love to have you again. Take care, vince
We had a great stay here celebrating a birthday and spending a few days skiing. The house is fantastic, really comfortable, spacious, and thoughtfully laid out for a group. Having both the main house and guest house worked perfectly for our group and gave everyone plenty of room while still keeping everyone together. The kitchen and dining area are great for gathering, and the game room and hot tub made it an easy place to relax after skiing. The whole property feels private and peaceful, and everything was clean and well stocked. One small note for skiers: while the location is very close to Homewood and access is easy, it’s not truly ski-in/ski-out in the sense of skiing directly from the door to a lift. Still, getting to the mountain was simple and quick for us. You could do a tree run from glory hole, but not for most. Overall it’s a beautiful, comfortable place for a group trip.
It was everything it was advertised to be and more
It was a vacation in itself and the owner was available and helpful at all times

My husband and I come to Tahoe every year and every other year we bring the whole family. This year we had eight adults, a toddler and 2 babies. Our VRBO was perfect! Our host was wonderful in terms of communication throughout the reservation process, upon our arrival and if we had any questions during the week. The trampoline on the lake and the other lake toys were awesome to use. Grateful for a fantastic week! Highly recommend this home for large groups.

Margaret, Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad that you and your group had a great time-- and enjoyed the new, huge water trampoline and toys! Thanks so much for staying with us. Please come back again. Vince
Beautiful home and great location. The house has everything that you could want or need. The host was responsive, informative and also provided a lot of suggestions on what to do and restaurants in the area. We would definitely go back and hope to make it an annual thing. Highly recommend!

Pearl, We're so glad you had a great time at our home! Thanks for taking great care of our house. Please come back anytime!! Vince
We had the most incredible time at Vince's Trout Lodge. We have been coming to Tahoe for years, and this property is hands down the best rental you will find in Lake Tahoe. You will not find a better location in Lake Tahoe, perfectly situated on the West Shore in Homewood. You have it all right there - the best lake views, walking access to boat, kayak etc rentals, and some of the best restaurants on the lake. The landscaping around the home and quality of every detail of the home is exceptional -- clean, high-quality, and beautifully decorated. We had such a fun time, and we could not recommend renting this home more.

First off, Vincent the host could not have been more accommodating. He provided a wealth of local information both prior to and during our stay. Quite simply, the finest host I have worked with on VRBO. Thank you! The property is beautiful and well maintained. The setting along a rushing creek is private, but still close to the lake. Our large, multi-generational group had plenty of space to relax, sleep, and play. We ate every meal at the house and the kitchen was very well appointed. Only wish we could’ve stayed longer than 3 days. We would absolutely rent this property again!!

Beautiful home, in a private & pretty setting. Bit of hitch upon arrival as there had been a miscommunication with the cleaning crew & the house hasn't been prepared. But the owner was responsive & the house did get cleaned that day. Sadly it just lost the initial impact of an exciting arrival.

Hi Jude- Thank you so much for your stay with us and we are so sorry about the cleaning snafu as we wanted the home to be perfect for your arrival! Thankfully we found a reliable new cleaning crew after your issue and hopefully this situation will not happen again. Wishing you all the best! Vince & Amanda
Rented this for a family getaway. Eight adults and four kids under 10. Absolutely amazing from the house itself to everything available from dishes and supplies to games. House has great decor and probably the best appliances and supplies of any rental we have ever gotten. Equally impressive was the communication with Vince the owner. Very responsive and accommodating. Rental is quiet and located between North and South Tahoe; easy 30 minute drive to get to either. Usually do 3-4 rentals a year. This was the best rental and best owner we have dealt with. Definitely recommend.
We just returned from our second year staying in this beautiful home in Homewood. There were 10 of us and 3 generations. The house met all our needs. The house is fabulous- there are plenty of bedrooms and a Great Room where we could all gather. The kitchen has everything we could imagine for dining at home. And the whole house is just beautifully furnished. The hot tub was right outside and the owner had installed a new outdoor grill. Our conversations with the owner were very helpful and cordial. We walked down to the private beach everyday. The home provides kayaks and paddle boards which we all used. We thoroughly enjoyed the woodsy neighborhood and the ease of getting around the North Shore.
This mountain home at Homewood is a special place. It’s amazing for a group of 2-3 families with kids. Top floor is a kids retreat complete with entertainment room and bunks, middle floor is like a fancy hotel for the adults (3 rooms), first floor is awesome living space for everyone with game room and huge fireplace, table for 14, and fully stocked kitchen. Hot Tub and Barbecue on the back deck are ready to go. There is everything you need for an epic winter vacation for your whole group. Kids loved sledding right on the property, building snowman, and enjoying all the games and toys at the house. Adults enjoyed cooking, sitting by the fireplace, the game room and relaxing in the hot tub. The owner is super responsive and want to make sure everything is perfect.
Only nit picks would be that it’s not truly ski-in/out to Homewood unless you want to attempt a gnarley tree run. However the Homewood resort is just down the street so it’s not a big issue. Also, we had some trouble with the ovens but that’s mostly due to our inexperience cooking with propane powered oven. Owner I believe is planning to upgrade in the near future. Bottom line, don’t hesitate to book this place, it’s a gem.
Most relaxing and beautiful mountain home we’ve stayed in.

Paul,
Thanks for your great review (and for staying at our home!) We are planning to upgrade the house to natural gas (we almost got it converted before huge snowstorm hit, but now we're delayed until Spring...)
Really happy you had fun and the kids had a great time. Please come stay with us again.
Take care,
Vince
There is not much more I can say above and beyond the title. The house is in a stunning location, beautifully decorated but not at all precious, and really close to everything we wanted to do - especially skiing at Homewood which is a great, user-friendly throwback of a ski resort. The kitchen was where we did most meals and had every dish and pan and implement we could want, but every restaurant we hit - Za’s, Sunnyside, and Swiss Lakewood - was also great. The beds were wonderful - and we have some really picky (maybe even annoying) members of our crew. And lastly, the sledding on the hill into which the house is built was better than anything we would have paid for. Can’t recommend this home enough. Thank you so very much.

Had a family reunion at this home and it was amazing. Each couple had their own room and bathroom which was nice. The home provides a lot of extras such as kayaks to board games. I recommend this home.
Beautiful house and outside grounds for multiple families
After our wedding at Westshore Cafe, the bride and grooms families stayed another 4 days here. It was so relaxing. The hot tub and hammock over the stream were big hits. The open floor plan and large kitchen made it easy with our large group. The bedrooms were all spacious and nicely decorated. I would highly recommend this property to my friends and family. Nothing but kudos to the owners.
Such a wonderful place to stay in Tahoe. Upon arriving it really felt immediately like home. The design is impeccable and very warm and comfortable. All amenities were top quality and the owners have really thought of every detail not only for themselves when they stay but for guests that make staying in this home a very personable experience. The location is perfect. Not in the busy tourist areas, but a lovely secluded private almost getaway neighborhood of Homewood. Just at the base of the Homewood mountain only a very short distance from the lake. The back yard opens to a huge beautiful forested landscape with a creek running along the backside that just made the whole experience idyllic. And the communication with the owners felt like caring people who obviously not only know their way around Tahoe and are will to share their advice like.a family friend; but also have exceptional taste and care about experiences.
We loved our stay and when we return to Tahoe, we would absolutely be excited to return to our new getaway home!
Thank you Vince and Amanda.
This was by far one of the best properties we have ever rented on VRBO. Clean, perfectly restored ski house that was in a beautiful location. Our host could not have been kinder or more available. We would highly recommend to others but hope to stay again!
5 star accommodations! The home and property exceeded all expectations. The house is beautifully decorated, comfortable and spacious! We loved how quiet it was and away from others, but close enough to groceries and shopping and restaurants when needed. Just hanging out at the home was a vacation in itself. We wanted snow and we got it! Vince had all the snow “toys” we needed to enjoy without going anywhere. Vince and Amanda are top-notch hosts and all the information and recommendations they helped us with were so appreciated since this was our first trip. Vince was so easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions or needs, including helping us find a place to stay due to an unforeseen power outage from a winter storm that kept us from Trout Lodge on the day of our arrival. We would definitely book again!
Wonderful property. Great host. The setting is lovely. The house has everything you need for a group. Top shelf finishes and a highly functional floor plan.
We had an amazing stay at the Trout Lodge! The pictures don’t do this place justice! Very kid friendly as well as being a beautifully designed home! The homeowner, Vince, was very helpful and responsive to my questions leading up to the trip. We hope to come back soon!
Great property, nice amenities, spaciously apportioned for a big family. Be prepared to hike your supplies up to the house, could be gnarly in winter snow. Great snow play area right on property next to house. Driveway definitely need 4x4 in winter. TV and Internet a little sketchy.

Response from VrboOwner on 12 Feb, 2021
Clark, Sorry that the weather made the drive difficult. I warn guests-- the blessing and curse of the property is its setting. It's private and on the resort but the driveway can be tough in the winter in the wrong conditions (which you had, unfortunately). We get more snow in Homewood than most places on the lake because we're in the shadow of Mt. Ellis but that's why the resort is there.
I didn't know about the TV or Internet issues so I'll look into that. The TV was just replaced so it might not be installed properly. Sorry about that.
Despite those issues, I hope you and your family had a great time and got to enjoy the upside of lots of fluffy snow during your stay.
About the host
Hosted by Amanda Hoenigman
We have had a home on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe for over 25 years. We first fell in love with the area during the winter but grew to love the summers even more. We decided to double-down on the area in 2012 when we purchased this home (at the time abandoned).
We love architecture and design and had a great time completing this home that had been boarded up for three years and was ripped down to studs. We had a great time furnishing it (although it's a big house and took a ton of furniture, and pillows, and towels, and sheets, and artwork, and everything else!)
We love nature and are both very involved with protecting and enhancing national parks and other natural areas. Vince is also now very involved in the long-term protection and restoration of Lake Tahoe and the region.
We live in San Francisco. Our daugter is in college in Chicago and our son is in graduate school in Manhattan. We all love to meet at our family retreat in Tahoe. We hope that you will build great memories there as we have over the years.
Why they chose this property
The house sits on a beautiful property, nearly 2 acres, at the foot of Homewood Resort. A beautiful year-round creek tumbles past the property creating the most peaceful sound. It's very private and quiet.
The property is a few blocks from our homeowner's beach, which provides great lake access during the summer months. We are also walking distance to great amenities, Swiss Lakewood Restaurant, as well as a small grocery store and deli. You can rent boats, jet skis, bikes, and paddle boards all just a short walk away. We're also on the bike path that can take you to Meeks Bay, Palisades (formerly Squaw Valley) and Tahoe City.
The house itself is really beautiful and has a great "old Tahoe" feel. The front porch is a great place to relax and watch the kids play lawn games or sled down the hills (or have a nice cocktail with some nice gourmet cheeses from the nearby store...) The patio around the fire pit is my favorite place to be as the sun is passing behind the amber maple-- you can sit in its doppled shade and have an nice cocktail and cheese (you might be noticing a theme for us...) At night the fire pit is a great place to gather for s'mores or just that extra warmth to take the chill out of the evening.
The lawn isn't big enough for a football game but it's great for bocce ball or croquet or badminton. We have tons of lawn games at the house as well as horse shoes which we setup between the house and the guest house.
The hot tub is a great place to relax after a long day of adventures. I keep the jets off so the sound of the creek is all you hear. The back deck makes a great place for a large outdoor dinner.
We built the house to be a place for our family and for friends to get together. The dining table has hosted many large dinners. The game room is always filled with people playing games day and night. The bonus room upstairs gives the kids a separate space to hang out and each bedroom suite is a perfect retreat. It's a great place to be!
What makes this property unique
There are many beautiful homes around the lake but I think there are a few things that make this home really special. It's a large home with a modern floor plan designed for a large family or friends group. Each room is a suite and then there is the bonus room and bunk rooms for kids, teens, or unattached bachelors... There are many spaces where people can do their own thing while either being completely alone or on the edge of the action. The large custom-made dining table can host large dinner gatherings. You'll have lots of great time together without falling all over each other.
The property is pretty unique. With almost two acres, you'll have privacy and peace to enjoy yourselves-- the loudest noise being the waters of our creek tumbling past the house. The slope is perfect for sledding and the trees and landscaping are beautiful year-round. We have easy lake access nearby and are on the ski resort and walking distance to great restaurants.
We have always loved the West Shore. It's the quiet part of the lake with fewer hotels, large state parks, and some of the best restaurants. There are tons of hiking and biking trails nearby, beautiful beaches (my favorite is Meek's Bay). You can rent boats, jet skis, bikes, paddle boards (we have 2 but for larger groups...) all a short distance away. Everything you need is close by.
We always hear from people that this house isn't a typical Airbnb or VRBO home and it's not. We built it for our family and we maintain it for our family. We try to stock it with everything you'll need to have a great stay and we're always excited to give whatever tips will help our guests enjoy themselves. We love sharing the lake, the West Shore, and our home with our guests.
