Nice small cottage, inconsistencies in listing

We just returned from a week's stay at this property. It is a very nice small cottage, but 6 people would be very cramped. It was fine for 2 of us, even 4 would be ok. When we arrived the back door was unlocked and several windows were open. I needed to contact the owner as there were some clothing items left by the last renters, and also told him the door was unlocked. He said no one had been in there in two weeks so that was strange. There was also food from the previous renter left in the fridge. The main light in the kitchen did not work so trying to cook dinner had to be done via our flashlights on our phone. The listing says there is a King size bed in one room, this is inaccurate, there is a Queen in the master, a Double in the 2nd bedroom and a set of bunk beds in the 3rd. The fireplace in the master is a nice touch. Everything that you would need is there, but the toaster hadn't been cleaned in years probably, and both kettles were covered in lime deposits. The wine glasses had fingerprints all over them and some of the cutlery was dirty with hardened food on them. The kitchen sink was clogged and would not drain well. The worst was the shower curtain that had rust stains on the top and mold all over the bottom. These are small things, but when you add them all up they are a detriment to our holiday. Also in the photos it *appears* there are 2 outdoor fire pits. In the listing they are not mentioned one way or another. Once you have made your deposit you get a renter's guide advising there is no outdoor burning, yet when we arrived we could see there had clearly been outdoor fires in several locations recently and I took photos to show it was not us. One of the reasons I booked this property was the outdoor fire pits - yes this is on me, I should have double checked with the owners, but the pictures clearly show what look like fire pits. Another inconsistency in the description is that the lakes is just steps from the patio. The patio is behind the cottage which backs onto a field - the lake is across the road and at the end of an empty lot also owned by the cottage owners and there is no patio near the water. I think this cottage was nice for the price, but the owners should make sure the description is accurate, and be clear about the lack of outdoor fire burning. Also make sure your appliances/cutlery/dish ware are clean. And please replace that horrid shower curtain.

A relaxing getaway

This was our second time staying and we love this spot! It’s so quiet and relaxing and great to have access to the lake (which was really warm even in September). The renovated kitchen was really nice and opens up the whole place. It is a true cottage so has a great homey feel which helped us settle in to vacation-mode right away. Hope to go back again!

Great place!

We had a great time and really enjoyed Lake Simcoe. House was as advertised and we had room for all five of us. Felt very homey. The only thing we didn’t know ahead was that the internet was an additional charge. The satellite didn’t work but Netflix saved the day. Just a suggestion: would have been nice to have 3 other kayaks so we could kayak all together, perhaps some boogie boards to float on. Really enjoyed the kayaks nonetheless. The host was helpful and friendly. Would definitely come again!

A relaxing getaway

What a gem! We really enjoyed the cottage, which was bigger than we expected and offered a peaceful week away. The front porch is a great place to relax and there’s a bonus board to close the porch and keep any pets in. Looking forward to returning!
