About this property
Barnhaus -- Beautiful home on quiet cul-du-sac short distance from the beach
Welcome to the “Barnhaus.” This newly built home was designed for family gatherings as well as quiet and relaxed getaways. This house is located on a quiet cul-de-sac surrounded by green space. The back deck looks out onto a forested green space with a creek. It is a wonderful extension of the home to relax, bird watch, or sit in the shade on a warm day. The large windows and natural lighting in the home are spectacular.
Floor Plan: This wonderfully designed and furnished home has an open floor plan between the kitchen, family room and dining area. The family room is the perfect gathering spot with large windows that look out into the trees, a fireplace, and Samsung Smart TV. The three bedrooms consist of two main level bedrooms (master and guest), and the loft that serves as the third bedroom with game-bonus room area, two full baths, laundry room, front deck, large back deck with furniture, and a garage. The beds accommodate 8 people. Master bedroom with master bathroom has a king size bed with Samsung Smart TV. Guest room has a queen size bed with Samsung Smart TV. The third bedroom/loft has two sets of bunk beds (twin on top and full on bottom), with a Samsung Smart TV, with games in the loft closet.
Kitchen: This modern and functional kitchen has granite counters, large farm sink, duel fuel range, microwave, and refrigerator with ice maker. Large pantry/closet off the kitchen allows for plenty of storage and there is an extra refrigerator in the garage to store food and drinks. The kitchen contains dishes, utensils, serving dishes, cookware, baking dishes, hand mixer, toaster and coffee maker. There is a nice Weber propane BBQ in the garage for barbecuing out front.
Children: Children are welcome. Please note that we do not provide a baby-gate, high chair, or porta-crib. The master bedroom is the only room large enough to set-up a porta-crib. Children need to be supervised on the decks so as not to climb the deck railings. In addition, please be aware of the pony wall in the loft. Please review the rental agreement. The house is on a perfect street for children to play and ride their bikes out front.
NO Pets -- Sorry! NO Parties or Events
Extras: Enjoy a bonfire on the beach using the firewood stacked in the garage. There are beach chairs in the garage to use at the beach or outside at the house. The deck is furnished with Adirondack chairs and end tables. Beach towels are also provided.
Local Attractions: Our beautiful beach is a seven mile stretch from the base of Neahkahnie Mountain to the Nehalem Bay Jetty. At low tide you can walk to the tide pools at the base of Neahkahnie Mountain. A short walk along the beach will take you to Manzanita's main street - Laneda Avenue. There you will find charming shops, excellent restaurants, two grocery stores, bakeries, coffee shops and public restrooms. A few miles south will bring you to the towns of Nehalem and Wheeler. These quaint towns offer more dining options, great antique shops, quilt store and access to the bay and river for fishing, crabbing, and kayaking.
Nearby Attractions: There are great hiking trails on Neahkahnie Mountain and nearby Oswald State park. The surfers go to Short Sands Beach. Visit the many State Park beaches along 101. Kayaking on Nehalem River and in Nehalem Bay. Ride your bikes on the trails in nearby Nehalem State Park, through town, or on other biking routes. Nehalem State Park also offers a beautiful beach with sand dunes. There is a local golf course in Manzanita. Highly, highly recommended! We love our stay! Super clean and comfortable and fun! 4 minute drive into town. We all loved and I hope to return! Wonderful stay and place. Thank you!
We had a wonderful stay at Barnhaus. The house was spotless, very well equipped with everything we needed, and located on a quiet street that made for a relaxing visit. The host was great at communicating, always responsive and helpful whenever we had questions. Overall, it was a perfect spot for our trip and we would definitely stay here again.
We had the best time during our stay. The interior is beautifully done. It’s secluded yet very accessible to the beach and downtown. It’s even within walking distance to one of the best hikes on the coast.
We always look forward to our stay at the Barnhaus and this year was especially fantastic. The house is perfect for us - great location, modern and spacious, clean and comfortable. The hosts are kind, responsive, and accessible. We’ll be back next year!
The house is cozy yet functional. It is in close proximity to some beautiful beaches to the north and south of it location. Wonderful place to vacation
Our family has been staying here the past few years and it just gets better each time. Super easy check in and comms with the owner, fantastic location, beautiful and spacious house. We’ll be back next summer as it’s our go-to spot in Manzanita!
This is the second time we’ve stayed here and it was even better than I remembered it. Terrific house, comfy beds, well-stocked kitchen, and wonderful location. Super nice and responsive hosts as well. Thanks for another lovely stay!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Barnhaus! The setting was breathtaking—a peaceful retreat tucked into the woods on a gentle hillside, offering both seclusion and easy access to nearby attractions. It struck the perfect balance between being a cozy hideaway and a convenient home base for exploring the surrounding sites. The Barnhaus itself was thoughtfully prepared, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The owners were attentive in making sure our needs were met. We especially appreciated the well-stocked beach supplies, which made our outings much easier and more enjoyable. It truly is a charming spot—welcoming, serene, and perfectly situated for both relaxation and adventure. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable getaway.
Impeccably maintained and detailed house in a secluded and quiet area of Neahkanie, but still within walking distance of beach and Manzanita. My whole family loved this house and can't wait to return.
Beautiful property, great location, responsive hosts. Secluded yet close to it all. All the amenities you could want and ones you didn’t know you wanted (heated bathroom floors!). Owners very nice and property very clean and comfortable.
Great house in a very quiet location. We saw Elk in the meadow behind the house almost every morning. The neighborhood is small and very quiet. Close to the beach and downtown.

About the host
Hosted by Jon and Katie McLoughlin
Jon and Katie McLoughlin bought this property in 2004 with the idea to build a family beach house. Jon McLoughlin, who is a general contractor in West Linn, Oregon, designed and built this house. We enjoy coming here as a family. We hope someday it will be our retirement home. We are excited to share it with others and hope they love it as much as we do.
