About this property

Walk to Palisades Tahoe + Pine Patio | Olympic Valley | Mt. Jola

Some rentals are just places to sleep; Mt. Jola is a piece of local history you get to live in for a few days. Built in 1955, this Olympic Valley home once housed reporters covering the 1960 Winter Olympics, and it still wears that era proudly. Step inside and you're somewhere — and sometime — else: eclectic, old-school interiors layered with colorful art, patterned wallpaper, and wood on nearly every surface. Even the beams have a backstory; as the home's lore goes, they once framed the railroad tunnels of Donner Summit.

The whole place has the feel of an oversized treehouse. A charming library nook doubles as a workspace for anyone who has to check in with the real world, big windows pull the surrounding forest inside, and a sprawling patio stretches out under the pines for slow mornings and long evenings in the mountain air.

Best of all, you're right in the heart of it. The ski lifts and the Village at Palisades Tahoe sit within walking distance, so you can ski, drop your gear, and wander over to the shops and restaurants without ever moving the car. After a day on the mountain, the village's spots for a bite or an après-ski drink are an easy stroll away — then it's back to your very own slice of Olympic Valley history.

AvantStay provides an upscale experience with services that elevate your stay and save time so you can enjoy every moment. Guests have access to a 24/7 support team and a tech-enabled concierge to book services, such as fridge stocking, mid-stay cleanings, and private chefs. For anything you need (or never knew you needed), we’re at your service!

Situated in the snowy Sierra Nevada Mountain range straddling the border between California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe offers stunning panoramic scenery and year-round adventure. Visitors flock here especially to ski and snowboard on dramatic slopes that seem to fall into the abyss of the lake’s cobalt blue water. Whether you’re looking for a day in the mountains or a booze cruise on the lake, you can have it all in Tahoe.

Great House

Our whole crew really enjoyed our stay. This is our second hear in the home and we saw improvements since last year - more kitchen supplies and tools, space heaters, etc - that made the stay even better than before. Kudos to the caretaker, who spent the last three days of our stay shoveling and snowblowing!!

Mt Jola Family Joy Time

We had a wonderful week long stay with family; 6 adults, 2 young grandsons and their baby brother. The fresh heavy snow was a thrilling experience but caused travel issues and delayed our family arrive by 48 hrs. House is very spacious allowing everyone to be together or separate as desired. We sensed the home’s history and owners love of the mountain in every room of this house. Excellent libraries and fun games throughout. Kitchen is very well appointed. One negative input: the worst ever T-Paper. Very thin, stiff and not ‘user-friendly’. At this price for this location we would have expected quality T-Paper. We will definitely consider another stay at Mt Jola.

Thank you, Peggy! We're happy to hear your family enjoyed the spaciousness, character, and thoughtful touches of the home despite the weather challenges. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the toilet paper — we'll make sure to address that for future guests. We'd love to welcome you back to Mt. Jola!

Ski break 2024

We had a lovely stay at this property which is located right next to a slope down to the chair lifts. Great skiing and the Palisades is now one of our favorite locations for skiing! However, there is no easy access. We had to walk uphill from the house on the road with ski gear to then climb over the snow bank (that was quite high this season with so much snow). Not so easy but possible. No one had commented on this when we did the research to find a place to stay. Mt.Jola is just a short walk into the Olympic Village which was very convenient to go for shopping or food. We also enjoyed driving to Lake Tahoe and into Truckee to some very nice restaurants. Parking - we had a group and rented a big van which had difficulty getting up the hill to the house on the curvy lane when it was snow covered. There is really no place to turn around. But the parking space 'over the bridge' as noted is a short walk which is where we had to park the van. We parked a car right at the house but note the space is directly besides a car parked for the next property (downhill) so it is a tight squeeze. The house is very eclectic in style and funky which was entertaining but a few points need to be made: * gas fireplaces were very difficult to work and we could not get the master bedroom one to light * several doors/closets are locked - more than a typical home rental * some closets were not locked but loaded with things so the storage is very limited even with so many rooms and floors
