It is our family's new favorite place to be at the cabin! We have also added a second bathroom to the upstairs bedroom. It has a double vanity overlooking the gorgeous mountains, a lovely clawfoot tub right next to large windows with a view straight out into nature, and heated floors. The upstairs bedroom now has a comfy queen bed, desk, laundry and a new closet.
Fine dining, boutique/convenience shopping, golf, tennis, stream/lake fishing, hiking, rafting, fitness facilities, and incredible waterfalls are all within eight miles of the cabin. Sapphire Heaven ranks high on the luxury scale and boasts a spectacular, panoramic, long distance, mountain sunrise view. Enjoy the veranda copper soaking tub with a cast iron fireplace nearby, the indoor or private outdoor shower, a premium sound system, the high end kitchen appliances, a wide screen LCD television, the audiophile DVD/CD player, the outdoor gas grill/rotisserie, the granite boulder, view's edge fire pit patio, wireless high speed internet, Tesla supercharger , washer/dryer, and much more. Feel safe with the Nu-Calgon iWave whole home air purifier and cleaner which produces ions to reduce pathogens, viruses, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air. Amazing views from this cabin- very much enjoyed our stay as it provided the remote privacy we were looking for. We did have an encounter with a large black bear, but being prepared and having things locked including the cabin prevented any major damage. The anxiety was high after this and hard to relax for a bit, but solid communication from the host and preparation/implementation from us went a long way regarding the matter.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come back to visit again soon!
Such an incredible property. The pictures do not do it justice. Conveniently located and with fantastic views, this cabin provides a unique experience that is hard to match. The cabin is such an incredible look back in time, but with modern conveniences. The soaking tub, balcony views, and the stars above were the highlights along with the hike down to the waterfall (not to be missed but be prepared for the moderate difficulty). Wild Turkeys, Deer, and Foxes were all spotted on the grounds. Just a fantastic place to experience time passing

So enjoyed our stay! We needed a long weekend to slow down and connect with nature. Sapphire Heaven is the perfect place! The reclaimed wood, cozy feel and views from the porch were over the top winners. Can’t wait to get back.

About the host
Hosted by Katy Valdes
2/1/2021 We purchased this home in December 2020 from the original owners, John and Stacy Thomas. It had been our dream to own this spectacular cabin for many years. Like you, we rented Sapphire Heaven through VRBO. It was a surprise anniversary trip, and when we arrived in early fall, we immediately fell in love…with the cabin! Over the years, we returned many times for romantic get-aways and with our children. We now have 4! Gabriella, 12, Evangeline, 10, Max, 8, and Xavier, 5. They love coming here almost as much as we do! When John put this home on the market, we knew that it was meant to be. When building the home, John put so much thought and love into the building materials and design. He built it in 2007 from 150-year-old hand hewn timbers which were salvaged from two historic barns. One of the barns was built in the mid-1800’s and stood on the Battlefield of Gettysburg prior to and during the Civil War. The other was built in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania by skilled Amish craftsmen during the mid-1840’s using beech, oak, black walnut, maple, fir and hemlock trees. The still usable timbers from these structures were pressure washed with a borax solution and loaded onto a flatbed semi-truck for delivery to Sapphire, NC. What John and his local craftsman builder were able to come up with using those timbers, is truly a work of art! It didn’t hurt that that work of art was positioned on one of the most majestic, tranquil 5-acre mountain parcels that we had ever seen! The view! We are so happy to share our beloved cabin with you! We hope that you will be able to find an opportunity to stay with us! Sincerely, Brad and Katy Valdes
Why they chose this property
Around the chic mountain village of Cashiers, North Carolina, (10 minutes from the cabin) fashionable development keeps pace with the growing demand for vacation and retirement homes. Easily understandable considering Cashiers is located in the waterfall area of the Blue Ridge Mountains, where high elevation lakes, streams, and rivers abound. Adding to the natural attractions that beckon the thousands of affluent, seasonal residents (plus a multitude of visitors) are notable golf courses, trendy shops, fine dining establishments, and tennis resorts. Asheville, home of the Biltmore Estate, is a cultural hub not to be missed, less than an hour drive away.
What makes this property unique
Do you desire the peace, quite, and solitude of being by yourself, with only the splendor of nature and your loved one(s) in the mountains, but still very close to fine dining, upscale shopping, outdoor activities, and resort amenities? We did, and it was a most difficult combination to find. Sapphire Heaven is the result of our quest to create that rare combination. As a bonus we even have a private waterfall within a short hike.
