This cabin is easily accessible & conveniently located to both Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge (using the bypass). Communication w the home owner was great. We also got to see several bears!
Beautiful place to stay for the Thanksgiving holiday! The whole family has a great time and there was a lot of things to do and see. The hot tub was great - clean, working and perfect on a cold night. The pool table brought out the competitive side of the family :)
There was plenty of space for the family to have quiet time for themselves. Would definitely recommend others to stay in this cute and cozy cabin! The Christmas decorations were an added bonus!
We enjoyed this chalet on Spring Break. The location is perfect. Just a short drive to downtown Gatlinburg and entrance to the Mountains. The chalet was beautiful and perfect for our family of 5. Everyone had their own room, which was perfect! Everything there that you could possibly need. The hot tub and pool table was an added bonus! If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the beds are very hard and
We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin. We cooked most all meals in the fully equipped kitchen. The washer/dryer was a helpful perk so we are going home with clean clothes. Our family utilized the hot tub and the pool table as well. We saw bears at least 15 times during our three night stay. They were not aggressive but we kept our distance and just watched from the deck. One bear did try getting in our vehicle but doors were locked and everything was safe. We would highly recommend this cabin for families in the future.
The cabin was clean and spacious and beautiful. There a high chair there for baby, wished there wouldve been a pack n play but it was fine bc hs ealways sleeps with me anyways... i expected 2 tubs but there was only 1. But it was totally fine . Worked out great. We really enjoyed our vacation.
Quiet Location close to Gatlinburg, needs some work
The location was great, only a few minutes up the mountain from downtown Gatlinburg. We loved that we would see at least 1 bear a day taking a stroll through the neighborhood, but make sure you LOCK your vehicles. We had one that was trying to open my SUV doors, luckily it was locked!! The kitchen had everything we needed, and there was plenty of space for my family to spread out throughout the cabin itself. Beds were firm but comfortable. We enjoyed using the wrap around upper deck, the swing was very dirty and needs a good cleaning or replaced. The cabin itself wasn't as clean as I had expected, definitely needs some work, updating and a good deep clean throughout. The basement smelled musty and we needed to run the dehumidifier. Basement bathroom toilet leaks & shower curtain isn't long enough so easy for water to splash out on the floor. Master bedroom electric outlets were very loose and wouldn't hold my iphone charger, so I had to push the nightstand up against it to "hold" it in place to work. The bathroom floor was very dirty especially along the baseboards. The AC stopped working but the owner was easy to contact and had a repair man come check it out within 48 hrs. Overall we had a great family vacation in the smokies, just a little disappointed in the cabin.
We loved our vacation! The cabin was perfect for us and our three teenagers. The cabin is three floors with the bottom floor having its own living room with pool table and fireplace. It was well stocked and extremely clean. We saw bears every morning from our deck and enjoyed privacy but still being so close to Gatlinburg. The deck probably should be replaced soon and there were a couple minor repairs that needed to be made but nothing that affected our stay at all. The washer and dryer was a nice surprise as well! Very pleased with the cabin and experience. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a wonderful stay with 4 adults and 1 child, and even hosted 2 more adults and a child for meals—yet never felt crowded. The layout, with two separate living spaces on different floors, makes the cabin feel much larger than expected. The photos don’t do it justice—the cabin looks even better in person. The owners were great communicators, and the beds were very comfortable. Note that the upstairs runs warmer than the downstairs in summer, and only a few trash bags and dishwasher pods are provided, so bring extras if staying a while. The property is clean, family-friendly, and tucked into a peaceful wooded setting. We saw several bears, including one walking right by the deck while we were in the hot tub—so definitely follow bear safety guidelines! This is a true mountain cabin, not a resort. Come with that mindset and you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway. Also, Ski Mountain Pizza was excellent, and the nearby Chalet Market had everything we needed in a pinch.
The house was nice, clean, and the communication with the owners was EXCELLENT. I loved the location and that you could get to Gatlinburg more than one way to help avoid traffic or jump on the bypass to go elsewhere. Also enjoyed the quiet neighborhood. My only low point was that the AC for the top floors couldn't handle the heat so the house ran very warm (78 during day and maybe 75 at night). The bottom floor was excellent though and stayed cool the whole time.
Cabin and location was great. Very comfortable. Fyi, a bear tried to get in the front door and the back door. It was a little scary. My daughter and family were 3 doors down at abother cabin. Lots of bears. A neighbor had their car window broke and had 2 bears inside the car. Just fyi. Beds were very comfy. Areas of improvements....maybe a future deck roof. The deck furniture was too dirty to sit in as well as the hot tub. We also had lots of ants in the kitchen counter and sink. I found raid under the sink which saved the sirltuation. All in all, i would rent out the cabin again. Thank you.
It was a nice place. A little dated but charming. I like to cook and the kitchen was small and missing somethings like measuring spoons but adequate for dishes and cups and stuff like that. The owner was very receptive and responsive when contacted. Gave very detailed instructions for do's and don'ts which is helpful when your not use to the area. The cleaning people need to clean a little better our sheets were dirty and I found socks from a previous renter behind a dresser when plugging in a charger. If you want secluded this is your place wi-fi is spotty but to be expected in that area. Overall a great stay, loads of stuff to do in the area and beautiful parks. We spent one day at Cades cove - no GPS at all (kinda scary) but oh, was it beautiful and the river was super clean.
Great little Cabin, we loved sitting in front of the fire at night and having the second living space for the kids. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a Smoky Mountain vacation.
Johnny is an amazing host. The chalet is quaint, but accommodating. The price is right, and allowed us to experience all that Gatlinburg has to offer without breaking the bank. This was most likely our last trip with our mother, who absolutely adores the Smokey Mountains, she was in tears with gratitude by the end of the trip. We are not overflowing with money for vacation, so finding the chalet, reasonably priced and comfortable allowed us to focus on being together without the stress of a financial burden.
Cabin is cozy and enough room for the seven of us. We were here for the Christmas week and the decorations were appreciated. Nice having a Christmas tree.We used the hot tub almost every day. We did see one bear in the road one day. The cabin needs some updates and a good clean ,but overall we enjoyed it. Room for 4 vehicles, two being trucks. Easy to find with the directions from owner.Room for for

Family Vacay in the Smokies
Needs some up keep. Railing is weak around the outside deck. The tin on the roof is exposed and is at head level for young children that could cause major injuries. Needed some cleaning under the furniture and if you have a large group of people, more towels and wash clothes are needed. We had to wash towels .We had a group of 7.
There was plenty of space for my family of 7. My father even joined us for the last few days of the trip. The hot tub was a favorite. We had everything we need to enjoy our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Johnny Duke
My wife and I are both educators. We bought Bear Haven primarily as a retreat to share with our sons. I grew up going to the Smoky Mountains on a semi-regular basis. Some of my favorite childhood memories are fall visits to see the leaves and nights walking the strip in Gatlinburg.
Why they chose this property
We love the location since my sons and I hike and fly-fish in the mountains, while my wife and daughter-in-law have access to unlimited shopping and bargain hunting in the area.
What makes this property unique
We love the tongue and groove paneling and the stone fireplaces. The deck is a nice place to relax under the shade of trees in the summer. While we have neighbors within sight, this is in an older section of Ski Mountains where the cabins are more spaced out.
