In Town Ocean View Condo-Walk to the Beach, Shops, Restaurants and Bars!
This top floor condo is spacious with open beam ceilings and an ocean view. It is located in the center of Kailua Kona. You can walk to the pier, to restaurants, shopping, even the bank and the grocery store are nearby. The condo has two bedrooms with California King beds, and two full bathrooms. There is also a single pull out bed in the living room, as well as a queen pull out. You can cook your meals in the full kitchen, and eat on the sunny lanai looking at the ocean. Fast wifi, in unit washer and dryer, a free parking stall, beach equipment, and air conditioning are included as well.
This unit is tucked back off the main street, so it is also quiet. Save the money and the hassle on the rental car and parking, and stay in this convenient location. However, if you do have a car a free parking stall is included, and you can walk to most restaurants and shops on Alii drive without having to pay the parking fees.
Please note, it is on the third floor, no elevator and only stairs. Also, please don't rent a giant vehicle. The parking stall is a covered normal size stall, but there is a wall on one side. You may have to back out of the stall for your guests to easily get in and out of the vehicle.

The stay was clean, modern and well maintained and exactly as described. We had everything we needed and additionally there were some beach supplies which we did not use, but was a good to have in the room! Enjoyed the stay.
We were very happy with the condo. The location is excellent, easy walk to town, beaches and stores. Erika was very helpful and the communication was strong.
Erika’s home was a great place to stay for our visit to the big island. Erika checked in to make sure we had no issues finding and gaining access. The process was easy and detailed. We could walk to many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shopping in general. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

Very accommodating host with plenty of equipment for local activities like snorkeling and beach days. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Clear instructions too
Everything was as expected. The condo was very quiet and within walking distance of so many restaurants. The owner was responsive and very nice. My wife and I would stay here again.
The property is close to all the shops and restaurants by either driving or walking. The landlord Erika is very nice and helpful, which made me feel like she’s there for us if any needs arise. The property has everything we need which is handy. Mahalo Erika for making our stay at Big Island a great experience.

Great, safe place to stay if traveling on a budget
Just got back from a 12 night stay in Kona. I stayed in this condo and would definitely agree that the listing description is accurate, the pictures are current, and the location is awesome! The owner was easy to contact during my stay if I had any questions, and I honestly can't think of any real complaints. This place is a great choice if your on a budget, it's a safe and extremely convenient location. I can't wait to go back!

It was a pleasure having you as a guest and I look forward to next time!
we really liked the place - matches the vrbo pics and description, and was very comfortable for four of us. Both bathrooms quite nice; kitchen fully functional, allowing us to do some eating in. Only a short walk to everything on Ali'i, including the nice small beach by the Marriott. Would definitely do it again
The beds and furniture are very comfortable, the kitchen is well-equipped, the AC works great, the tap water tastes pretty good, and the grounds are lovely and well maintained. We found all the neighbors to be friendly and this place is wonderfully quiet. The pool, hot tub, lanai, washer/dryer and the car rental through turo are all bonuses and much appreciated. Everything in town is very close by, but be aware that the steep hills and flights of stairs can be strenuous. Overall we love this place and would definitely stay here again.

Lovely balcony & comfortable bedrooms. Was a bit tight for 5 adults. The parking space is tricky with a bigger car. Wish there was a French press or regular coffee maker. Keurig didn’t have a basket & being on Hawai’i, there are so many better coffee choices than Duncan Donuts. Overall, lovely place to stay and close to Kona In. Area.
Decent unit, but, I did not notice in the unit description that my 83 year old mother had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get into the unit. Unit is dated, but worked for us. It does not have a dishwasher which meant that instead of loading a dishwasher and leaving, we had to be sure to clean up each day before we left. Some of the utensils had debris on them, so, I don’t know if the owner washes everything between visitors or if they’re counting on the visitors to be sure dishes are properly cleaned. I am giving this stay a 5 star rating because it was a budget friendly option for our family of 5 and was perfectly adequate for all our needs and the host was very responsive and lovely to deal with. If you read the description and reviews properly you will discover all there is to know about the property. However here is a summary From my perspective. Positives:Great Kona location with an easy walk to shops and town.Nice Clean condo. We felt completely safe the whole time. The condo is stocked with some extra items for use by guests (eg free coffee pods, but no creamer). Free car park (yes it’s small but it works fine).Budget friendly- great value for moneySome of the negatives, simply for others to consider - we didn’t mind about any of these and we enjoyed our stay, but for full transparency, I just wanted to point a few things out so that if any of these are deal breakers for anyone they know up front. If they are, then increase your budget and search again.no dishwasher.3rd floor with no liftno ability to block out light - meaning you can’t sleep in - except for the one front room.quite hot as it is a top floor condo. There was 2 air conditioning units which definitely helped a lot, but as it is such a large open living area it didn’t cool the condo until well into the night (we stayed in winter). The pull out sofa beds are not that comfortable- an extra topper mattress for both would be a great addition. Not really any option to eat inside - eat on lanai

Not my favorite VRBO rental
In case you missed it, this condo has no dishwasher. Plan to wash everything down before using it. Some of the pans were a bit greasy or sticky to the touch. We hand washed everything before using it.
This condo is on the third floor. There are two flights of stairs plus a few steps leading up to the building. Getting up those stairs with our luggage was not the easiest task.
The pictures show a beautiful open space with a loft. Those pictures are accurate. However, there weren't window coverings on the loft windows. So, we were awake every morning with the sun...about 5:45 a.m. If you, like me, need a reasonable dark space to sleep, bring or plan to purchase eye coverings.
The pictures depict the furniture in the unit. The furniture depicted is accurate. However, the patio chairs are very tough to sit on for an extended period. I needed to work remotely several hours a day for my job and this is the only space that made sense to work on. I had to go to Walmart and buy cushions for the patio chairs because my back started to bother me after a couple of days. If you will need to work remotely from this unit , consider purchasing something for additional comfort.
There are bugs. We found bugs in the kitchen and in the downstairs bathroom. We contacted Erika and she thinks they come up through the drains. There was no extermination while we were there for three weeks. Family members staying in condo complex across the street were provided with a monthly exterminator visit schedule. In this unit, fighting the bugs will be your responsibility but Erika will let you know what to do if you ask.
The only table for dining is outside on the patio. No matter how often I cleaned that table, there were still small bugs crawling around on it while we were eating. I'd recommend planning to eat at the kitchen counter where there are two bar stools. If you intend to use the table, you'll need to plan to buy a tablecloth that you wash after each meal or eat with the bugs.
In order to minimize the bugs, we took the trash out each day. As I mentioned above, this is a third story condo and there is no elevator. You'll need to bring your trash out to a dumpster across from the building in the parking lot.
Kona has a homeless problem that is evident in the neighborhood around the building. While we never felt unsafe, the homeless are hard to miss in this neighborhood.
Erika was responsive and very helpful whenever I contacted her.

Yes, my condo is on the third floor, with no elevator. I clearly state this in the listing because I want guests that can handle walking up stairs. Also, there is no dishwasher, just like it says in the listing. You mentioned to me that the first two weeks you were here, you didn't see any bugs. And then it was the third week when you saw a few in the kitchen and a few ants on the lanai table. I do have the unit on a monthly plan with the bug guys. I don't mean to be dismissive, but it is the tropics and there are bugs occasionally. A lot of it depends on how clean the guest keeps food scraps and the kitchen during the stay. Yes, the upstairs bedroom in the loft gets sun in the morning through the upper windows. The downstairs bedroom has shades and curtains on all of the windows. My hope in offering my home as a vacation rental is that guests come and get out and explore our beautiful island.
Hostile host told me to stay somewhere else when I inquired alternative parking options of my car
Stay away from this worn out unsafe place! Worst vacation rental experience ever!
I couldn't find the place as building and doors were not clearly marked and the check-in instruction was confusing.
There was NO mention in the ad that there is NO elevator!
Parking:
The designate parking spot was so narrow and short for my car rental (a 4WD Jeep wrangler). I could barely get out of the car after I parked as the is a door right in front of the parking space. When I asked the host if there are other parking spots or whether I get a parking permit. She just lectured me that parking is 'free and I should just go stay somewhere else, knowing that I will not get a refund. She doesn't care since she was already paid, and put the word 'host' in 'hostile'!! Hypocritically, in the bulletin board, the host said she can help arrange for additional parking if we have more than one car when all I needed was one.
Condition of the condo:
Since the unit is on the 3rd floor, it felt like an oven when we got in. I asked the host on how to operate the AC and instead of giving me the instructions, she just said it is nice and cool in the evening. The place was dusty (behind the TV, window ledges etc.) and the toilet bowl on the hallway had 'residues' on it and there wasn't even a toilet brush in sight. The fan only turned on periodically. The fridge was full of leftover sauces with unknown expiration dates and most of the spices and 'leftovers' are very cold and clumpy. I had to stop my son from opening a package of leftover oatmeal as it was a complete brick. There was no fan in the upstairs bathroom and it was so hard to turn on the shower. The toaster oven was very dirty and burnt.
Passive aggressive harassing reminders everywhere including the front door to remind me how 'incredibly expensive' electricity is in Hawaii. There were additional reminders on how the sink can clog easily, and that it is our job to put the lanai on to keep her condo cooler while blocking all the views. Yet, we must roll them back up when it is windy. Not my job to maximize her profit margins as I PAID!
This is NOT a resort: The pool is dirty & cold, and the spa is superhot with broken jet. There was no mention in vrbo that pool is closed to children after 6 pm. Lots of chain smokers and stray cats on the property. Very unsafe area with tons of drifters across the street & parking lot, and drunk people on the street on the side of the condo.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

I am sorry you feel the need to attack me and say untrue things about my condo. I think my track record shows, on VRBO I have over 200 reviews and yours is the only one like this. Three different neighbors, as well as the building manager have all reached out to me to mention how difficult it was to have you on property, one going as far as to say that they were going to call the cops because of all of the yelling. Obviously you have a lot more issues, and I hope you can get the help you need.
Erika was wonderful to work with! We had a possible flight cancellation and Erika was willing to wait until we got on our flight before taking another reservation in case we needed a place to stay!

About the host
Hosted by Erika Gagnon
My husband and I moved to the islands seeking the surf and the hawaiian lifestyle. We met and married here and now have two young children. Kona is a great place to be, nice people, sun, sand and surf, it can't be beat!
Why they chose this property
Kailua Bay Resort is in the ideal location. It's quiet, yet at the same time it is centrally located so you don't need a car, all the activities are just steps away. If you want to go out and have cocktails, you don't have to worry about driving, just walk home. The pier and the beach are a short walk, as well as the grocery store and even the post office is right there.
