Located on the west and east sides of a well-maintained condominium, our rental offers scenic views of the canal and landscaped backyard. We take very good care of the property, seeking to give our guests the best of both a home and a hotel. Either on the unit’s east or west decks, the pristine beaches, or by the pool, there is plenty of space to enjoy the sun in an area surrounded by nature.
Irida III is based on a theme. In recognition of the very long and storied history of indigenous culture on the Outer Banks, we created three rooms of photography – in effect three galleries – that tell a story of nature as presented to its denizens. As people have known for many centuries, part of the magic of the Outer Banks is its profound and diverse ecology that is both healing and inspiring. It is our pleasure to attempt to share a modern interpretation of what various cultures have experienced for easily a millennium.
Grocery shopping and numerous restaurants are all within a five-minute drive, and Ocean Air Sports – a leading watersports center on the outer banks – is next door. This area is one of the most popular kiteboarding and windsurfing locations on the entire east coast, and it is equally known for its fishing. A beautiful canal gives access to Pamlico Sound, or public access to the ocean beach is only a ten-minute walk away. Given the Outer Banks, concentration of federal and state protected lands, there is ample opportunity for nature-based recreation, and its history is legendary.
Our unit is one level and is located on the top floor, offering some spectacular views of the area. The unit has a full kitchen, and two full bathrooms. Cable television and internet are included, as well as access to the pool. A ground level storage unit is included, and is suitable for storing windsurfing, surfing, paddle boards, kiteboarding equipment. The unit can hold two bicycles.
We provide all linens, towels, and products needed for your vacation, and are honored to bring our guests as healthy a vacation experience as possible.

Very clean and well appointed property. The condo building is mostly owner-occupied and the residents were so friendly and welcoming! Beautiful views of the sound. Walk to the oceanfront/beach is easy, although you do have to cross NC 12. Location is convenient for shopping and restaurants. Would definitely stay again.
This condo is exactly as advertised. It was clean, comfortable and a great size for a weekend adventure for a small group.
It has beautiful views of the sound and is located in the perfect spot for a relaxing and quiet getaway in OBX.
Would stay here again!
we had a great time in your condo. the pool was the best. it was my grandson’s favorite part. the unit was spotless and in a great location. enjoyed the view of the sound. would stay here again
We loved this spot. We could walk to the beach and several local restaurants. The view from the balcony is exquisite. There are 4 flights of stairs so i was able to burn off the extra cocktail at dinner.
The property was perfect. Location was convenient with just a short walk to the beach and the kids loved the pool. We really enjoyed the balcony and condo had plenty of space for our family of 4. Being third floor-it was a lot of stairs, but we knew that from other reviews and were prepared, so we didn’t mind. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

Nice place
We had a good time. The walk to the beach was a little longer than I thought and we couldn’t find a way to the sound side without driving. Beautiful sunsets though.
Even for Labor Day weekend, the area was not crowded and almost felt like we was on a secluded island. The condo was very spacious and comfortable. All we had to provide was our personal items and our food. Beautiful view of the sound from the balcony in the morning while we enjoyed our coffee.
We rented this place for our vacation in the Outer Banks. It was our 2 1/2 year old’s first trip to the beach, and we were looking for a place that was easy access to the beach, but also fairly secluded. This place fit the bill perfectly. We loved Avon. The condo was perfectly suited for our needs. There was a pool on the property, and public beach access across the street. The views of the sound from the balcony were awesome. We will definitely be back if they have us!

Thank you, Erica! You are welcome back any time! ~Marcia
Nice and clean, good location. However, one drawback..
All was great, clean condo, nice view of the bay and a short 5-minute walk to the beach. However, this condo is listed as having a washer/dryer. If you look at details, you see it's a shared washer/dryer in a common room. No big deal but it should be made more obvious on the VRBO listing.
The unit was nice and very clean as described. However, the owners did inform us we could not adjust the thermostat due to energy conservation. The unit was very warm, 78 was the normal temperature but at the local businesses the temperature was much cooler. Two nights it was so warm my child became sick. Also bring extra towels and wash cloths we only had 4 of each for 3 people the entire week. Had to go out and buy more.
Very nice condo, comfortable and clean. The stairs not a problem for us but be aware it is the top floor. Property owners alerted us to some possible flooding since we were there during tropical storm Ophelia, which did happen but was not a problem as we followed their directions for where to park. We choose the place for the location and proximity to the windsurfing location. This is right where OBX-Wind is held and right next to Ocean Air shop.
Windsurfer perspective on location - while it would be nice to have been up front in the large homes we were only two people so there was no point in getting a big place and this suited our needs. We met the renter of one of the homes up front and she was more than happy to have us launch from the grassy backyard. I imagined this would be the case and so if you’re coming to sail/kite I’m sure most people would do the same. Otherwise Ocean Air doesn’t mind if you launch from their area but then it’s a bit of a walk in the water to the wind line. We were impressed with the changing water level during the storm that started as a direct east wind. Once it changed to south it was a better direction to sail, so S,SW,N, or NW would probably be the best wind directions here.
Would gladly rent again next windy weekend :)
Great condo with amazing views. The room was plenty for me and my wife. The pool was great along with the dock out behind the condo. Highly recommend staying
Perfect beach getaway for family of 4. Clean, modern. Beautiful view from back deck. Storage space for beach equipment was an added bonus. Only drawback was 3 flights of stairs to get into the condo.
We had a lovely time and the owners have mastered the art of customer service.

Awesome View
The layout and interior decor is well done, the furniture is new and comfortable. Kitchen is set up nicely. The deck is private and has a lovely view of the properties dock and peninsula and bay. It is a 4 story walk up so if stairs are not your thing you may want to reconsider, However, the view is more spectacular from here.
Everything was very clean and it was a beautiful spot.

About the host
Hosted by Tedrowe Bonner and Marcia Amidon
Tedrowe Bonner is trained as a sociologist and works globally in the field of regenerative development. He, and his work colleague Marcia Amidon, are currently working in Ukraine and in different parts of the United States. Their work ranges from land-use development through permaculture to consulting with governments on developing sustainable master plans.
Marcia is one of North America’s leading children authors and editors in non-fiction, as well as an accomplished pianist. She works with Tedrowe extensively on writing projects as well as project development for their work in regenerative development.
Tedrowe has been an avid sailor for many years and had a successful racing career. Like any dedicated sailor, he sneaks away for a session of windsurfing or kiting whenever he can; if you see him traveling with a long suitcase, it is probably is sailing gear. Marcia has decided to join this crazy journey, and has experienced the power of water in ways she never thought she would.
Why they chose this property
The Outer Banks carries a long and storied anthropological and ecological legacy that perhaps few places in America can claim. The oldest European artifacts in North America were found in the Outer Banks, and a thriving civilization of indigenous people lived very successfully for hundreds of years prior to Europeans’ arrival. The Outer Banks remains a vital link in the “Atlantic Flyway” for migratory birds, which speaks to its historical importance of biodiversity. For centuries these barrier islands have served as a critical haven for humans and wildlife.
Like native ancestors who arrived here from mainland tribes, we see this as an important place to vacation. In our modern interpretation, we have come here for years to windsurf and kiteboard, but really many threads remain of what transpired centuries ago. Ultimately, it is the nature and the people that make time here so compelling.
The properties we have selected allow us to blend community and activity as this part of Avon has developed into a hub for water sports enthusiasts. Moreover, we are striving to make vacations convenient, and it is viable to have a great time without ever needing to get in the car. Our rentals strike a great balance by being close to everything that makes a vacation worthwhile, perhaps not so differently than people who lived here a long time ago.
What makes this property unique
Most simply, our approach is to offer many of a hotel’s conveniences with all the benefits of being in a home. But, in reality our mission is far more extensive. The core purpose of our company is to help regions around the world create a path towards a sustainable future, where all human activity generates comprehensive health for all life on this planet. How we live – our homes – is an extremely important piece of this future, and we take it very seriously.
Our units reflect this work the best they can. We have installed some of the most advanced fans and climate control technology to improve indoor air quality and comfort. We have spent numerous working days researching soaps, cleaning products, detergents, and paper products that are good for the environment and for us. We have taken numerous energy and water efficiency measures that actually will improve our guests’ stay.
We hope that while sitting on the balcony with a cold drink watching sunsets and sailors, you will appreciate our efforts. This is an evolving project, and we appreciate your ideas and feedback.
